West Orange Baseball Dominate Beginning of Season
by Greyson Everidge
WEST ORANGE – The West Orange Warriors baseball team, coached by Jesse Marlo, has looked like one of the best teams in the State in the opening part of the season. The Warriors, who have always been a strong side, have started with a (13-1) record, on a current win streak of eight games. With seven seniors on the squad, all of whom have signed to play college ball, the Warriors were always going to be strong. Strong, however is an understatement. West Orange knows that this could be their year to finally advance out of the district, having been held back by powerhouses like Olympia and Apopka in previous seasons. Led by their seniors, including University of North Carolina signee Tyler Baum and Lander University signee Nathan Schreckengost, the Warriors started the campaign with a solid 5-1 win against Winter Springs (5-6). That game was immediately followed by a double header against a strong Bishop Moore (7-5) team, which both ended in 4-3 wins for the Warriors. Ever since then, West Orange has only gained momentum. That double header was followed up with 10-0 and 12-0 wins against Montverde (4-2) and Evans (4-6) respectively. The Warriors suffered a minor setback and their only loss of the season so far against Trinity Christian Academy (10-0)
in a tight 10-8 game. However since that loss, they have never looked back. West Orange has since won 9-1, 10-0, 12-2, 9-7, 9-7, 10-0, 2-1, and 10-0. The wins, the majority of which were blowouts, came against teams like Dr. Phillips (4-6), Lake Minneola (5-4), Ocoee (7-5), and Apopka (8-2). The Apopka Blue Darters have been a team which the Warriors have only been able to win three of the last ten meetings between the teams, which goes a long way in showing how good of a team the Warriors really are this year.
The next match for the Warriors comes against the Wekiva Mustangs (2-10) on March 9th, at 7 pm. West Orange is looking to extend their unbeaten run to nine, and continue the solid form that they have as the playoffs draw closer with every match played.

West Orange Softball Exceptionally Strong
by Greyson Everidge
WEST ORANGE – The West Orange Softball team, just like their fellow baseball players, are a force to be reckoned with. The lady Warriors dominated the opening portion of the season, currently holding a (12-1) record. Along with only having one loss, they have put together a string of five wins in a row.
conditions which started weeks before the opening day of the season. Throughout the season, the wins have only gotten bigger and better, too.
West Orange beat a solid Lake Brantley (58) 4-0, and then destroyed Edgewater (3-9) by a score of 16-0. They then turned right It all started with a 5-1 win on the opening around and beat the Wekiva Mustangs (5-8) day of the season, against a strong Eustis by a score of 18-3. Two additional big wins team (10-1). The win against one of the best against Timber Creek (5-5) and Dr. Phillips teams in the State helps give us an early idea (5-5) by a score of 11-5 and 16-0 led up to of just what the Warriors are capable of. That their first and only loss of the season so far win was then followed up with a 5-2 win which came against American Heritage (9against East Ridge (4-4). 0). Head Coach Todd LaNeave has no doubt That match, against a top 25 ranked team prepared the girls for a great season, starting nonetheless, was by no means a failure. all the way back with the intensive preseason They only lost 1-0, and anything could really
have happened in that game. Playing against such tough opposition and holding firm in hard games are only going to make the Warriors better, and they know that. The Warriors have since been on a five game win streak, coming up big against opponents like Lake Brantley, Ocoee (5-6), Olympia (6-4), East River (7-7) and South Lake (5-7). Their next matchup comes against Evans (07) on Tuesday, March 8th at 7pm. The Trojans, who currently sit without a win, should prove to be no match for the Warriors. That game, should help prepare West Orange for their match against a much more formidable Apopka, who sit with an (8-4) record.

