LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

What’s in a name? AT THE BOCA RATON, it’s about honoring our property’s

celebrated legacy while we continue to elevate our resort and private club to new levels of luxury and wonder. Names are woven into our sense of self, the communities we form, and new ones that have embraced us. Titles can also be touchpoints that bring back memories from years ago. That’s why when we decided to rebrand today’s property as The Boca Raton, we chose to go back in history to a familiar name, one coined about 70 years ago. As Susan Gillis of the Boca Raton Historical Society eloquently writes on page 76, our property had early ambitions of positively impacting the region—and we’re so proud and humbled that The Boca Raton continues to do just that. Today it

18 1926/The Boca Raton

lives as a nod to our predecessors and inspiration to today’s members and guests who are paving the way for an even more impressive era. And it’s our Club members that we are excited to continue to spotlight in this issue. Members such as Rebecca D’Emic, Dr. Nathan Nachlas, and Eddie Ventrice—who each give back to their communities in a heartfelt way—bring an earnest touch to impacting future generations. Read about how they are inspiring us beginning on page 42. In this issue, we also shine a light on the creativity of our chefs, led by Vice President of Culinary Operations Andrew Roenbeck. In his nearly 30-year career at The Boca Raton, Roenbeck has been known to evolve menus and concepts with one main diner in mind: you. As you will read on page 62, Roenbeck and the entire culinary team have been listening to dining requests for more plant-based options and took action by rethinking menus in a delicious way. The result? A new way to enjoy a meal. Prepare to be enchanted as you learn about our in-house floral and design team, Boca By Design, whose aweinspiring floral arrangements and event creations have set the scene for many a South Florida fête. True works of art, their floral designs redefine spaces, including tablescapes, as you will see on page 70. As we welcome you into another season at The Boca Raton, it is our pleasure to make your time with us a memorable one. Inspiration gleams in every corner of our 200-acre waterfront property, and most brilliantly within our community of Club members and resort guests who remain the heartbeat of The Boca Raton.

Only At The Boca Raton Your roundup of new and noteworthy features at The Boca Raton, including a Harbor House quiz show and how to prevail on the 16th hole

THE SECRET IS OUT A daytime escape hidden in a dreamy, intimate terrace, Cloister Courtyard is The Boca Raton’s newest foodie find. Within Cloister’s secluded courtyard walls, you’re invited to enjoy a healthy start to the day with a green juice, fruit smoothie, illy coffee, or a customizable yogurt parfait featuring Tom’s Perfect 10. Or, if the mood strikes for an afternoon indulgence, sip on an espresso, or a Bellini, or sample a cool creamy gelato.

TOM’S PERFECT 10 If you’re surprised that Tom Bannister ate granola last night at 10 p.m., then you don’t know him. The granola connoisseur and founder of Tom’s Perfect 10 has been crafting the ultimate granola recipe since 2020, when the advertising executive began spending more time in the kitchen with family during the pandemic. A selfproclaimed “granola purist,” Bannister began perfecting flavors and textures, like granola with ginger-infused Vermont maple syrup, which his wife, influencer Eva Chen, began posting on social media. Online feedback for the product was rampant, which gave Bannister confidence that other granola enthusiasts were out there waiting to taste perfection in the form of granola. As he began rolling the product out for public consumption, Bannister included a scorecard in each package, asking consumers to rate the creation in hopes of achieving a perfect 10. As he unveils his best granola flavors at Cloister Courtyard, Bannister talked with us to discuss what goes into crunchy perfection.

ICE, ICE, BABY How sweet it is with Aubi & Ramsa. Now available at Cloister Courtyard, Miami-based Aubi & Ramsa is a unique ice cream created in small batches with alcoholic beverages and spirits—and available in a wide variety of flavors, including Espresso Martini, Kentucky Crème Brûlée, and Strawberries & Rosé.

SWEET GOODNESS

Where did your love of granola come from? “I

have this big passion for granola. It’s something that would satisfy me at any point, maybe after a run or an exercise. Oftentimes, I get a granola when I’m traveling and at a hotel. Looking at the grocery store and even local markets, there weren’t spaces for really specialized granola, like for coffee and wines. So I decided to go fullthrottle into creating one.”

