Holmdel, NJ - Another year and another Shore Regional field hockey Shore Conference Tournament Championship. This time a 5-0 victory of Freehold Boro, whom the Blue Devils have face three out of the last four years in the finals. With the victory Shore has now improved their SCT Championship record to 15th straight titles and 18th overall. This group from start to finish today had one thing in mind and that was to be aggressive on both sides of the field and continue the Shore Regional tradition.

on and off the field. Middough battled injuries in the beginning of her high school career, but her determination and willingness to do whatever the team needed is what she focused on. Williams said, “last season we moved Carol back to midfield to solidify our offense, this season we gave her the forward position back and she has been unstoppable.”
Middough who record another goal on the day has now become the All-Time leading scorer in Shore Regional history, surpassing Aileen Johnson from two years ago. The Yale bound forward has 112 goals in her career. Coach Nancy Williams could not give enough praise about Carole from her hard work both
The Blue Devils now stand at 18-0-1 with their impressive run through their regular season and Shore Conference Tournament run. During the SCT run the Blue Devils did not give up a single goal, just another remarkable stat for this program along with their 43rd straight regular season division title.
The No. 3 seed Bulldogs (16-1-1) advanced to the final when senior center midfielder Matt Dell headed in a perfect corner kick from senior forward Harry Gassert in the 77th minute to beat Holmdel (15-2-1) for the second time this season. Since 2010, the Hornets are 7-3 against the Bulldogs with two of those losses coming this season. The Bulldogs and Hornets came into the contest with identical records (15-1-1, 10-1), splitting their two games and both tying the Raritan Rockets. The two schools are also the two top seeds in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II bracket. Dell, who stands 6-foot-3, positioned himself perfectly near the back post and zeroed in on Gassert’s kick, out-leaping the nearest defender and heading the ball past Holmdel keeper, Tyler Marchiano into the far back corner of the net. “When we get set pieces like that we always try to capitalize,” Dell said of his game-winning goal. “I’m the tallest guy out there so coach (first year head coach Will Gould) always tells me to go up and get it. I said at halftime, ’you guys got to get me a keeper,’ so I was waiting for one of those all game.”

Rumson had five other corner kick opportunities prior to the winner, but it was the last one that hit pay dirt. Gasserts kick had optimum
hang time allowing Dell to converge on the goal and finish off the play. “It was nice to finish off a corner, Dell added. “ We haven’t been doing that all year and if we’re going to win this tournament we have to capitalize on our scoring opportunities.” “I just tried to get the ball to the back post and give our guys a chance,” Gassert said. “We have a lot of guys who are great in the air and none better than Dell.” “Eamon (Kitson) was getting doubled every time he touched the ball,” Gould said. “So we moved him to mid and Matt into the back. Something was off and we struggled with that so we brought Matt back up where he’s most effective. He’s been tremendous for us winning 50-50 balls out of the air and helping defend against counters. We like to push him up on set pieces because he’s such a big target.” Rumson had an opportunity to take an early lead at 2:23 into the game after being rewarded a penalty kick when Gassert was knocked down in the box, but Marchiano made a nice stop anticipating Pete Martin’s shot. Marchiano made a number of brilliant saves, particularly in the second half when the Bulldogs dominated play and were on the attack for most the half but just couldn’t finish. “It’s frustrating,” Gould said. “It’s been a struggle all year where we dominate and pound the net and teams pack it in on us dropping ten behind the ball. Although we’re rip-
ping shots we’re not getting the best looks with so many guys in the way. I tell them to keep playing our game and keep knocking until somebody answers.” Marchiano saved eight shots, as the Bulldogs bombarded him with 16 total shots on goal. Gassert , Martin, Kitson and Bulldog leading scorer Mike Slutz (13 goals) all had their chances but Marchiano kept the Hornets in the game with one terrific stop after another. “He just made some fantastic saves all game for them,” Gould said. “We were constantly putting pressure on the net, I give him credit for the game he had tonight.” Holmdel did have one good chance for a score in the second half at the 51 minute mark when senior midfielder Jack Flanagan made a run up the left side and blistered a shot at a difficult angle from about 15-yards out that Rumson keeper Chris Tierney made a diving stop on. The Hornets were once again without one of their top offensive weapons in Gino D’Agostino (8 goals and 7 assists), who missed the entire tournament with a foot injury. Holmdel also lost senior forward Jason Kyriacou, the Hornets leading scorer with 12 goals and six assists, midway through the first half with a hamstring injury and he did not return. The win was the Bulldogs third straight shutout in three tournament games and the way their defense is playing, a fourth in the final would not surprise anyone.