Dr. Phillips Softball Results All Over the Place by Greyson Everidge
DR. PHILLIPS – Dr. Phillips softball (5-5) have had an even season from their first ten games, and are looking to keep improving as it progresses. Head Coach Michael Gale is working with the team to make sure that they can build off of previous results and turn their season into one to remember. The Panthers didn’t start their season quite how they would have wanted, losing 6-1 to Winter Park (6-6). They couldn’t get much going, and in the end that hurt them. The Panthers then lost their second game as well, as Bishop Moore (11-2) beat them 8-0 in a blowout game, where the Panthers stood no real chance. They then got their first win of the season in a tight 8-7 game
against Ocoee (5-6), which saw them finally put some solid runs on the scoresheet despite giving up a few to their opposition. It was a step in the right direction as they went into their match against a strong Olympia team (6-4). That victory against Ocoee was short lived, as Olympia killed the Panthers 19-0. It was a major setback, but one that most would have expected given the way things had been playing out before the game. They were then beat by another rival, West Orange (12-1) in yet another blowout game which saw them lose 16-0. On the opposite side of that spectrum, they defeated Evans (0-7) 17-0, who have still yet to win a game.
Understandably, results have been all over the place, as the very next game they lost to Apopka (8-4) 15-3. Apopka are strong, so it didn’t come as a surprise, yet they still feel as if they could have done more to keep the game closer. Again swinging from one extreme to the other they beat Oak Ridge (0-9) 18-0 who have also failed to get a win. The Panthers beat Wekiva (5-8) 6-2 and Oak Ridge once again 17-0. Their next game will come against Foundation Academy (6-6) on March 8th, where the Panthers could easily walk away with a win should they bring their best game to the Lions.
Olympia Softball Looking Forward to Season by Greyson Everidge
ORLANDO – The Olympia Titans softball team (6-4) are looking toward a good season, a year later from one of their strongest in many years. Led by Head Coach Stephanie Manny, the Titans are working towards advancing out of the district this year, which is a tall task considering the opponents that are in the district with them. Their first match of the season came against Winter Park (6-6) in a more than comfortable win for the Titans, as they put 12 past the Wildcats, and only gave up two. Despite that win, they lost their next match to a well-known Apopka team (8-4). That game, saw the Titans give up 16 runs to the Darters. While they scored 7 themselves, it wasn’t enough to get the win. They used that to their advantage, learning
from the loss and using it to motivate themselves. The Titans turned right around and smashed Dr. Phillips (5-5), winning 19-0. They then had an additional three wins in tight succession, beating Edgewater (3-9), Wekiva (5-8), and Ocoee (5-6). All three of these wins were in a superb fashion. They beat Edgewater 21-5, Wekiva 22-5, and Ocoee 16-2. After three wins from three, the Titans went 0 for 2. The first loss was to East Ridge (4-4) in a close 2-0 game. In a game like that, anything could happen. On another day, the final result could easily be flipped. The next was a deserving loss to a more than capable West Orange
(12-1). The Warriors ran rampant in a 10-1 game, which was only ever going to see one winner. The Titans beat an under par Wekiva team (5-8), which saw the Titans win 12-5 in a fairly easy game which did them good after such a heavy defeat to West Orange. They then lost to newly added Lake Brantley (5-8), who have been known to have a strong program on both the girls and boys side of the ball game. The Titans will look to improve upon that 15-7 loss as they move into their next game, which is to be played against the Evans Trojans (0-7), who have yet to win a single game.

Dr. Phillips Baseball Look to Improve
by Greyson Everidge
DR. PHILLIPS – The Dr. Phillips Panthers baseball team has long been known as a powerhouse in the area in more than one sport, and baseball is no exception. They have produced some exceptional players in past years, and this year they look like they have some strong players to help them achieve great things. However, after ten games played an only four wins under their belt it doesn’t look like it’s going to be the best of seasons. They aren’t taking anything from anyone though, and under Head Coach Mike Bradley the team is working hard to improve on what they started. Dr. Phillips started with a win against University High (5-11), when they put 9 past their opponents and only let 5 runs in. University aren’t the best of teams, but they are still good competition for any team and it was important that the Panthers season started with a win. Their next game was a big loss to Lake Mary (5-8). The Panthers were beaten 11-0 on the night, and struggled to get any runners on bases throughout the whole night. They again struggled to get any real runners
on base a few days later when they lost to Ovideo (7-3-1) 11-2. It was their second large loss in a row, which saw them concede 22 runs in just two games.
a 9-1 match. It was something that most expected because of the way both West Orange and Dr. Phillips had been playing leading up to the match.
The Panthers got back on track with a tight win against Lake Howell (2-8) in an 8-7 game which helped them take some of their weaknesses that were exploited earlier and fix them. It worked, as they won.
The Panthers then lost to Ocoee (7-5), beat Evans (4-6) and Cypress Creek (4-7) and then lost to Cyprus Creek two days later as part of a double header. Dr. Phillips then also lost to rivals Olympia (9-3) 2-0. Their next game is against Freedom High School (4-7) on March 11th, at 4pm.
However, they lost again in the next match to a very strong West Orange team (13-1), in