As families and friends gather during the holiday season, be sure to wrap them around sweetness from Maison Rose. The confectionary store features a menu of inspired cake designs, from whimsical to glamorous, all equipped to put an impressive cap to a holiday celebration. Choose from various flavor selections—like red velvet, chocolate, and carrot— and designs including a sea-inspired look or a fanciful theme topped with replica lollipops, cupcakes, and more. Orders are requested at least 72 hours before pickup time at MaisonRose@TheBocaRaton.com.

How did your kids become a part of Tom’s Perfect 10? “This whole thing happened when I had just become

a dad, and I was at home a little bit more during the pandemic. My children would become my little assistants, and it was oddly like a creative outlet for me. I could create flavors without inhibitions, like Black Forest- or Banoffee pie-flavored granola.”

How influential was social media in the creation?

“It started with me having strong opinions about granola, and going into the nuances of why this flavor worked. My wife started filming and putting it on Instagram. I would get stopped in the middle of the street in supermarkets about these clips. I definitely thought, ‘Isn’t it funny to treat granola in this way?’ But there was a nerve that we hit with the public.”

How did you create such a culinary hit, despite not having a culinary background? “When you’re a

novice at something, you don’t know the rules, and that allows you to be more creative and perhaps do stuff that others wouldn’t try. The actual process of making granola isn’t that hard, but the flavor development is more difficult. If you talked to my friends and parents, they would tell you about their shock to hear that I’m making food. I couldn’t have done it without that feedback loop, and all of those insights from people, and all of those DMs that I got—I’m talking about thousands of DMs.”

DRIVE TIME Yacht Club guests have exclusive access to the brand-new Aston Martin driving experience, thanks to a partnership with the world-renowned British car brand. Take the powerful DBX707 for a spin on a route of your choosing, or drive along the scenic coastal highway A1A. Not a guest at Yacht Club? No problem. Throughout the year, Aston Martinspecific events will be available for our Club members.

What goes into the making of a “perfect 10” granola? “You want at least three tastes that offer

multiple layers of flavors. There’s also the texture, which can add depth to the granola. And lastly, and this one is controversial among granola fans, keeping the cluster.”

What’s an unusual granola pairing that we should try? “Try our granola with some sparkling

wine. … It was such a highlight of the week: granola and Champagne. That fizzy sharpness of Champagne just pairs so nicely with granola. Imagine you’re on the veranda at The Boca Raton, watching the boats dock during the day, and you have your Champagne, slightly chilled, and looking out at the lake or the ocean. It’s that moment of relaxation: peace with a touch of decadence.”

HOT SHOT Zack Stanley, the director of golf, breaks down how to approach the championship golf course’s trickiest hole, the par-5 16th Hole. With five sets of tees to choose from, this par-5 can play anywhere from 420 to 530 yards. Walking up to the tee box can be intimidating, at least visually, in part because a large tree obstructs the right-hand side of the fairway, and a water hazard (penalty area) covers the left side of the hole from tee to green. In addition, there is a large bunker on the left-hand side of the fairway, plus the fairway slopes from right to left toward the water. Golfers who navigate off the tee are then left with a difficult decision: The water (penalty area) bisects the fairway, and golfers are tasked with either laying up short of the water (and giving themselves a 150-yard shot) or trying to carry the water and being rewarded with a short approach if the green is missed on the attempt. What awaits is a large, undulating putting surface, no easy task for even the most experienced player.