Lady Bulldogs Reach SCT Semi Finals By Michael Rogers
The Rumson Fair Haven girls’ field hockey team has a record of 17-1-1 and are ranked number two in the Shore Conference this season. The Bulldogs also reached the semi finals of the Shore Conference Tournament and after a strong first half Rumson led by the score of 2 to 1 but could not hold the lead and were upset by the number three seed in Freehold
Township. The Colonials used a strong second half to defeat the Bulldogs by the score of 3 to 2. The Bulldogs put on a strong first half when after a quick goal by Freehold, Rumson responded with an unassisted goal by Madison Maguire at the five minute mark tying the game at one. one minute mark giving the Bulldogs a 2 to 1 lead at halftime. Just fifty seconds into the second half, Freehold’s Haley Meade, tied the score at two with an unassisted goal. The Colonials kept up their aggressive style and when Tori Tiefenthaler scored with ten minutes to go in the game it gave the Colonials a 3 to 3 victory over the Bulldogs. For the Bulldogs, they now move on to the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II state playoffs as the number one seed in their bracket and they registered a first round victory over Delaware Valley by the score of 2 to 0. Abigail Donohue and Maguire each scored a goal for the Bulldogs in the victory as Rumson outshot Delaware Valley 20 to 0 in the game. The Bulldogs will now play the winner of a match up between Matawan and A.L. Johnson and will play that second round game on November 7th.
RED BANK CATHOLIC GIRLS SOCCER ADVANCE TO SHORE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT FINAL By Mike Ready
NEPTUNE – Red Bank Catholic is no stranger to playing in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinal round, having lost there on penalty kicks the last two years. So when the No.6 seed Caseys (16-2-2) and the Toms River South Indians (16-2), seeded No.2, battled to a scoreless tie in regulation Wednesday at Memorial Field in Neptune, it was déjà vu all over again, but with a very different outcome. “The last two years we were in the exact same spot and lost on penalty kicks both times,” senior forward Grace Correll said after beating the Indians 1-0 in overtime. “It’s an amazing win, I can’t even describe it. This is our year; we’re not going down without a fight. Thank God Olivia finished it.” Olivia is sophomore midfielder/forward Olivia Lucia, who scored the game winning goal six minutes into overtime. Senior midfielder Elizabeth Thoresen’s perfectly placed corner kick deflected off Correll and into Lucia’s path, who placed the ball just out of the reach of leaping Indian keeper, Taylor Dean, with the ball sneaking in just under the crossbar. “I couldn’t believe it actually went in,” Lucia said. “I didn’t know if it went in or not. I turned back around and I was like, ‘did that really go in?’ It’s so exciting… oh my gosh.” I saw the ball coming to me off a deflection,” Lucia added. “I saw an opening and took the shot with my left foot; my right foot is my natural shot. We just wanted to go to the goal as soon as possible; we didn’t want penalty kicks. “We have ten seniors on the team,” Red Bank Catholic first-year head coach Frank Lawrence said. “Olivia is the only girl not on our varsity last year. We recognized something special in her and her goal did not surprise me; it surprised her because she’s one of these kids who lacks a little self-confidence. We all knew she was going to do something special this year and tonight she proved us right. I have tremendous
confidence in her; she’s a really talented kid and is going to be a great player for us for several years. “To get a goal off a corner kick was awesome,” Thoresen said. “I think that was only our second of the year, that’s one of our biggest problems. To score off a corner kick in overtime is crazy.” “Thoresen plays with enormous heart and works unbelievably hard,” Lawrence said. “She got knocked down all night and just kept getting up and playing hard. She made the decision to move from forward to midfield to help the team and does whatever it takes to help this team win; she’s like a coach out on the field.” The game was an end-to-end, hardfought defensive struggle with both goalkeepers turning back the few real scoring opportunities either team had throughout the game. The Caseys outshot the Indians 11-to-7 with the goalkeepers making eight and 10 saves respectively. In the first half Toms River South had a chance to break the ice in the 26th minute when senior Forward Taylor Troutman found sophomore attacker Tori Babcock, whose torrid shot-on-goal was corralled by Casey keeper Jacqueline Robinson. A minute later, Thoresen had an excellent opportunity but was turned away by Indian keeper Taylor Dean and Correll had a goal disallowed on an off sides call with about five minutes left in the half. A minute into the second half, Dean picked off Thoresen’s cross to Correll just before Correll could make a play on the ball for a heads-up stop. Then in the 61st minute, Indians Samantha Bahr’s header off a Madison Kenny free kick was just wide to the right. Troutman got a shot on net off a Lauren Mendez pass in the 67th minute with Robinson making the save and Correll almost prevented overtime with under Continued on page 11

