Woody Barrett – Senior, West Orange HS – The “Blue- Chipper” One of the most physically gifted quarterbacks ever to come out of Central Florida, Barrett has the size, speed, and arm strength to make any defense pay. He exploded onto the scene in his first year operating West Orange’s high-powered spread offense and led the Warriors to an 11-1 record. What will year two look like for him? And more importantly, can he lead the Warriors on a deep playoff run? Demetri Burch – Junior, Apopka HS. The “Athlete” Burch is tailor made for Apopka’s single-wing, run-based attack. A tough, hard-nose athlete who is also as shifty as they come, Burch led the Blue Darters to their 2nd 8A state championship in three years in his rookie campaign as a sophomore. Apopka doesn’t need to change a thing for him, but his continued growth as a passer will make him even harder to stop. Nick Carbone – Senior, Oviedo HS. “Mr. Everything” There are not many things Nick Carbone can’t get done on the field. Carbone was equally as deadly with his arm, as with his legs, during a stellar junior campaign. His play during the first round of the playoffs was almost enough to knock off eventual state champs, Apopka. Carbone will surprise a lot of people this year and put up huge numbers. Luke Poorman – Senior, University HS. “The Pocket Passer.” Luke Poorman is arguably the best pure passer of the group. He’s deadly accurate and had a strong showing during the 7-on-7 circuit this summer. He put together a solid junior campaign as a first-year starter. It will be interesting to see how Poorman does in a new offense under new head coach Jim Pusateri. Nick Sproles – Senior, Winter Park HS. “The Leader” Sproles busted onto the scene last year after an injury sidelined Winter Park’s senior quarterback for the majority of the year. A quarterback that steadily got better and better as the season progressed, Nick now stands at 6’3” and has the size, accuracy and smarts to have an exceptional senior season. With quality play from Sproles, Winter Park is poised for a run at a District Title and playoff push. Marvin Washington – Junior, Dr. Phillips HS. “The Wild-Card” Think about a younger version of Woody Barrett. The same size, dynamic arm, and explosive athleticism that will give opposing defenses nightmares week to week. Washington has the physical ability to end the season towards the top of this list. He saw limited varsity action as a sophomore last season, but now has the keys to the kingdom at Dr. Phillips High School. We will be hearing a lot about Marvin Washington for the next two years.