QUIZ SHOW Join members and guests for the fun, relaxed “Think to Drink” trivia night every week at Harbor House, where prizes are distributed to the top three teams. Ready to test your knowledge? HE MOMENT YOU STEP INSIDE Racquet Club, Lauren Levine wants to give you an experience. As the new director of racquet sports, Levine brings an energized perspective to the tennis and pickleball offerings at The Boca Raton—one she believes players will notice immediately. Most recently the manager of the Westchester Tennis Center in New York, Levine has embraced racquet sports as not just a business pursuit, but a personal one. The mother of four watched her youngest son rise through the rankings as a standout junior tennis player, and she found herself entrenched in the tennis world because of it. As a parent and supporter, Levine gained a wealth of knowledge of the ins and outs of tournaments, clubs, coaching styles, and more. She became so involved that she began a career in tennis management, first at Stadium Tennis Center in New York and then with the USTA. Her dedication to the sport and to creating memorable on-

and off-court experiences earned her recognition as the 2015 USTA Eastern Tournament Director of the Year. “What I did to get that award is what I do when I do a tournament or event: I deliver the best experience for the people who are coming, whether that’s a tournament player, spectator, parent, child, official, or anyone else,” Levine says. “Delivering a best-in-class experience is what’s really important to me.” Levine arrives at The Boca Raton during an exciting time. The sport of pickleball is continuing its meteoric rise in popularity, and Racquet Club’s offerings have reflected that, including the addition of even more dedicated pickleball courts. In addition, Levine has plans to enhance various areas of the property’s racquet sports, making this amenity a special one for members and guests. “It’s a privilege to work in a place that’s so steeped in history and reimagined for the future,” she says. “It’s about being a part of something that feels really important, and I’m excited to be a part of this atmosphere.”

FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME Matt Manasse, pickleball coach to the stars If you asked Matt Manasse who surprised him as a good pickleball player, he’d say movie star Emma Watson. “She’s very focused and is up early and ready to achieve,” Manasse says. Other good pickleballers that he has worked with are former professional football players Drew Brees and Golden Tate. (“They’re just really good athletes, and that translates well in pickleball,” Manasse says.) If anybody knows what makes an impressive pickleball player, it’s the former tennis player turned pickleball coach and ambassador. A tennis player since he was 5 years old who went on to play at the University of Southern California, Manasse picked up the game of pickleball during the pandemic. Since then, he’s traveled the world playing the sport and is now coaching the likes of Jamie Foxx, Matthew Perry, Kelly Rowland, Will Ferrell, and Dierks Bentley. These days, Manasse can be found hosting special clinics at The Boca Raton, fine-tuning players’ games and abilities. What about pickleball hooked you?

Inspired By It’s the season of giving, and for many of The Boca Raton Club members, that season is all year round. Here are three Club members who embody that principle in their personal lives and throughout their communities.

T STARTED WITH being a plus-one, and

then it turned into a mission. Rebecca D’Emic wasn’t sure what to expect when she attended a Place of Hope event with her friend four years ago, but she soon found herself moved to tears when hearing the emotional stories of the nonprofit’s work to better foster youths and families. Today, D’Emic, co-owner of the boutiques Elegant Child and Me and You Boca, has immersed herself into the organization’s Boca Raton campus, as president of its Angel Mom volunteer group, and co-chair of the Place of

Hope event—with the unwavering support of her husband, Paul D’Emic. D’Emic says she has encouraged her friends and fellow community members to participate, building a foundation for the next generation of supporters. “I genuinely love people and love to share good things,” she says. “And by getting myself and others involved in Place of Hope, we’re able to reach deeper within the community to gather more support.” In February, D’Emic created the organization’s first-of-its-kind pickleball tournament with the goal to raise $10,000. The organizers not only met the amount but surpassed it, earning almost $17,000 and reaching team capacity. In the fall, D’Emic spearheaded a fall fashion event for Place of Hope, with apparel and pieces supplied by her very own store, Elegant Child. It’s not the first time she and her mom, Corinne Barth, the store’s co-owner and original founder, have intertwined their boutique with Place of Hope. The pair routinely donate unsold clothing and shoes to the children and young adults living on campus at Place of Hope at the Leighan and David Rinker Campus in Boca Raton. The way she sees it, it’s the least this wife and mother of three can do for nearby youth in need. A native of Boca Raton and member of The Boca Raton’s Family Committee, D’Emic couldn’t imagine a better place to raise children than this area. “Being a member of the Club has allowed me to connect with faces at the pool, and get to know our community in a more personal way,” she says. Just as important, it’s allowed D’Emic to share her passion for Place of Hope’s mission. As she notes, if you see her at the pool or anywhere at the Club, please stop her to learn more about the nonprofit. www.placeof hoperinker.org or www.placeof hope.com