beat the keeper for her second goal of the contest. Carolan now sits in 14th in scoring in the state of New Jersey with 25 goals and 13 assists for 63 points.
“Our defense is playing on another level then what we’ve seen all season,” Gould said. “We’re finally clicking on all cylinders and playing on the same page. Shaemus (Ffrench) is a first-year varsity player as a junior and he plays almost every single minute of every game for me and is doing a fantastic job. Ryan Strang is the voice in the backline, he’s just an all-around leader and the backbone on of the defense; if I were it give a third captain out it would be to him.”
Coming into their semifinal matchup against reigning SCT champion and #1 seeded Freehold Boro, the #13 seeded Golden Eagles were making their first appearance into the SCT title picture. After a shaky start to the contest the Central Regional Golden Eagles lead by Senior goalkeeper Lindsey Mahnken and Sophmore defender Ashley DellaPietro and Senior defender Darian Lutz, shut down one of the top offensive powerhouses in Freehold Boro. Mahnken who finished the night with 10 saves, said “our defensive gameplan has been the same for the entire tournament, we have nothing to lose and everything to prove.”

Carolan twice in the second half took advantage of her speed and tenacious attack on offense to lead Central to victory. After a scoreless
first half, Carolan stole the ball in the 43rd minute from a Boro defender and quickly put the Golden Eagles up 1-0 by faking the keeper to her right and sliding the ball into the back of the net to her left. Only minutes later while Boro was still reeling from their earlier defensive miscues, they lost their focus yet again and put an ill-adviced ball across the middle of the field that Carolan intercepted and took off on another breakaway and

The Bulldogs will play No.1 seed Manalapan in the final, Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Neptune. “My first day on the job when I had 80 kids show up for a meeting I knew right then and there it was going to be a good time,” Gould said. “Then when we stepped on the field together for the first time it was just phenomenal. After we worked together for a few weeks I set some goals and they were the Shore Conference title and a state championship; we still have those goals.” Follow me @getmready
The Golden Eagles definitely made a loud statement so far in this tournament by knocking of #3 Holmdel and then #1 Freehold Boro. After consecutive winning seasons leading into the Shore Conference Tournament, Central once again got seeded low because of their strength of schedule. So far this season, the Golden Eagles have played with a sense of passion and belief that can be felt as they walk onto the field. Carolan summed it up perfectly when she said, “my team definitely is the underdog to many people watching this game, but use that as fuel and tonight we wanted it more.” Next up for the (16-1) Golden Eagles is a Championship contest against another constant Shore Conference powerhouse in Red Bank Catholic.

