Ms. Sylvia Ann (Hicks) Hurt was born October 11, 1946, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late L.T. Hicks and Willie Lee (McAlister) Hicks Wiley. At a young age, she always wanted an answer from the Bible, so she started reading and trying to understand what she was reading. She attended school in Memphis, TN, and Detroit, Michigan. On April 28, 1971, she married Preston Hurt to that union, they had three sons. Preston Hurt Jr. Rhashee and Kendall Hurt. She had a daughter Monera Renee Adams from a previous relationship. She worked many jobs in her life as a hairdresser, a cook, a seamstress, etc. But her most important love was serving God when she found out what she was looking for in the Bible. She dedicated her life to Jehovah God but helping others to learn about him in September 1974. She loved talking to people about God. As she got older and her health wasn’t so great, she never forgot about her heavenly Father. She loved working in her garden, cooking, and trying different recipes out. Many people thought she was mean because she was outspoken but, once you got to know her, she had a heart of gold and would help anybody out if she could. She had a big personality for a small woman. She was a strong woman who went through a lot, but she never blamed anyone. Sylvia would say God said that He will take care of everything in his due time. She will be missed. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, her stepmother Betty (L.T.) Hicks, her daughter Moneera Renee Adams, her sisters, and her brothers, Ruthie (Robert) Jamerson, Vernita(Valentino) Mason, Marshall (Tedra) Hicks, Tervorence (Neperterry) Watts, her grandsons; Rhashawn (Brittany) Hurt, and Ramon Adams, and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Sofia Hurt. She also adore by her nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Ms. Sylvia A. Hurt was preceded in death by her three sons Preston Hurt Jr., Rhashee Omar Hurt, and Kendall Alexander Hurt. Her sister Wilhermenia (Willie) Jones and Terry (Rose) Deurod. She was truly loved.

A Letter To My Mother

A letter to my mother You were like no other Bold unique and smart You will always be in my heart You taught me how to love and be patient And have trust sometimes I will disagree With on some things and you would fuss But the most important thing you taught Me was to have a relationship with God As I was growing up You didn’t mind using That Rod. I didn’t mind because I know You wanted me to be the Best I Can Be And because of that I thank you My dear Mother. I know one day I will see you again you weren’t just my mother, but you were my best friend.