West Orange Volleyball Wins Season Opener
by Aleeshia Hatcher
Orlando- Season has finally come around for Boys Volleyball and the West Orange Warriors have a team that shouldn’t be overlooked this year. Talented Outside Hitters like Junior Matthew Anetrella and Sophomore Carlos Figueroa add strength and efficient passing to the team. Hard-hitting Junior Middle John Hynes brings power and blocking skills to the team. Last but not least, Sophomore Setter Raffi Valles puts up great sets to his hitters to help the team win games. West Orange started their season with a home game against St. Cloud hoping to start the season 1-0. The first set was dominated by West
Orange and ended in a 25-13. In the second set St. Cloud put up a good fight but couldn’t pull out a win in the end of the set losing 25-23. By the third set, the Warriors blew by St. Cloud by a score of 25-12 and completed the sweep of 3-0 over St. Cloud. “I was really proud of how we played tonight, I didn’t know what to expect from our team and how much chemistry we would have on the court but we played well and I feel like this will be a fun and memorable season for sure” said OH Matthew Anetrella. Warriors start the season (1-0) and St. Cloud ends their first game with a loss (0-1).
The Warriors clashed with the Dr. Phillips Panthers (Orlando, FL) in a District 4 match, on Thursday, March 3. West Orange attempted to advance on its 1-0 season record. The Panthers come into the match with a 1-1 record after their 3-0 league loss to Boone. St. Cloud traveled to Celebration (Celebration, FL) to clash with the Storm in a District 2 match on Thursday, March 3. The Storm came into the match with a record of 0-1. Celebration lost 3-2 in their recent nonleague match against Edgewater.
Olympia Volleyball off to a Great Start in the Season by Matthew Anetrella
The Olympia Titans (3-0) had an historic season last year making it all the way to the District Finals and had to face a strong Bishop Moore team. Bishop Moore would end up beating the Titans and were crowned District Champions. This year Olympia has a chip on their shoulder to make it back to the District Finals and pick up where they left off and win a District Title. Olympia won this game in two sets, first set was 25-16 and then the second set was closer for Boone but Olympia still won the set by a score of 25-20. Danny Hermida had 9 kills for Boone which was a team-high in the game. Olympia passed the ball very well in the two sets, not allowing Boone any aces during the whole game. Next up, the Titans battle the Apopka Blue Darters (0-1) in a District 4 contest, on Tuesday, March 8. Olympia will attempt to better its 3-0 season record. The Blue Darters go into the contest with a 0-1 record after their 3-0 league loss to Bishop Moore (2-0).

Lake Highland Wrestling Complete Record Setting State Run by Greyson Everidge
KISSIMME – The FHSAA Wrestling State Championship tournament concluded this past weekend, with Lake Highland running rampant across the board. All 12 wrestlers who made it to the State Finals made their way into the podium. Records were broken, and new ones set in place that are sure to last for a long time. The best part, is that most of the champions will be returning to compete again next year.
tillo (113), and Ryan Chauvin (106) all won their championships, helping complete the great feat that Lake Highland accomplished. Cleary, Rogers, Silva, and Wohltman all were repeat winners for the Highlanders, earning their second or even third State Title individually. All the hard work had culmitention once people realized he was an 8th Grader when he often times competed against kids who were sometimes four or five years older than him. Both Kai Bele (132) and Max Cosmides (138) finished in fifth place for the Highlanders.
A staggering nine wrestlers won State Championships for the Highlanders individually, which broke the previous record of seven State Champions. Lake Highland also broke another record, this time for most points achieved in a State Tournament. The previous record had been held by Brandon. The Lakers, who racked up 296.5 points, unseated the previous record by 26 points. For some wrestlers, it was a repeat year which saw them win yet another title. For others, it was another opportunity to make up on lost championships the year before. Jake Brindley, who took second in his championship match last year, won this time around. He kept his cool, and took down his opponent to win his third State Championship in as many High School years. They were hungrier than their opponents, and that burning desire to win was clearly evident in the way the Lake Highland boys preformed. One of the major standouts amongst the many stars of the team is Cleary, who will wrestle for Ohio State in the coming year. Castillo, another standout, started getting serious at-