MANALAPAN BOYS HOLD OFF BULLDOGS TO WIN SHORE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT By Mike Ready
and Hammer was able to get around him a tap it in for the game winner in the 65th minute.
Neptune - The top-seeded Braves (17-2-1) came back from an early 1-0 deficit and fought off No.3 seed Rumson-Fair haven (16-2-1) in closing minutes to win its first Shore Conference Tournament title since 2006 and third in program history.
“Rocky played in a great ball, and the goalie came out on the play,” Hammer said. “I was able to get around him and just poked it in for the goal.”
The 2-1 win also represents one of the biggest turnarounds in Shore Conference history after the Braves rebounded from a 5-10-3 record just one season ago to win the tournament. “I have to attribute that a lot to the guys, they came in shape in August and were ready to go from the start,” Braves head coach John Natoli said. “They have jelled together tremendously. Not only are they teammates on the field, they are good friends off the field as well.” Rumson’s senior captain Pete Martin gave the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute and handed them some early momentum as well igniting a large and vocal Rumson contingent that packed the visitors stands at Memorial Field in Neptune.
Team work and together has brought the Manalapan Braves together and earned them the SCT Boys Soccer Championship Photo By: Eric Braun “We hadn’t let up a goal in the tournament until then, and I think when they scored, that turned on a switch and kind of knocked us into reality,” Braves junior forward Ryan Hammer said. “It was wake up time.” Hammer led the wakeup call, jump-starting the Braves as they took control of the game, putting up three shots before they finally broke through in the
23rd minute. Hammer caught up with a through-ball past the last line of defenders off the foot of junior midfielder Adam Weisberger and ran down the ball to beat Rumson keeper Chris Tierney into the lower left of the net. “The guys just showed a lot of character, being able to come back and get the win.” Natoli said. “It was the first time we
trailed in this tournament, and I’m proud of the way they were able to respond.” The Braves continued to attack over the next 40 minutes and took the lead on another through-ball to Hammer. Freshman Rocky Garreston, who scored the overtime goal in Thursday’s semifinal, pushed a pass to Hammer as Tierney came out on the play
Just as Manalapan responded to a one-goal deficit, the Bulldogs attempted to do the same. The Bulldogs put the pressure on the Braves in the final 10 minutes and had a good opportunity to tie the game when senior attacker Eamon Kitson drew a foul just inside the 18yard box to set up the potential tying penalty kick. However, Kitson struck the ball wide right of the post, leaving the Bulldogs still down by one and time running out. After the missed penalty kick the Bulldogs continued to pound the Braves net, with seniors Chris Drummond and Dell both missing on headers in the 75th minute and senior atContinued on page 13

