The day I’ve prepared you for is here, don’t fear, it was just my turn Because I told you from the dirt we came so to the dirt we must return I leave you my words, love, laughs and good teachings God Loves Everyone!! put that in your safe keepings I stood before you week after week telling you God’s word I spoke loud without a microphone, so I know y’all heard Always remember to stand so close together that one can’t fall for another And if you got a helping hand lend it to your sister or your brother So if you believed in what I told you, we’ll see each other again In the land of milk and honey, because this was not the end I may have stepped out of life’s backdoor, but never out of your heart I’ll always be with you; I made sure I perfected that part So continue to spread God’s words and speak of your faith I’m fine because I know who was waiting for me at the Gates HELLO LIGHTS!!!

“The Painting Preacher”

John A. Harris was born on September 5, 1952, in

Germantown, Tennessee, to the late Bertha M. Cooper Harris and Walker Lee Harris, Sr. John confessed his beliefs in Christ at an early age at the Taylor Chapel CME Church in Germantown, Tennessee, under the late Rev. L.C. Moore.

He attended Neshoba Elementary, Geeter Jr. High School and Whitehaven High. Later, he became a member, deacon, and Associate Minister at New Friendship M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Issac A. Wright.

John followed God’s calling and became the Pastor of Old Nonconnah M.B. Church in 1996, where he remained Pastor and Spiritual Leader of many for 23 years. John was the Lead Singer of the Legendary Gospel Quartet “The Dixie Harmonizers” and owner of 5J Painting & Co., producing exquisite work for over 30 yrs. John was also an Inductee into the Memphis Bowlers Association Hall Of Fame in 2012. John was a loving, hard-working family man of many skills and talents; he was a pool shark, a craftsman, painter, songwriter, and outdoorsman. He departed this life on November 21, 2019, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Proceeding him in death where his parents, Bertha M. Cooper and Walker Lee Harris, Sr., his loving wife Doris P. Harris, one sister, Emma Williams, and five of his brothers Johnny, Ricky, Walker Jr., O.B. and Major Harris.

He leaves to cherish his lessons and memories his two sons, Jarvis (Cassandra) & Jeremy (Erica) Harris, three grandchildren Joshua Harris, Madison Harris, and Jeremy Jr., three sisters, Bertha (Billy) Marshall, Geraldine Moore, and Sarah Powell, two brothers Calvin (Liz) Harris and Jerry (Stephanie) Harris and a whole bunch of nieces, nephews, relatives, members and friends forever.

And last but not least Ms. Linda.
