Life’s Brief Reflections
Mr.Jimmie Lee Hodge passed away on September 22, 2023. He was born in Saulsberry, Tennessee, on August 3, 1948, to the late Dave Hodge, Sr. and Grace Joy Hodge. He was the eighth of ten children. He was the baby boy. His siblings treated him as such.
Jimmie was named after his uncle. He was known as the “brains” of his siblings. That’s because, as a little boy, he read all the time.
The family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in January 1951, settling in the Orange Mound Neighborhood. He was raised in a close family with love. No matter when a family member needed something, he was there. Also, for friends, all you had to do was call. He had a quiet spirit.
Jimmie was a proud Melrose High School graduate, class of 1967. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy for four years. While in the Navy, he was baptized and accepted Christ as his savior. Returning home, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and graduated and received an associate degree in Business from Owen College, retiring from Tension Envelope. He loved to travel, golf, try new restaurants, and be with family & friends.
Jimmie was married to Carrie Jefferson Hodge in 1975. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his family and friends who loved him. His parents and siblings, Will T. Mason, Dave Hodge, Jr., Levone (Boose) Hodge, Callie H. Clark, Elma H. Anderson, and Mayflower H. Hardaway Campbell, preceded him. His remaining family will cherish his loving memories: three siblings, Juanita H. Smith, Ruby H. Thomas, (Lonnie) and Devone (Jeff) Hodge; two brothers-in-law, Irving Anderson and Lonnie Thomas; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; three special childhood friends, Osie Batts (cousin), Herman McNeil and James Quall, Jr. (deceased).
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
