Tribute to Momma Growing up, it was just you and I. I felt so loved and cared for. You made sure I didn’t grow up alone as an only child. You shared me with my cousins year after year.

Thank you, Mom. You also made sure during the summer breaks, I spent time with my dad and his family. You spoiled and shared me at the same time.

The world became a better place when a unique angelic and joyful spirit entered it. On Monday, March 30, 1936, the late Curtis and Trellie Tate Johnson gave birth to Margie J. Bowen in Columbus, Mississippi.

Margie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal savior at an early age.

In 1953 at the age of seventeen, Margie, a country girl of Columbus, Mississippi, gave birth to a healthy baby boy that she named Bennie.

He was her pride and joy. Margie shortly moved to Memphis to settle in Orange Mound with her husband and son and joined the New Era Baptist Church family at 797 Laurel St., where she formerly served as an usher.

Her faith grew in Christ.

With faith, all things are possible.

Later in life, as Margie enhanced her education, she attended technical school at Messick. A significant moment for Bennie, for mother & son were in school together. She might not had a “formal education” but she had “Mother’s Wit.” Margie was very crafty, some of her hobbies included the love of animals, baking, cooking, gardening, and, most definitely, shopping. She had a love for people, family, and friends.

She had a genuine heart of gold; she would give the shirt off of her back to help someone in need. Her love never ended. Margie opened her home by embracing hospitality to all of her guests. No one would leave her house without a token of love and a more fervent heart. A beautiful jewel she was for humankind. She exhibited love everywhere she went.

On Friday, December 20, 2019, at 6:21am, Margie J. Bowen, at the age of 83, completed her earthly mission. She answered her call and joined the heavenly host.

Margie was preceded in death by two sisters; Johnnie B. Johnson Taylor and Sylvia Johnson Lawson, three brothers; J. C. Johnson, Preston Johnson, and Brier Johnson.

Her loving memories, joyous smile, and compassionate heart will never be forgotten. Her memories will live on treasured in the hearts of her wonderful son, whom she adored dearly, Bennie Bowen (Gail), her sister Mary Johnson Mitchel, two brothers, Curtis Johnson (Doll Baby), and Theotis Tate, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, a special daughter, Thelma Rudd and a host of nieces, nephews cousins other relatives and friends.

It is needless to say that we wish we had more time to spend with you, Granny. More time to hear you laugh, more time to take in your wisdom, and more time with the blessings of your presence. We are indeed suffering a great loss of our most Beloved and Sincere Adviser, who has left us. On this day, we do celebrate your life as we should, and we will continue for years to come.