A Diagnosis of Wrist Sprain: How serious is it? By Barbara Nagiewicz OTR/CHT
Most athletes have experienced it and high school athletes are no different. A throbbing pain in their wrist after sliding into 2nd base, a sharp pain after they’ve caught the ‘flying’ cheerleader during a stunt, or a chronic ache every time they have used their forehand in tennis. They will visit their team trainer and may be referred to an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports or hand injuries.
The wrist is a complicated. There are eight carpal bones lying between the five metacarpal bones of the hand and the radius and ulna bones of the forearm. The ligaments are strong bands of connective tissue that connect one bone to another; and provide stability between the bones while allowing movement between the rows of bones. Without good wrist ligamentous integrity, the wrist cannot provide enough stability to be able to move the hand effectively.
In medical diagnosis terms it will be classified as a wrist sprain. This classification covers anything from a stretch to the wrist ligaments – a grade 1 sprain; to a partially torn ligament with some loss of function, - a grade 2 sprain; to an outright tear of one or more of the ligaments possibly with an avulsion fracture where the ligament tears away from the bone taking a small bone chip with it – a grade 3 sprain.
But how serious is it? Generally we start with rest, ice, elevation, ibuprofen and perhaps an ace wrap. But what if that doesn’t take care of it? It is important to seek medical attention if pain and swelling continue beyond the first 48 hours. An orthopedist or hand surgeon will take x-rays and perform a clinical examination of both wrists. He or she will palpate the area of pain and will move the wrist to check for instability. Sometimes x-rays do help determine a ligament tear. The doctor will check to make sure that all eight wrist bones are in proper alignment and form three distinct arcs. He will make sure that there are no gaps between the bones such as when a gap opens up between the scaphoid and lunate with active finger gripping during an x-ray with an S-L ligament tear. He may order an MRI or Arthrogram if the x-ray is inconclusive.
www.ivyrehab.com
ing an injection of a dye into one, or all three of the distinct compartments of the wrist. If there is a ligament tear, the dye will escape from the compartment. Once the diagnosis is reached, the doctor will determine a course of treatment. Mild or grade 1 sprains may do well with a short course of immobilization in a wrist control or thumb spica splint. Gentle stretching exercises may be performed after a week or two; thermal modalities may also be used: heat prior to the exercise to help reduce stiffness, and cold after exercise to help reduce inflammation. The splint may be used off and on for several weeks for protection.
splint followed by an additional 4 weeks of intermittent splinting for protection. Hand therapy is begun when the cast is removed for gentle range of motion of the wrist and for edema control. Strengthening exercises begin after an additional 4 weeks. Depending on the injury and type of surgical repair, full range of motion following the procedure may not be attainable.
Grade 2 or partial ligament tears may be treated non-operatively with immobilization in a splint or cast full time for up to 8 weeks, followed by an additional 2-4 weeks intermittently. A short course of hand therapy will help to reduce stiffness, swelling and pain after the initial 8 weeks, and then be progressed to strengthening exercises to help decrease weakness and improve function.
In some cases following a chronic or repeated injury or with degenerative changes caused by arthritis, it may be necessary to perform more aggressive surgical correction. These surgeries include partial or full wrist fusions. The goal of a partial fusion is to eliminate pain and provide the wrist stability necessary to use the hand effectively. Following this surgery the patient will regain approximately 50% of wrist flexion/extension (moving hand up and down) but have full forearm rotation (ability to turn hand palm over to palm down). With a full wrist fusion the patient will lose all wrist flexion/extension but will be able to regain full forearm rotation.
Grade 3 or complete ligament tears usually require surgery. This may be performed as an open repair or arthroscopically. It may require pins or screws to be inserted to repair a bone chip as in the case of an avulsion fracture and in some cases suture anchors are inserted. It generally requires immobilization for 6-8 weeks in a cast or
With all of these procedures it is important for the patient to follow the instructions of the surgeon and therapist as well as perform all home exercises. It is only with a good team of patient, surgeon and therapist that an optimum result can be achieved and the patient can regain full use of his hand following his wrist sprain.

Freehold Boro Earns 1st Victory RED BANK CATHOLIC GIRLS SOCCER ADVANCE TO SHORE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT FINAL
By Jim Hintelmann FREEHOLD - Freehold football coach Dave Ellis had hopes of a good football season this year, but the Colonials have gotten off to a slow start by losing their first six games. Freehold, however, finally picked up its first win Friday night with a 3726 B Division North triumph over Red Bank Regional behind a fourtouchdown effort from Josh Dixon, who rushed for four touchdowns and gained 131 yards in 29 carries. “I expected us to get off to a better start this season,” Ellis admitted. “We have a good mixture of seniors and underclassmen, but I’m counting on improving with each game. Tonight we did that and played hard all four quarters.”

Red Bank (1-6), which was coming off a double overtime upset over Neptune the previous week, started off fast scoring on its’ first series with Xavier Chestnut racing 77-yards for a touchdown on Red Bank’s third play from scrimmage and a 7-0 lead.

