, the second daughter of William C. and Vivian Bond, was born June 9, 1956, in Brownsville, TN. She is the sister of Patricia Ann Milton (Sonnie Milton), Cecelia Wilburn, Ralph Bond (Andreanna Bond), and Stephanie Toney. She went to live with God on September 7, 2018. Shirlean grew up with her siblings in Memphis, TN. She was baptized and added to Vance Ave Church of Christ (Norris Road) at an early age (12 y/o). She was an active member of the Church wherever she was relocated. She was a member and teacher of ladies Bible class #2 at Norris Road Church of Christ, teacher of the teen girl’s bible class until her illness slowed her down. As an active member of her beloved East End Church of Christ, she cotaught the ladies bible class and maintained the Church Newsletter and bulletin board. As a curious child, she loved science and doing experiments to answer questions. She graduated from Westwood High School in 1974 and was a member of various organizations, such as the Latin and chemistry club, modern dance group and 1974 Debutant. Following her high school graduation, Shirlean attended Southwestern Christion College (1 yr) and received her Bachelor of Science Degree at LeMoyne Owen College, Masters of Science from Jackson State University, and Ph.D. in Plant Molecular and Genetic Physiology from Alabama A & M University. She completed her Post Doctorate at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Goodwin taught as an assistant professor in Biology at Oakwood College, Spelman College, Abilene Christian University and The University of Memphis where she retired due to her long battle with cancer. Dr. Goodwin was co-director of the Feinstone Genomic Center housed at the University of Memphis Department of Biology. As Codirector she was responsible for training, teaching and mentoring her peers, graduate, and undergraduate students. Among Dr. Goodwin’s responsibilities were setting-up training to use the technological instruments in the center, assist in experimentations needed for their research, mentoring undergraduates, chair or co-chairing committees for Ph.D. graduates. Dr. Goodwin’s greatest joy was giving birth to her only child, Marcus V. Goodwin (Roni), who later gave her two spirited, effervescent, intellectual grandboys (Marcus V, and Tai). Shirlean is also survived by nieces (Nicky Bond, Whitney (Robert) Moore, Kayla Wilburn, Alexis Bond, Alanna Bond, and nephews (Courtney Strickland (Shea), Derick Jones, Georgio (Jessica) Gordon and, Anthony Wilburn.