the night exactly. He, Eddie Ventrice, other philanthropic leaders, and members of The Boca Raton were sitting at The Flamingo Grill in February 2020, bouncing around the idea of how to create a gentlemen-targeted organization that raises funds for local charities. And they wanted to do it in a way that felt organic to them. That meant no black-tie parties and long-winded speeches, and a huge emphasis on a good time. And with those tenets, Men Giving Back was born in the halls of The Boca Raton. “The real thing behind Men Giving Back is fun,” says Ventrice, a private wealth manager and managing director at UBS. “A past charity event at The Boca Raton had bocce ball, darts, and other social games, which serves as inspiration for Men Giving Back’s annual Backyard Battle, an evening of fun sports and networking for the members. We’re all about how to merge fun with philanthropy.” Since that evening, the organization has given nearly $1 million to local charities with a focus on education, youth causes, food stability, and mental health services. Its spring 2023 meet-and-greet was held at The Boca Raton with guest speaker and FAU men’s basketball coach Dusty May, who spoke about his team’s proud Final Four appearance. Along with Ventrice, fellow co-founder Nachlas, a long-time area otolaryngologist, facial plastic surgeon, and president of ENT and Allergy Associates of Florida, believes Men Giving Back is also a chance to connect the organization with The Boca Raton, which includes several of the same members. “A lot of new Club members who just moved to the area are asking how they can give back and what philanthropic events are accessible. Men Giving Back is a natural way for new members to quickly connect with other like-minded men,” Nachlas says. www.mengivingback.org

WELLNESS will lead yogis into deep stretching to release tension and stress. Vinyasa Yoga Let’s go with the flow. Vinyasa Yoga emphasizes the sequential movement between postures, guided by deliberate breathing, and moving—or flowing—from pose to pose. Expect a fully balanced class of forward bending, twists, and backbends with opportunity for inversions.

Tai Chi An ancient Chinese tradition that promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements that are performed with intention, Tai Chi brings a slow, focused approach that is accompanied by deep breathing. Yoga Yogis of all experience levels are welcome to nama-stay for this engaging class. A systematic mind and body practice that combines physical postures, breathing techniques, and

relaxation, our yoga class involves movement, meditation, and mindfulness to promote mental and physical well-being. Power Yoga Come for the workout, and leave with new mental clarity. Using yoga’s guiding principles of mindfulness and breathwork, Power Yoga adds a fast-paced twist that’s full of dynamic cardio and strength-training sequences. Get ready to sculpt your body and mind.

Beach Yoga This practice is the perfect combination of connecting your mind and body with the soothing sound of waves. This class provides a calming yet energetic yoga practice with the scent of the beach, feeling of sand, and endless ocean views. Hatha Restorative Yoga Bringing the best of two worlds together, our Hatha Restorative Yoga builds upon restorative yoga by adding strength-building poses found in Hatha Yoga that

Spa Palmera Align and balance the body with the ancient practice of sound and vibrational therapy. Spa Palmera, the Forbes Five-Star, 50,000-square-foot wellness oasis, brings its modern touch to the art, allowing guests to feel grounded after even just one treatment within its luxurious spa. The Sound and Vibrational Therapy service showcases the powerful effects of sound therapy by pairing handmade Tibetan sound bowls with a vibrational sound massage that activates the healing responses of the central nervous system and balances neurotransmitters and hormones to bring your mind and body into a deep state of relaxation. Research has found sound to be a

50 1926/The Boca Raton

raw energy that moves every molecule it passes through. Trained therapists will reach deep down on a cellular level, the most inner part of our being that other conventional methods typically cannot touch. The result is deep relaxation that permeates our system. Within five minutes of this service, your mind will enter into a Theta mind state of deeply relaxed, inward focus, and will slowly transition into a Delta sleep state. Additional benefits of this treatment include clearing energetic blockages. The sound vibrations work to open, clear, and balance the chakras and release stuck energy. So go ahead— listen and feel the good vibrations.