Freehold cut the lead to 14-10 on a 30-yard field goal by Danny Parr and then went ahead, 16-14 on a 47-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jake Kurry, to Parr. Dixon scored on a 23-yard run to increase the lead to 23-14 just before halftime. But Red Bank went 65 yards in just three plays to close the deficit to 23-20 late in the third quarter on a 3-yard run by Trevor Riley. Kurry, though, answered with an 11-yard scoring pass to Glenn Bates for a 3020 advantage.

Shore Reg. Gears Up for Playoffs By Jim Hintelmann KEANSBURG -With the NJSIAA playoffs coming up in two weeks, Shore Regional football coach Mark Costantino appears to have his team on a roll after a 59-6 B Division Central rout of Keansburg Saturday. The Blue Devils dropped a 13-6 non-division decision to unbeaten Rumson in its’ second game of the season, but have since won five in a row and outscored its last four opponents 178-8. “Our goal is to be the No. 1 seed in the (Central Jersey Group I) playoffs,” said Shore coach Mark Costantino. “If we beat Keyport this Saturday, we’ll clinch the top spot.” Playing an inexperienced Keansburg team, Shore rolled up a 45-0 halftime lead with a balanced scoring attack. Keansburg hurt its cause with six fumbles in the half, four of which were recovered by the Blue Devils. “Keansburg has a young team with a new coach (Chris Damian),” said Costantino. “We made a couple of mistakes, but overall we played well. We’re in the stretch run and it would be good to get that top seed.” Shore quarterback Matt Muh played only the first half of the game, but still completed six of 10 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown. He also scored once himself. “Muh has been tremendous for us this season,” said Costantino. “Because of some bad weather and a couple of lopsided games early, he hasn’t thrown the ball that much. Since that Rumson game, which we could have won, we’ve turned it around and are playing well,” he said. “Our running back, Brian Miller, has done a great job and our defense is excellent.” Shore started off fast with two touchdowns in the first three minutes. Chris Francisco scored the first on a 2-yard run and Muh threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Nick Kessler for a 14-0 lead.
SHORE #80 COLE BARRALE Photo By: Fran Attardi Doug Goldsmith added a 3-yard touchdown run and Jake Monteiro, who sent seven of nine kickoffs into the end zone on the fly, added a 30-yard field goal for a 31-0 lead. Muh, who played football at Holmdel before transferring to Shore last year, scored on a 3-yard run, Miller had a 13-yard scoring run and Ryan Campi scored right before the half on a 7-yard fumble return. Keansbug (1-6), whose only win came over Highland Park, scored its lone touchdown in the third quarter when freshman Tyree Sutton picked up a Shore fumble and returned it 45 yards for the score. By that time however, Shore was playing its reserves. Alex Johnson closed out the scoring for Shore with an 11-yard run. Shore reached the finals of the CJ I playoffs last year, but lost a tough double overtime decision to Florence. Besides the playoffs, Shore is battling defending champion Point Pleasant Beach for the B Central title. If Shore beats Keyport, then it will play Point Beach for the title Nov. 27.

This is by far my favorite time of year as a Strength Coach for Football. My RBC Caseys are getting better each week and my Private clients are having an Impact on their Teams State playoff hopes. I am one lucky guy to have worked with such great kids representing 60% of the Shore Conferences Top Teams.

