Foundation Football This was like a heavy weight fight during the first quarter. Then the Lions took off their gloves and scored 5 unanswered Touchdowns. The Foundation Academy’s varsity football team trailed after the opening quarter against host Deltona Trinity Christian last Friday night, but by the fourth period the Lions had started a running clock. Senior linebacker Evan Thompson was on fire as he blocked 3 punts and returned an interception a school-record 100 yards for a touchdown and Dillon Hall and Jaquane Patterson combined for 5 rushing touchdowns, guiding the Lions to a 59-14 victory in a Class 2A regional semifinal at the Dewey O. Boster Sports Complex. Foundation (7-4) earned a trip to the regional finals on Nov. 18 against second-ranked Lakeland Victory Christian, which defeated Warner Christian 51-12 on Nov. 11. The Lions committed 6 turnovers during a 24-16 loss to the Storm in Week 8 at Southeastern University, in what equated to the Class 2A District 4 championship game. The Lions outscored Trinity Christian 24-0 in the second quarter to erase a 14-7 deficit, as Brandon Barnes kicked a 27-yard field goal on the final play of the first half to cap the run. Hall added a pair of 4-yard touchdown runs in the third quarter, before Thompson and Kyle Krueger both had interception returns for scores in the fourth quarter. “Our defense has just been lights out this season,” Thompson said. “We’ve got a nose for the football and we do whatever it takes to make plays.” Foundation posted nearly 400 yards of total offense. Jacob Titus completed 8-of-15 passes for 115 yards – including a 51-yard TD throw to Luke Chase (3 receptions, 87 yards) – Patterson rushed for 94 yards with scoring runs of 20 and 21 yards and Hall finished with 48 yards on 9 attempts and three touchdowns. The Lions look ahead to Lakeland who defeated them last year. FSM will be there to cover this exciting game.
Foundation Academy Football Senior Night was a huge Success Foundation Academy Football closed out its 2016 regular season with a 52-20 Senior Night victory over West Oaks Academy on Oct. 28 at Walker Field. Rahman would also have a pick-6 in
the second quarter. Defensively, Rahman scored twice and Evan Thompson returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown. Jaquane Patterson would rush for 114 yards, putting him at 1,001 yards for the season. Patterson would also score a touchdown on a 36-yard pass from Jacob Titus.

Washington and Bargnare worked very
from the defense, which accounted for a blocked punt for a safety by Jaquarri Powell and an interception return TD by D.J. Charles. The Dr. Phillips special teams has been solid this season. They have a great field goal kicker and punter. Jaquarri Powell blocked a punt in the Hurricane’s end zone for a safety and Charles picked off Manatee quarterback A.J. Colagiovanni and returned the interception 23 yards for a score. X’Andre McCleary of Dr. Phillips added a 44yard scoring run.

Winter Park Football Comes alive to defeat Wekiva to Advance The host Wildcats scored the go-ahead touchdown with a little more than four minutes to play Friday to come away with a 30-21 win over Wekiva in a Class 8A region quarterfinal at Showalter Field.
in him and let him go get it. ”Wekiva, which turned the ball over four times, was unable to secure the ball on the ensuing kickoff as two players bumped into each other along the sideline while fielding the return.
Winter Park returned two interceptions for touchdowns and slowed Wekiva running back Jaylon Fair just enough to limit his effectiveness despite finishing with a game-high 151 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries.
The Wildcats (8-3), ranked No. 14 in the Sentinel Super 16, lost 35-7 at No. 7 Wekiva (7-4) on Sept. 23. This time around it came down to a solid effort on defense and a gutsy play at quarterback for a touchdown in crunch time.
The Wildcats recovered and responded with a 34yard field goal by Tom Daly to ice the game less than two minutes later. Winter Park hosts district foe Timber Creek, ranked No. 10, in the second round on Friday. The Wolves upset No. 2 Apopka on the road 40-39.
Cameron Brown stepped in front of a pass by Trey McGee on Wekiva’s first drive and returned an interception 42 yards to put the Wildcats in front 7-0 less than two minutes into the game. Kevince Brown gave the Wildcats a 21-14 lead inside the final minute of the third quarter when he pulled down a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage and rumbled 75 yards the other way.
Winter Park’s Cameron Lagree held on to the football until the very last moment before taking a hit, unloading a 30-yard pass over the middle into the end zone for Dre Williams to give the Wildcats a 27-21 lead. “I knew my line had me and we had the double move going to Dre, and I just had to let him finish his move,” Lagree said. “Once he got to the top of his route I put my trust
“We went over there [earlier in the season] and really got our butts kicked, so I challenged these kids all week,” said Winter Park coach Tim Shifflet of the regular-season loss to Wekiva. And the team responded with timely defensive plays to keep the game close until the offense was able to get in position to put the game away.
“It came down to the kids wanting it a little more than they did ... getting a little bit tougher, playing better up front, and stopping the run a little bit better,’’ Shifflet said. “All those things we stressed all week in practice that didn’t happen when we played them in Week 4.”

