Our Mom Was Different Our mom Flora was different; she was special Unique in a thousand ways, Flora was giving she was loving And we will miss her all our days. Mom knew sorrows in a great measure But neither could defeat her Nothing stopped her faith. And when she heard death coming Flora didn’t cover in fear Instead, she called out boldly My Lord come, I’m over here. And so instead of mourning As we remember her this hour We really should be celebrating The blooming of a flower. Because you see mom was different My mom was special loving she was Unique in a thousand ways She was giving And we will miss mom all our days

Order of Celebration

Reflections of Life Flora Mae Jones was born September 3, 1932, to the late George Kimbrough and Julia B. Dortch Jones in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Flora Jones professed her life to Christ at an early age at Mt. Pleasant Church in Mt. Pleasant, Mississippi. She later joined, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, in Memphis, Tennessee under the leadership of Dr. S.H. Herring where she served faithfully as an Usher. She later changed membership and joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee until her health failed where Rev. James E. Delaney was her Pastor. Flora was previously married to Willie Richardson and to this union three children were born Margaret, Willie, and Darlene. Willie preceded her in death. Flora was later united in Holy Matrimony in 1971 to Lucious Blaine Jones. Flora was a God-fearing woman who truly loved the Lord. Flora made sure you had a church home or was attending Sunday school. Flora and her husband Lucious would ensure that their children and other children from the community were attending church or had a church home- even if they had to make multiple trips to the church to get them there. Flora lived a full and happy life. You would always see a smile upon her face. She was a joy to her family, a delight to her friends and a source of inspiration to each person she touched. She spoke with wisdom and truth even at times others were silent. Flora started her own business called, Jones Upholstery over 40 years ago. She designed and restored many unique pieces of furniture to their original condition. Her business was in the heart of the community in which she lived for decades. Flora made her transition from her earthly home to her heavenly home, September 24, 2021. Flora is preceded in death by her husband Lucious Blaine Jones; brothers Booker, Clifford, and Bobby Jones; sister Bertha Ann Davis, son Willie Richardson Jr.; granddaughter Latoya Richardson, stepdaughter Shirley Newson and stepson James Page. Flora is survived by her daughters Margaret Barnes and Darlene Richardson of Memphis, Tennessee, stepdaughters Clarice Newson and Joyce Jones of Memphis, Tennessee, Debra Jackson, Olive Branch, Mississippi and stepson Lucious Jones, Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee. She leaves behind her brother Curtis and wife Emma Jones of Byhalia, Mississippi; 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-greatgrandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Grandma Flora

Each wrinkle tells a story about the long life you lived Every time I heard your voice, my body got still I listened each time you spoke to me, even if you repeated it word for word. With each sound that exited your mouth, I paid attention to the verbs Patience is what you have shown me ever since I was a small child I would continue to wait on you, grandma, even if I had to walk for miles When you began to leave this earthly realm, it brought sadness from the start I kindly whispered in your ear, “I would be fine and at peace within my heart.” It was hard to hold back the tears as you prepared to depart The beauty of your skin was and still is a perfect piece of art I will continue your legacy by not tarnishing your name The seeds that were planted are forever in your heart and soon to be framed You see, “Flora” is the Goddess of plants and flowers I continuously gave them to you as you lived, even up to your final birthday hour Throughout your last days, I continued to hold your hand I will miss you, Grandma as you enter the Promised Land Kina Snyder
