“I’m Free”

Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play Tasks left undone must stay that way, I’ve found that peace at the close of day If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too will miss Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow

My life’s been full, I’ve savored much, Good friends, good times, my loved one’s touch

If my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief

Lift up your heart, rejoice with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.

When the load seemed hard to bear, we looked around and our friends were there, with food, flowers, and words spoken, with smiling faces and hearts open. You comforted us and shared our grief. May God bless and keep you, granting all relief. Our gratitude cannot be adequately expressed, but they are the best that we can offer during this period of stress.

Life’s Reflections

Marvin

Lee Rogers was born October 19, 1956 to Howard and Beatrice Rogers Eddings, Sr. in Memphis, TN. Marvin graduated from Melrose High School in 1974 and spent his entire life in the Orange Mound community. Whether a friend or an associate, most people around the community appreciated Marvin’s fun-love personality and free-spirited attitude. You just had to love him, even when he would do something that made you want to poke him in the eye. He had the ability to make you laugh and cry at the same time.

Marvin worked on a few jobs throughout his life. Some of his funniest stories were about his first real job as a bus boy/dishwasher at Britling’s Cafeteria. He was still in high school and the pay wasn’t that great, so he found ways to “supplement” his income. Needless to say, based upon the stories he would laughingly tell, Marvin’s career in the food service industry was short-lived. Throughout his adult life he went on to work in warehousing, logistics, forklift operator, and even as a carpenter’s helper, before it became too physically challenging for him to work.

Dearly loved by his family, Marvin’s son Ashley Martin Rogers, three sisters, a brother, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends are left to cherish his memories.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