Orange County and Seminole County Football Senior Bowl face off on December 14 at Showalter Field for the Backyard Blitz. Roger Franklin Williams is the creator and host of the Talkin’ Old School Radio program, which is broadcast every week on FM 96.9 THE GAME, AM 740 THE GAME, FM 102.5 WFLA and AM 540 WFLA. Talkin’ Old School is a sports talk show with a “point of view”---that point of view is to promote the “Old School” values of hard work, team work and respect for the game and to highlight the ballplayers, coaches and teams who represent that “Old School” ethos. Williams will announce the Backyard Blitz along with videographer, Quik Cut, for streaming after the game on you tube. This will give the Backyard Blitz a permanent record of its inaugural All Star Game and for coaches looking at athletes for potential scholarships. Roger Williams believes in the values that make high school sports impactful on young athletes. Williams says, “Participating in sports can be one of the most positive, uplifting experiences of a young person’s life. Sports are where high school student-athletes learn valuable lessons such as teamwork, goal setting, hard work, focus, persistence and perseverance, discipline, accountability, responsibility, how to deal with adversity, humility, respect for teammates, coaches, opponents and other students, as well as many other life lessons that will serve them well in their life as adults. I am constantly amazed at the dedication and passion of high school coaches and teachers; they have one of the absolute most important jobs in our country and it is a personal passion of mine to highlight and recognize their hard work and commitment to our young students. The new Backyard Blitz All-Star Challenge football game, set for Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Showalter Field in Winter Park, will have a halftime program that brings together football players ages 10-18 and law enforcement officers for a ceremony emphasizing mutual respect. The game matching seniors from Orange County against Seminole County senior standouts is set for Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Showalter Field in Winter Park. It’s an expansion of the decades-old Orange County Senior Bowl game. Former Senior Bowl MVP and Dr. Phillips, UCF and NFL player Doug Gabriel will headline the halftime program. Head coaches for the game are Trinity Prep assistant Dave Langdon for Orange and Hagerty head coach Phil Ziglar for Seminole. Both have been driving forces behind the Senior Bowl game for years. Florida Sporting News highly supports this game and will be covering the Backyard Blitz Senior Bowl action on December 14th.

UCF is committed to keep great football players here in Central Florida UCF hosted six prospects on Saturday during the NCAA official recruiting visits, including Orlando Dr. Phillips quarterback Marvin Washington, who is their top area recruit. Four of the official visitors, including Washington, are committed to UCF’s 2017 recruiting class. Washington is coming off a big victory Friday night in the opening round of the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 8A state playoffs. Dr. Phillips defeated Bradenton Manatee 39-7. Washington passed for 184 yards and a touchdown. Making a good case to why he’s going to UCF.
The other official visitors already pledged to UCF are safety Tariq Carpenter of Lincolnton (Ga.) Long County High, linebacker Kalia Davis of Pensacola West Florida Tech and defensive end Chris Whitaker of Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. UCF is still trying flip a commitment from Kentucky pledge Joshua Ali, a teammate of Carpenter’s at Chaminade-Madonna. He was also on an official visit, as was defensive end Jeremiah Zio of St. Petersburg Admiral Faragut. The most notable unofficial visitor was Orange
City University High’s Lorenzo Lingard, who is ranked as the No. 2-ranked 2018 running back in the country by 247Sports. Joining Washington in the crowd was Dr. Phillips junior receiver Davarius Bargnare, the brother of UCF freshman receiver Jaquarius Bargnare. The younger Bargnare caught five balls for 73 yards Friday night, including a 55-yard touchdown pass from Washington. This passing duel has been on fire all season. This will be a great opportunity for the Bargnare brothers to play college football together with a top rank quarterback
Tommy Bahama and NFL Players join together at the Mall at Millenia The Tommy Bahama store at The Mall at Millenia was the place to be on Saturday, November 5, 2016. NFL Hall of Fame player, Larry Little, NFL legends like Donovan Darius, Fernando Smith, Mike Attardi and Brian Travis were signing and interacting with their customers. This was not highly publicized event by Tommy Bahama for a reason. The reason why this was not highly publicized is due to a new Tommy Bahama marketing campaign. This new creative and innovative marketing, creates a different customer and fan appreciation that allows personal attention. All that Tommy Bahama wanted these NFL legends to do, is pick out the clothes for them to keep and post them on their own personal social media outlets. This was a great way for the players to invite who they wanted to come, rather than a crazy fan or mob scene. We think this could be the smartest marketing of athletes to date. By reaching to the players own networks, it brings out people they want to be at their event. It’s almost like a formal
invitation from your favorite NFL player. The players brought their own smart phone and they helped each other promote on each other’s social media outlets using Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Go on Facebook to see the post. Also visit Social Blackbelt at www.socialblackbelt.com for more NFL Player events here in Florida. The NFL players are looking forward to doing more events at this location once again in December. So, if a NFL Football Hall of Fame player comes up to you at Tommy Bahama next month, don’t be surprised. Also, former NFL player and 4 time Award-Winning Children’s book writer, Mike Attardi will be making a surprise meet and greet in December with the local charity “One Heart for Women and Children at the Tommy Bahama Store located at the Mall at Millenia. Attardi will have two children’s books that he will be signing. Look at his Facebook site at Mike Attardi NFL Player to get more information on the date. Tommy Bahama is known for their RELAX attitude and this new marketing is just that!