tacker Harry Gassert’s perfect cross in the final minute just missing heads as time ran out on the Bulldogs chances for their first Shore Conference Tournament title. “The first ten minutes we played our game and last ten minutes we played our game,” first year Bulldog head coach Will Gould said. “The middle part of the game we let them come up to us and didn’t play our game. We sat back and we played a little too defensive. We tried to come back at the end but just couldn’t finish; it’s a heartbreaker.” The Bulldogs are the No.2 seed in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II playoffs that begin on Tuesday. Manalapan’s defensive play in the game can’t be overlooked. Of the five senior starters on their roster, four of them – keeper Ethan Siegal, Chris Colen, Brian Dolan and Brandon Garcia- are on defense. “My back line has been playing well all year,” Natoli said. “Brian Dolan is a tre-
mendous player. Him and McNicolas (sophomore Mike) in back played a great game; they’ve been solid all year. Siegal’s been very strong all year and has worked very hard and he came up big in the tournament.” Including Saturday’s game, the Braves have giving up only 12 goals in 20 games for a 0.6 goals against/game average. Thirteen of those wins have come on shutouts. Natoli believes winning the Shore Conference Tournament can be harder than winning the state sectionals. “You have teams from all different groups playing in this tournament,” he said. “It’s always a nice feeling to be able to win this one.” “It’s an awesome feeling to be able to win this after the season we had last year,” said Hammer. ”Going from that and being able to come out and win the Shore Conference Tournament is unbelievable; but the job is still not done.”

Wall Coach Nancy Gross Wins 500th Game By Michael Rogers
The Wall girls’ field hockey team has a 17 win and 2-loss record this season and are ranked fourth in the Shore Conference. The Knights also had success in the Shore Conference Tournament reaching the semi finals of the tournament before coming up against the number one ranked Shore Blue Devils (17/0-1). Wall just couldn’t overcome the Blue Devils losing by the score of 3 to 0. The Knights have also helped head coach Nancy Gross reach a milestone this season. Their victory in the first round of the NJSIAA state tournament was
the coach’s 500th victory of her career. In her 43year career Gross has a career record of 500-205100. After the tough defeat against the Blue Devils, the Knights entered the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II Tournament as the number one seed in their bracket and recorded an easy 7 to 0 victory in their first round game against Monmouth Regional (513-1). In the game, Samantha Scire scored two goals and added two assists, while Bernadette Crehand also scored two
goals for the Knights. Sophie Lozowski, Nicole Kuerzi, and Nicolette Keale also each scored goals for Wall in the victory. Wall outshot Monmouth 41 to 0 in the game and now have out scored their opponents 104 to 9 in winning eleven of their last twelve games. Coach Gross will be looking for her 501st victory in Wall’s next game as they will face the winner of a first round NJSIAA state playoff game between Ewing and Delran. The Knights will play the winner of that game in a NJSIAA second round game on November 7th.

Manalapan Edges Ocean For Spot in SCT Final By Eric Braun
Neptune, NJ - Rocky Garretson found himself in the right place at the right time in the first overtime period in their semifinal contest between Manalapan and Ocean. With just over five minutes remaining in the first overtime, Garretson vollied in a loose ball to lead the Braves to Saturday nights Shore Conference Tournament Championship. With the victory there is guaranteed to be a new champion as Ocean was the reigning SCT Champion. After a scoreless first two periods of play it was the unsung freshman Garretson who would lead the #1 seeded Manalapan squad into the finals against Rumson Fair Haven. Ocean had their chance late in the game when the teams leading scorer stepped up to take a penalty kick with four minutes remaining in regulation, but the shot hit the post and came out. Ocean coach Tom Reilly said afterwards, “It’s a tough loss and tough way to go out.”

REDAELLI, CASEYS STREAK PAST MIDDLETOWN SOUTH By Mike Ready
RED BANK – Red Bank Catholic extended its Shore Conference winning streak to 31 straight games Friday night with a 41-13 dismantling of the Eagles in a non-divisional game at Count Basie Field. Senior running back Larry Redaelli continued his assault on Shore Conference defenses, rushing for 232 yards on 19 carries. His big night put him over the 1000-yard mark with 1156 yards on 103 rushing attempts, second in the Shore Conference. Redaelli, a third team All-Shore selection in 2012, leads the Shore in scoring with 22 touchdowns after Friday night’s four-touchdown performance.
ing on every single drive and just complete every single play the whole game; that’s the full potential that we can do.” The Caseys, who ended the 2012 season ranked No.1 in the Shore Conference and have held that spot the entire 2013 season, know what lies ahead for them when the NJSIAA Non-Public Group III playoffs begins in two weeks. A potential semifinal date with the consensus No.1-ranked team in the state, St. Joseph (Montvale) looms as their likely opponent.
Although Red Bank Catholic has outscored its opposition 336-36 and Friday night’s 28-point differential is the closest an opponent has gotten to beating the Caseys this season; Redaelli feels his team has not played to its full potential.
“We got to keep working hard and prepare for those big teams like St. Joe’s, Delbarton and Pope John,” Redaelli said. “A bunch of us went up to watch the St. Joe’s – Paramus Catholic game, to see what their all about; their strengths and weaknesses. So I guess we are looking down the road, but we have to stay sharp and not have that off game before the states.”
“We still haven’t played a complete game yet,” Redaelli said. “We have our good plays and bad plays but we just want to go through the whole game with the defense scoring touchdowns, us scor-