Olympia Baseball Still Strong
by Greyson Everidge
ORLANDO – A year after being ranked #1 in the nation by Max Preps, the Olympia Titans are anything but a fragment of their former self. The Titans are still a very strong team, and while they may face more competition from other opponents in the district, they are still one of the favorites to walk away with a district championship. Sitting with a (9-3) record after 12 games, they look good. The first match played by the Titans resulted in a sizeable win, as they defeated Winter Park (84) 8-1. Foundation Academy Softball Is Even by Andrea Lerner
WINTER GARDEN - The Foundation Academy softball team (6-6) has produced an even record this season. From the beginning, they have only hoped to do their very best. Their most recent loss took place at Master’s Academy (11-8) by a score of 4-3. The Lions were hopeful the whole game that they would be adding another win to their ongoing record. This wasn’t so, but the girls left the game with high heads. Even with the loss, they were hopeful of what else would come. The girls have won against Legacy Charter and Jones, which only boosted their confidence as a team. Playing the field has taken a toll on the Lions while also battling the difficulties of high school. Somehow, in some way, the girls have tried to come together as a team to make the most of the season. The more wins the Foundation team gains, the happier they are. With a higher record, means more chances of what is to come in the future. But the Lions have learned how to handle a loss. They are unlike other teams, they are ready to win but will cope with losing. Together, they are a family and realize what is most important in the game. With this strategy, they can only hope to go farther than ever this season.

Dr. Phillips Girls Lacrosse Holds Impressive Record By Andrea Lerner
ORLANDO - The Dr. Phillips girls lacrosse team (7-1) are thankful for the opportunities they have had this year to create such an amazing record. The team is confident in each other and their coaches to only continue the wins they have gained. The Panthers only loss was to Olympia (11-2). The game took place at the end of February, but the girls have not forgotten it. The final score was 19-9, and the Pan-
thers left Olympia’s home with terrible feelings. The girls hold this loss close, to know what to do in order for it to not happen again.

Olympia Girls Pick Up Speed This Lacrosse Season By Andrea Lerner
ORLANDO - The Olympia girls lacrosse team (11-2) has done nothing but shine this 2016 season. With an impressive record, the team has held out for some amazing wins. Their most recent game resulted in one of their two losses. The match took place just recently this month against Vero Beach (71). The final score was an upsetting 13-7, sending the Titans home with the loss. Overcoming a loss is definitely hard, but the Olympia girls are ready to boost their
confidence back up by winning the next game. They take on Celebration (7-3) next this month. With help from coaches, the team is ready to get back out on the field. The win would only advance their ongoing record, and make the team extremely proud. The lacrosse girls have won against teams such as Freedom, Dr. Phillips, and West Orange. The Titans have been on a roll this year, and only hope to further it. Most of their wins have been close, and there were times when they felt as if it was going to
be a loss. Other times, the wins have been so extreme, they just wanted to keep playing. The girls are ecstatic to take on Celebration next. They know that they are not perfect as a team, but will work hard to come close to it. Losing might have brought them down that night, but now all they can do is get back up and pick up their sticks. The final score of their next game will only show how much hard work and dedication they really put into practice.

