R ose Marie Hall, 85, affectionately known as “Re-Re,” was born October 5, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee, to her loving parents, the late Wister Smith and Laura Stewart Smith. She was the fourth of six children. Rose Marie accepted Jesus Christ early in life and was baptized at the Beltline Church of Christ. She was a faithful member of the Coleman Avenue Church of Christ until her passing.
She attended Melrose High School, where she graduated and received her diploma in 1955. From there, she attended Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama, receiving her bachelor’s in Education with a Health and Physical Education concentration. Continuing to further her development, she received her Master’s in Education from the University of Memphis and then continued 45 hours past her Master’s. She taught at numerous schools within the Memphis City Schools district but retired from Airways Junior High School in 1992 after 30 years of service. Rose was an outstanding wife to the late Thomas Parks Hall, Sr., and they shared 50 years of marriage. She is a mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Rose truly loved being surrounded by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Parks Hall, Sr., her mother, Laura Stewart Smith; her father, Wister Smith; her sisters, Leila Mae Smith Maclin and Maedelle Smith Lee; brothers, Cleo Smith, Sr. (Ernestine) and Floyd Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory two loving sons, Thomas Parks Hall, Jr. and Timothy Wister Hall; a daughter, Tracie Marie Hall Matthews (Lamont, Sr.); three grandchildren, Rosemary Lauren Hall, Lamont Matthews, Jr., and Alyssa Marie Matthews, three sisters, Phronia Smith Hurt (Frank), Barbara Smith Cummings (Eugene) and Valeria Smith Barksdale (Jesse), a very special first cousin, Hattie Tuggle and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
