Mr. Leon “Bubba” Ashurst, a beloved resident of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024. He was born on September 15, 1933, to the loving parents Creed Ashurst and Rosa Taylor Clarence.
Leon lived a vibrant life, always on his own terms. He successfully graduated from Booker T. Washington in Memphis, Tennessee, where he made lasting friendships and cherished memories. In his leisure time, he found great joy in watching TV, and in his younger days, he excelled as a skilled swimmer.
Having served his country with honor and distinction, Leon was honorably discharged from both the Air Force and the Navy, leaving behind a commendable legacy of service. After retiring from the United States Postal Service, where he dedicated his career as a Postal Worker, Leon embraced the joys of a well-deserved respite.
While we mourn the loss of his beloved son, Leon Ashurst, we find solace in the cherished memories he leaves behind. Leon is survived by his devoted wife, Hazel P. Ashurst, his loving son Jay Ashurst, stepsons Eddie Gordon, Jr. and Tony Gordon, as well as a caring daughter-in-law, Monique Ashurst. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of relatives, neighbors, and friends whose lives he touched with his warmth and kindness.
In honor of Leon’s life and the impact he had on those around him, we gather to remember him with fondness and gratitude. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