Orlando City Complete Late Comeback on Opening Day by Greyson Everidge
ORLANDO CITRUS BOWL – The Orlando City Lions, almost exactly a year after their inaugural match, scored a stoppage time goal to equalize their opening game of the season in front of 60,000plus fans. This time, the Lions were pitted against Real Salt Lake instead of New York City FC, and there was a renewed energy as professional soccer returned to Orlando yet again. Two goals apiece, and two red cards all came to a crazy end when in the 95th minute Adrian Winter slipped into the box off a Servando Carrasco long ball up the middle of the pitch, which landed perfect for Winter who made no mistake on the finish. The goal, which sent 60,147 people into a frenzied roar, came just a
minute after MLS Rookie of the Year Cyle Larin scored the goal which put thoughts of a comeback into the minds of fans around the stadium, having previously been down 2-0. Larin’s goal came in the 94th minute of stoppage time, when he found himself open space in Real Salt Lake’s box and latched onto the end of a Brek Shea cross. The touch redirected the ball into the right side netting to bring the game within a goal, and ultimately led help lead to the tying goal. Fans were ecstatic to see Winter’s goal go in, and with good reason. Earlier in the match, City gave away a penalty kick through Seb Hines. That penalty kick in
the 26th minute led to the opening goal, which was scored by Real Salt Lake’s Joao Plata. Plata was again the man who came up big, when in the 66th minute he got into the end of a cross to finish calmly and extend the lead to two. Then, the “Citrus Bowl Magic” kicked in. Fans of the Lions have come to know this term, which refers to the large number of stoppage time goals scored in the Citrus Bowl last season, which has clearly carried on into this season, too. City’s next match will be played on Friday, March 11th at the Citrus Bowl against the Chicago Fire. The Lions, will be looking to capture their first win of the campaign after a good opening afternoon.
Orlando Pride Bring Professional Women’s Soccer to Orlando by Greyson Everidge
ORLANDO – The Orlando Pride, Orlando’s newest professional sports team, is gaining hype. Led by World Cup Winner and Olympic Gold Medalist Alex Morgan, the Pride are drawing in more and more fans to experience a first of its kind for Orlando. The headline signing for the Pride, Alex Morgan, had her first taste of soccer in the City Beautiful back in October when she scored a goal in the 3-1 win against Brazil in the National Team’s Victory Tour. That goal which was scored in front of a record crowd at the Citrus Bowl was surely the first of many for Morgan in Orlando, who has an incredible scoring record for not only the Women’s National Team but with her former team Portland in the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League). Another big name signing and teammate of Morgan on the National Team is Ashlyn Harris. Harris, a goal keeper and fellow World Cup Winner, has been a solid and consistent player for years on end with both her former club team the Washington Spirit. Kaylyn Kyle also joined the team earlier in the year during the expansion draft, joining from the Houston Dash after a short time on the team. Kyle is also a seasoned international player, being a key player for the United States bitter rivals to the north, Canada. There is excitement growing in Orlando as the opening day of the season draws closer. A familiar site to all Orlando residents, the Orlando City car magnet, has too been extended to the Pride. They are expecting a good crowd, too. The mass media expendability of the players is proving vital to grabbing the attention of potential fans, and the City match played this past weekend will only help in their effort to attract fans. The Pride are set to play their inaugural game on Sunday,
April 17th against Morgan’s old team the Portland Thorns, in Oregon. They then come back home to play their first home match in the Citrus Bowl on Saturday, April 23rd at 7:30 against Kyle’s old team, the Houston Dash. Both games, played against old friends none the less, will prove exciting for players, coaches and fans.

player to win it three times in a row. Woods has won the Arnold Palmer Invitational eight times, including four in a row from 2000-2003. “I’d love to have that chance,” said Every, 32. “I’ve done pretty well so far when I‘ve put myself in position, so that is always the first thing to do, just be somewhere around the lead.” Last year, Every was three behind Stenson when he shot
Thus he got a similar result. “I don’t know what it is about Bay Hill,” Every, ranked 141st in the world, mused. “But it just seems to work out for me.” In addition to the names Day and Rose, add that of Darren Clarke, a past British Open winner and current European Ryder Cup captain. ORLANDO, Fla. (March 4, 2016) - A third straight victory in the Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard would place Matt Every in some highly exclusive company. His path to a three-peat continues to get more difficult, however, with world No. 2 Jason Day and No. 7 Justin Rose joining a stellar field that already includes No. 3 Rory McIlroy, No. 8 Bubba Watson and a bevy of other top players. Every, from Daytona Beach, Fla., has won two PGA TOUR victories - both at Bay Hill and both in come-from-behind fashion. With an 18-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole in 2015, Every capped a closing 6-under-par 66 to rally from a three-shot deficit and win by one stroke over Sweden’s Henrik Stenson. The year before, Every rallied from a fourshot deficit to burst by Adam Scott in the final round. With his second straight victory and handshake from Palmer, Every became just the third man to win back-toback at Bay Hill, after Loren Roberts and Tiger Woods. If he wins again, he’ll join Tiger Woods, who is the only
what was tied for the lowest score in the final round. He was never close to making a bogey in finishing at 19-under 269. He became the first player since Payne Stewart in 1987 to win at Bay Hill with all four rounds in the 60s. It was an impressive display. “It seemed like I was replaying the same round I played the year before,” said Every, who in 2013, closed with a 70. “Some of the places I hit the ball were very similar. In 2014, I looked up at 13 and I had a three-shot lead. In 2014, it was tougher, but after 13 I was tied. I thought ‘Oh, there you go.’ It just felt very similar.”

Golf fans will be watching how these two captains match up for the week. “We are looking at a good field shaping up, and we are very pleased that the top players continue to support the tournament,” Arnold Palmer, the tournament host, said enthusiastically. “Everything looks good, and we are expecting a great week.” For tickets to the 2016 Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard, visit www.arnoldpalmerinvitational.com or call 407.876.2888.
