Life’s Reflections
Mr. Russell Howard Davis was born on March 27, 1952, in the vibrant town of Mason, Tennessee. Russell was a cherished son of the late Frank and Savannah Davis, and first grandchild of Howard Davis, Sr. and Elnora Rhodes.
From an early age, Russell’s unwavering faith led him to accept Christ as his savior, grounding his life in love and compassion. He pursued his education with dedication, graduating from Northside High School and furthering his passion for broadcasting at the Columbia School of Broadcasting - Memphis.
In 1971, Russell answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Army, embarking on a remarkable journey of service and selflessness. Assigned to Panama, he held the esteemed position of an INF IND Fire Crewman, demonstrating his exceptional skills in operating and maintaining indirect fire weapons systems. His commitment and expertise were recognized with the prestigious National Defense Service Medal and SPS M-16, a testament to his unwavering dedication to his country.
Beyond his military accomplishments, Russell found joy and fulfillment in various artistic pursuits. He had an innate talent for DJing, captivating audiences with his infectious love for music as a radio personality, on Memphis’ own 1340, WLOK, alongside Joan E. W. Golden as his mentor. As a gifted welder, he worked for a number of years at Memphis Light, Gas, and Water, and held various jobs where he transformed raw materials into magnificent creations, leaving an indelible mark on the world around him.
In 2018, Russell made the heartfelt decision to relocate to the DMV area, seeking the embrace of family and the warmth of his daughter’s love. Together, they created precious memories that will forever be treasured in the depths of their hearts. Russell was sure to join Greater Morning Star Apostolic Ministries, Largo, MD, where he was baptized and confessed his faith at every opportunity given.
Russell’s path was marked by the profound loss of his mother, Savannah Davis. Additionally, he mourned the passing of his dearly beloved brother, Charles “Larry” Davis, a bond that was nurtured through a lifetime of shared experiences.
On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, Russell’s earthly mission reached its fulfillment, leaving behind a legacy that will forever inspire those who were blessed to have known him.
The memories of Russell will be forever cherished by his loving daughter, Oneka Davis, who held a special place in his heart. His sister, Pearl Willis-Graham (Greg), stood by his side throughout life’s journey, offering unwavering support and love. Russell’s adored granddaughter, Autumn Silcott, held a special place in his heart, and together they shared moments of pure joy and laughter. His former spouse of thirty years, Monice Davis, whom he loved and cherished dearly.
He also leaves behind close relatives, Mildred Henderson (Otto), Clinton Davis, Margaret Davis , Garry Johnson (Patricia), Charles “June” Johnson (Janice), Ella Davis, Danny Davis, and a vast network of relatives and friends, all woven together by the threads of love and shared memories.

Memory
of Russell Howard Davis March 27, 1952 ~ April 30, 2024
I said a prayer for you today, and know God must have heard. I felt the answer in my heart, although He spoke no word! I didn’t ask for wealth or fame (I knew you wouldn’t mind), I asked Him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind! I asked that He’d be near you, at the start of each new day. To grant you health and blessings, for friends to share your way! I asked for happiness for you, in all things great and small, but it was for His loving care, I prayed the most of all.
