Life’s Reflections
Marshon
L. Black Sr., also known as Mickey, entered this world on January 20, 1999, in Memphis, TN, to the parents of Mr. Lee Witherspoon Jr and Miss Oshneisha Black. He accepted Christ at an early age at Cummings Street M.B. Church under the leadership of Reverend Gary L. Faulkner Sr., where he sang in the Children’s Choir. Marshon led the song “I’m Walking in Authority” by Donnie McClurkin.
Marshon was also known for his athletic abilities. He played football for AAU Cowboys Little Leagues, basketball, and baseball throughout his educational journey. Marshon was also an honor student. In 2017 Marshon received his high school diploma from MCS Prep School Northwest.
Those who knew Marshon will forever cherish his infectious smile and indomitable spirit. His presence touched the lives of countless family members and friends near and far.
Marshon was preceded in death by his sisters Ashlee Witherspoon, Aleecia Witherspoon, and Asia Witherspoon, his grandfather Lee Witherspoon Sr, step-grandfather Willie Fuller, and his greatgrandparents Mr. and Mrs. Calvin & Annie Fentress, Mr. and Mrs. John & Willie Mae Hopkins Sr.
On July 11, 2023, Marshon was summoned from this earthly realm, leaving behind a legacy of everlasting memories of those who loved and cherished Mickey. His three beloved children survive him, one son Marshon L. Black Jr., and his twin daughters, Madison and Addison Black; the mother of his children/ life partner Rickeisha Howard; his parents, Oshneisha Black and Lee Witherspoon Jr.; his brothers, Daniel Black, Christian Black, Jamell Witherspoon, Christopher Witherspoon, Lee Witherspoon III, and LeAnthony Kiser, his sisters; Erica (Jeremy) Harris, Ambriel Copeland, Azelliaa Witherspoon, Erielle Shelby, Lyric Walton, Akaicia Witherspoon, Akelia Thomas, his loving grandparents Flora M. Fields, Irvin L. Black, and Loretta Witherspoon, a host of aunties, uncles, cousins and other relatives who will forever hold his memories close and dear to their hearts.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Hey Dad, we miss you, your hugs, and your kisses. You were indeed our first love. We didn’t get to spend a long time with you, but when you were here, you significantly impacted our lives which we will never forget. Watch us and guide us. We’re too young to know exactly what happened or where you went; we know that when we look in the sky, we have our Invisible Superman. We love you, Daddy, and we will keep you smiling and make you proud. Love

This has been an incredible 5-year dad. I have so many questions about why I couldn’t experience you any longer. The perfect role model, a good person all around. Nobody is perfect, but to us, you were. Forever in our hearts and flying high in the sky. I know my favorite superhero is flying over me. I told them don’t call me Big June, call me MJ or Marshon Jr because your legacy lives on, and I’m going to make you proud. I love you, Dad. MJ