run down the left sideline to pull the Eagles to within 13 points, 20-7. Red Bank Catholic then dashed any hope of an Eagle comeback, converting a crucial third-and-10 from the Eagle 35-yard line into a Redaelli 35-yard touchdown scamper
“Larry’s very strong and has improved his speed,” head coach James Portela said. “We asked him to be a little more patient this year and he’s done a tremendous job at doing that. He’s not just plunging himself into the line as he did in the past. He waits to let the blocks develop and then gets that burst and he’s gone.”
ing untouched on the next play for a 34-7 advantage 10 seconds into the second half. In all, the Caseys picked off four passes on the night, including two by Cordova and one each by senior Christian Wagar and junior Nick Lubischer. Eagle quarterback Kyle Brey was continually harassed into rushing his throws by a relentless Casey pass rush led by linebackers Ryan Schoer and Frank Olmo and lineman Nelson, Kroeger, Wilen and McCord. “The secondary answered the bell,” Portela said. “They were very physical with their receivers trying to disrupt routes. We put in some new coverage’s we hadn’t played before and they met the challenge; they played very, very well.”
Redaelli, whose touchdowns were on runs of 7, 30, 35, and 89 yards, helped the Caseys get untracked with his first touchdown coming on a 7-yard burst to cap a 64yard opening game drive, in which he had five carries for 45 yards. The first quarter ended 7-0 with the Caseys on the Eagles 30-yard line. Facing thirdand-15 from the 32, Casey quarterback Pat Toomey’s pass intended for senior wideout Connor Smith was picked off by Eagle senior defensive back Andrew Wisialko, who out-jumped Smith for the ball on the goal line right at the front pylon. After a South punt, the Casey’s moved to the Eagles 35-yard line before sophomore quarterback Edward Hahn, alternating with Toomey, went 35 yards on an option play, taking it up the middle before breaking it down the right sidelines and diving into end zone to go

The point after was no good and the score remained 200. The Eagles got on the board on their ensuing possession, when senior running back Jeremy Concepcion set up his own one-yard touchdown with a nifty 68-yard
with under a minute remaining in the half for a 27-7 lead. The three-play drive was set up by Cordova’s 48-yard kickoff return to the 35-yard line, handing the Caseys excellent field position and the opportunity to put the game away. On the Eagles second play of the opening drive of the second half, Cordova put the icing on the cake, gathering in his second pick of the day at 50-yard line and returning it to the one-yard line and scor-
Redaelli capped off his and the Caseys night going 89-yards for their final score of the game with 35 seconds left in the third quarter for a 41-7 cushion. On the play, Redaelli raced around right end and went untouched all the way down the right sideline, showcasing his quickness and speed. Middletown South drove 80 yards late in the game, scoring on a Drew O’Connell fiveyard run as time expired. “Keeping these kids focused isn’t hard,” Portela said. “A lot of these kids played last year in the playoffs and they know what’s ahead for us. They know they need to be prepared by working hard and the younger guys work hard to challenge them. I think we’re going to be okay, we’ll see what happens. Follow me @getmready
