Life’s Reflections

other Jimmie Lue Johnson Boyd was born May 9, 1932, to the late Clem Johnson and Millie Hall Johnson in Senatobia, Mississippi. She was the youngest daughter of eight children. Mother Boyd attended Gravel Spring School in Senatobia, Mississippi. She was a self-taught beautician and owned her own beauty shop on Gabay Street in South Memphis for many years. At the young age of fourteen years, on September 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to Rev. Clyde Boyd, Sr. This marriage lasted for fifty years until Rev. Boyd made his transition from this earth. They were blessed with eight sons: Clyde Jr., Bobby, Clem, John, Ronald, Ray, Nilerom and Benlin. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and First Lady to Rev. Boyd as he served as Pastor of New Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Middleton, Tennessee, and again in Batesville, Mississippi. Mother Boyd professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She joined Springfield Baptist Church in Senatobia, Mississippi, under the pastorate of the late Rev. J.L. Hughley. After moving to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1959, she United with Morning View Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. J.J. Reynolds. She was a faithful member for over sixty years. She served on the Mother’s Board and Missionary Board, was a Sunday School Class #8 member, and was a former choir member. She was one of the nonagenarians (ninety-plus years of age) of Morning View Missionary Baptist Church. Mother Boyd had a sweet, sweet spirit, and she was a fabulous dresser. She was the epitome of a virtuous woman, a devoted mother with a quiet strength who raised eight sons. We thank God for allowing us to have her for fourscore and eleven years. Mother Boyd leaves to cherish her memories: six sons, Clyde Boyd Jr., Bobby Lee Boyd (Jeanetta), Clem Rogers Boyd (Joyce), Ronald Lloyd Boyd (Felicia), Ray Anthony Boyd (Yolanda) and Benlin Boyd; one daughter in law, Eula Boyd; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mabel Eggleston, Detroit, Michigan and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Clyde Boyd, Sr.; two sons, Johnny Michael Boyd and Nilerom Boyd; four brothers, RC Johnson, Bennie Johnson, Elrich Johnson, and Rufus Johnson; three sisters, Mae Berta Johnson, Rosie Mae Johnson, and Della Johnson McGhee. We Loved You, but God Loved you Best! You will forever be in our hearts, Mother!