Restorative Yoga Sometimes we just need to slow down. Restorative yoga is a passive, meditative form of yoga that allows you to focus on your breath while relieving stress and tension. Poses may be held longer using props like yoga blocks or bolsters. Zumba Turn the volume up. This danceinspired workout features high- and low-intensity intervals that help improve cardiovascular fitness while also enhancing balance, coordination, agility, and strength through the application of beginneraccessible choreography. And just like with most dance parties, the more, the merrier. *Classes are subject to change throughout the season

CHESAPEAKE FINANCIAL PLANNING & TAX SERVICES

“Women need to be involved in their financial plans and have an understanding of where all of their assets are, and what they are used for,” says Certified Financial Planner™ Elizabeth Bennett. As a woman who has reared a child, been through a divorce and is working toward her own financial future, she forges a relationship with her clients from her own personal experiences. “You need be in control of your finances and not leave that responsibility to someone else,” she cautions. “Knowing the types of investments that you have, the log-ins for your accounts, and sharing that information with your spouse is very important. Being involved in reviews with your financial advisor and understanding how to access those assets is imperative,” Bennett says. “Taking responsibility for your financial wellbeing, starting at a young age, is probably one of the best things you can do for yourself. You should take advantage of your employer’s retirement plan, understand what your short-term savings need to look like and what your assets’ tax implications are. Be aware of your spending habits and where all of your money is going, whether you are single or married. As women, we know the value of delegating. My advice is to take one thing off of your plate and reach out to an advisor to get your financial house in order with someone you can trust. I am here for you,” she says.

VACATION 56 1926/The Boca Raton

A weekend at The Boca Raton goes from Beachside to Harborside Pool Club, with fun for everyone BY NIL A DO SIMON

S

OON AFTER MY HUSBAND, Joshua, dismounted the FlowRider board, a rumor began spreading that he was a world-class surfer. In truth, it was entirely created by him and then advanced by my 6-year-old daughter, Fallyn, and 4-year-old son, Adrian, to their newfound Harborside Pool Club friends and every kid within earshot of that crew. As hyperbolic as it might sound that my husband—a one-time collegiate athlete whose current dependence on core-strength classes has become a recurring joke within our family—aced his first-ever FlowRider foray, it was not completely a lie. Truth is, you could say that Joshua did better than the average rookie. Despite never having surfed in his life, Joshua took to the rushing, near 40-mph FlowRider waves with determination. Mostly determination to not break his clavicle, but determination nonetheless. He couldn’t have been in better hands than with the FlowRider guides, who gave him point-by-point instructions and the overall comfort of knowing that the wave simulator is a fun, easy-to-enjoy experience. After receiving the basic guidance, like keeping more weight

58 1926/The Boca Raton

on the back foot, the instructor gave Joshua a reassuring smile and let him shred. And shred he did. In front of his biggest fans (his kids), and the group of elementary-age riders who were grouped in with him during this beginner session. As the oldest member of this group of riders by several decades, my husband proved that no matter your age, you should always have fun. FlowRider was one of the countless activities that awaited us outside our Tower guest room. Our family couldn’t have asked for a better location to set up our base camp, which included views that literally took my first-grader’s breath away. We checked into our room after working a long week, as the dusk hours overtook the Boca Raton skies. Upon entering our room, my daughter immediately became enamored by the sights of the soft twinkling city lights outside the panoramic windows of our 17th-floor guest room. “It’s so pretty,” she gushed as she looked outward to the ocean and Lake Boca Raton. The next morning, as the sun’s light filled our room and woke up our spirits, my daughter opened the curtains to see an even more impressive view. “It’s

