Reflections of the Life Journey of
Louie (aka Lewis and Stokey) Everett Jones My journey began September 28, 1953 when I was born as the second child of Louie Quinton Jones and Annie Grace Barry-Jones. My journey lasted 63 years and ended suddenly January 8, 2017. Psalms 37:23 NLT says “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” My life was a true testament to the scripture. I was raised by my great aunt “Que” whom I affectionately called “momma”. As a Christian woman, she instilled in me the love of Christ. As a result, being an active participant in church was always a priority for me. I affirmed my belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. O.C. Collins, Sr. at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church where I remained a member for 48 years. During my years at Progressive, I was a very active member. My ministries included my Sunday school class, the Men’s choir, the Crusaders and with gratitude, I served as the Assistant Charge Usher of the #2 Usher’s Ministry. Momma was a very caring and determined woman when it came to her family and even more so when it came to me. You see, as an elementary student, I was diagnosed as having a mild intellectual disability. Because of my disability, momma was concerned that I would not be able to lead a productive life and that I would always need to have someone take care of me. I’m sure that you’ve heard the saying ‘it takes a village to raise a child’, well, I was a true testament to that saying. Because momma set out to create a village for me, I became a productive man, a productive citizen, a productive employee and a productive man of God. As a productive man, I worked at various jobs that ranged from landscaping, apartment grounds man, and as a janitor at a day care. My work at the daycare was my favorite because I had the opportunity to be around children and babies whom I loved as though they were my nieces and nephews. As a productive man of God, I loved the Lord, attended church regularly and was an active participant in various groups and organizations. Important parts of my village included my family, the old Arlington Developmental and Rehabilitation Center, Shelby Occupational Services (SOS) and Shelby Residential Vocational Services (SRVS). I was with SRVS for the last 24 years of my life as a resident of Rutland. Before the end of my journey, I was preceded in death by both of my parents, Aunt Que (momma), and my sister, Betty Jones-Huntley. I leave to cherish my memory, my very dear and special friend, Venita Faye Tyson; my sisters, Gracie Anderson (James, Sr.) of Memphis, TN, and Barbara Jones-Pitts (Michael) of Atlanta, GA., My nieces; Sheryl Boyd (Donovan and Houston and Ciara ), Esteria Stevison (Mark, (Brandon and Jordan)), Stephanie Anderson, Kristen Pitts, my nephew; James Anderson, Jr. (Tracy, (Journee)), my two cousins who were like my brothers; Clarence Mosley and Bobby Jones, and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

Life is Eternal Life is eternal, the Good Lord said; So, do not think of your loved one as dead. For death is only a stepping stone To a beautiful life we have never known, A place where God promised man He would be Eternally happy and safe and free, A wonderful land where we live anew When our journey on earth is over and through. So, trust in God and doubt Him never; For all who love Him live forever, And while we cannot understand, Just let the Savior take your hand. For when death’s angel comes to call, “God is so great and we’re so small” And there is nothing you need fear; For faith in God makes all things clear. Psalms 25:13
