How much I miss you every day.

Heartaches in this world are many As time goes by, the loneliness grows; But mine is worse than any.

How I miss you, nobody knows! My heart still aches as I whisper low, I think of you in silence, “I need you and I miss you so.”

I often speak your name, The things we feel so deeply But all I have are memories Are often the hardest to say, And photos in a frame.

But I just can’t keep quiet any more, No one knows my sorrow, So I’ll tell you anyway.

Mannie Cole, Sr. and Gracie Wilson-Cole. She was the ninth of ten children, all of who preceded her in death.

Rev. Sampson Townsend, Jr.

She grew up in the Millington, TN area, and although she only completed up to a 7th-grade formal education, her wisdom was unmatched.

She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Tabernacle Church. She later moved her membership to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. After marrying, and many years at St. Paul Church, she moved to Memphis and united with Rev. Frank Briscoe at New Era Missionary Baptist Church, and then under the late Rev. Sampson Townsend, Sr. until his retirement. She was currently serving under the leadership of Rev. Sampson Townsend, Jr. From as early as the age of 8, she has been known to render spirit-filled songs, which only began her works back unto the Lord. Her church affiliations included serving as President of the Adult Choir for 35 years, a Chaplain for the Missionary Ministry, and a devout student of the Sunday School.

Expressions of Love

Her hobbies included singing, playing the piano, cooking, hosting family gatherings, and sewing. She was a nurturer who opened her doors and cared for many. As an advocate of the family unit, she spent endless hours praying for her family, ensuring their well-being, all while sustaining consistent communication with all branches of the family tree.

She was a homemaker for many years, after which she became employed by the Memphis City School system.

Ruby was united in holy matrimony to the late Ackney Washington, Jr. To this union, one daughter was born. She was the maternal guardian of two nieces which she raised and reared, one, Patricia C. Yarbrough (Arthel), preceded her in the heavenly entry.

She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish many memories: a daughter, Ackney Jean Sullivan; another cherished as a daughter, Wauleen Gaudlin of Lansing, Michigan; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, whom she loved very dearly.
