Octava Humes
was born in Greenville, Mississippi, and was raised by his wonderful parents, the Late Jessie Roberts and Julius Humes. Octava confessed hope in Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. E.I. Slay at Hill Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Octava later moved to Memphis, where he completed his high school education, enlisted in the U.S. Marines, and attended college in Tacoma, Washington, where he received his Associate’s Degree and worked for 29 years at Tacoma Mental Health Center. Octava also was a singer and had the privilege to sing with different gospel groups. This gentleman was loved by many, and he loved his family; he had a contagious smile. His hobbies were collecting rare knives and listening to oldies. Octava answered the call of the Lord on October 20, 2020. He is now reunited with his parents; Jessie and Julius, sister, Maggie Lee Mitchell, and brother; Jackie Ray Roberts, Curtis Roberts. He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters; Kim Humes and Michelle Humes, four sons; Adrian Humes(Bridin), Eric Humes, Jason Humes, and Carlton King Humes, a sister; Jency Gatewood and a brother; Clarence Jackson (Faye), eighteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
