Meet the woman raising thousands of pounds to help protect children Sarah Brooke has raised almost £8,000 for the children’s charity, in the last six months, and admits her biggest challenge is still ahead. From bag packing and cake sales, to a series of running challenges, Sarah is determined to raise as much money as she can and is preparing to take on the London Marathon in April. Caring Cooks have received almost £6,000 from Standard Bank after the organisation introduced payroll giving in 2018 and chose the charity as a beneficiary. NEWS
The funds raised by staff will be used to deliver Caring Cooks’ Let’s Get Cooking Programme to over 1,000 primary school children in Jersey each year. The programme delivers food and nutrition education to ensure that primary school children go to secondary school with an understanding of basic nutrition and an armoury of essential life skills. The objective is to help young people make positive choices about their food as they become more independent. Debbie Cornish, Caring Cooks Marketing and Fundraising Trustee, said: “We are very grateful to Standard Bank and its employees who have donated generously through Payroll Giving, these funds will support the further growth of our Let’s Get Cooking Programme, allowing more primary school children the opportunity to learn the skills required to prepare and cook their own meals.” Standard Bank was the first bank in Jersey to bring in payroll giving, allowing employees to donate a percentage of their earnings automatically to charity each month via a payroll deduction. The monthly donations are held by the organisation until the end of the year and then passed to charity beneficiaries, who can then claim up to 25% tax back from the Jersey Income Tax Office, further boosting their fund-raising targets. The Summerland site will comprise of seven three-bedroom houses, 52 one-bedroom and 23 two-bedroom flats. It was previously home to ageing office buildings once used by the States of Jersey Police and the BBC. Andium Homes says the work to clear the site is due
to be completed on Thursday 28 March, with construction commencing the following week. Local building contractor, Camerons, has been chosen to carry out the development. It's due to be completed in the middle of 2021. When it's finished, the development will be renamed 'Le Clos Couriard' in memory of the late Mitch Couriard MBE.
