he beloved family of Elsie Mary Mobley Templeton, 99, of Memphis, TN, formerly of Martin, TN, is saddened to announce that she was called to rest on Saturday, February 25, 2023, with her children by her side. She was born October 21, 1923, in DeKalb, Mississippi to the late Mr. Thomas Mobley and
Elsie Templeton professed Christ at She was a member of Progressive Missionary Upon moving to Memphis, TN, she became a member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Orange Mound, where she remained a faithful and dedicated member to the end.
An adoring wife for fifty years, Elsie Templeton was married to Granville Templeton Sr on January 30, 1950. Four children were born from their beautiful union. She provided support and love for her family. She and her husband, Granville, worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for their children and grandchildren. She was very proud of the great achievements earned by her children and grandchildren.
Not only a devoted wife and mother, Elsie was also dedicated at her place of work. As a young woman, she was employed at The University of Tennessee at Martin, where she worked for more than 33 years. Her work was so impactful that she received numerous awards and recognition for her exemplary service. Elsie was a sweet, energetic, and passionate person.
Elsie Templeton was a phenomenal woman of God. Her parents, Thomas Mobley and Beatrice Shields, brother, Lincoln Shields, husband, Granville Templeton Sr, son, David Templeton, and son in-law, Harvey Smith Jr proceeded her in death. Her legacy and presence will be greatly missed. She leaves many to cherish her memory: one daughter, Opal Faye Smith of Memphis, TN; two sons, Granville (Thyrais) Templeton Jr of Normal, Il; and Lindburg (Rosemary) Templeton of Martin, TN; nine grandchildren: Harvey (April) Smith, III, Rachelle Harris, and Timothy Smith of Memphis, TN; Granville Templeton III of Ellicott City, MD; Jasmine Templeton of Rosedale, MD; Christopher (Mary) Templeton of Richmond, VA; Deborah Lynn Lilly of Munford, TN; Rakaya (Naylen) Thompson of Fort Wayne, IN; and Rodney Henry of Fort Wayne, IN. nineteen great-grandchildren: Michelle, Hannah, Ethan, Tristan, Eden, Granville IV, Grant, Nathanial (Templeton), Kayla, Leah, Maxwell, Shaynala, Nakaya, Naylen, Nick, Nia, Noah, Nathaniel (Thompson), and Kennadi.