even prettier in the morning,” she said as she gazed at the bobbing boats that began filling the lake and the turquoise-blue ocean waters that beckoned from Beachside. It didn’t hurt that Tower’s sophisticated, neutral palette of colors somehow amplified the unreal colors of the ocean and lake, allowing our family to feel hugged by a coastal atmosphere. The sun’s morning light kissed the ocean’s water just so that it glistened from all angles, a concept that my daughter said reminded her of a fairy tale that her grandma once read to her. We stopped by Tower’s second-floor lounge for its breakfast pastries spread, a welcome respite for families with kids like mine who have an on-demand mentality when it comes to food. The convenience of having fresh-made croissants and muffins waiting for us couldn’t be beaten. Also, a fully automated coffee machine churning specialty drink options was the icing on the cake for this mama. From there, the world was our oyster. Tower’s proximity to an array of amenities at The Boca Raton maximized our long weekend. The lounge chairs and private cabanas at Harborside Pool Club are an easy football throw away from Tower’s entry doors, and the marina’s pickup point for its water taxis Romeo, Tango, and Bravo, is just as close. We decided to start our day at Beachside, where ocean views from our

DINING AT HARBORSIDE POOL CLUB HARBOR HOUSE A no-reservations restaurant serving island-inspired meals, Harbor House brings an elevated touch to a casual setting. Chef-inspired creations include fresh seafood, salads, and seasonal main courses, all served with an impressive wine list. Wednesday evening features Trivia Night, and Thursday evenings have live entertainment. My menu pick: The roasted cauliflower. A whole head of cauliflower that can be shared or eaten as a main entrée, and served with an apple-curry spiced lemon yogurt. Kids’ pick : The tackle box ice cream sundae. Literally a tackle box filled with scoops of ice cream, and compartments overflowing with candies and sweets to add to your sundae. Or, in my son’s case, to eat on their own.

BURG ER BAR A quick lunch option for smashed burgers, hot dogs, fries, and more. My menu pick: The No. 2 cheese smashburger with onion rings Kids’ pick: Boca Whip. A vegan, dairy-free dessert of swirled fruity goodness, served in a cup or waffle cone

Tower room were just the prelude to our adventures. After a five-minute ride on Tango to Beachside, we were faced with one vacation dilemma: pool or beach first? After a round of Rock, Paper, Scissors determined our destination (Adrian won), we made our way to the golden beach, where sand castles, seashell excavation, and a refreshing dip into the cool ocean waters became our agenda. All that hard work on vacation built up our appetites, so we couldn’t have been happier to recharge our batteries than with lunch at Marisol. The restaurant overlooks the ocean waters and is known for its seaside bites, Mediterranean-inspired dishes, and refreshing cocktails. It was the sampling of hummus that won me over. Served with lavash and naan, the hummus had a touch of lemon juice that sparked my palate for more Mediterranean flavors, like the skewers of swordfish that I ordered for my main course. Like all good vacationers, our family made time to decompress. Our Tower guest room served that purpose with ease and elegance. After a well-deserved nap, we were off for more waterside adventures, this time at Harborside Pool Club. Setting up camp at the pool club was an easy decision, where a 450-foot floating river, three

pools (including a zero-entry one), a pirate ship, and FlowRider became our priorities. Even more, two new poolside amenities became highlights of our trip. The recent additions of Harbor House restaurant and Burger Bar added ease to our vacation as our little ones’ waning energy levels dipped during the day. Next door to each other, Harbor House and Burger Bar were easy solutions to the question “What do you want to eat?” Burger Bar became the de facto choice for convenient curly French fries, while Harbor House served as a casual way to experience elevated island-inspired cuisine, like fish tacos and freshly caught seafood. It’s easy to look back at our recent stay at Tower and The Boca Raton through my own eyes and with my own perspective. But as I write this story, I found it more fun to look at our experience through my children’s vantage points. The ways their eyes lit up as they were handed a waffle cone with a massive amount of Boca Whip dessert swirled on top, or how they fearlessly leaped into every pool with no inhibitions, knowing daddy would always be there to catch them. It was magical. And perhaps this is why we do it. Partly for us, but mostly for them. And entirely for family.

Going Green A WORLD OF FL AVOR

The Boca Raton offers a wide range of plant-based culinary options for discerning palates BY NIL A DO SIMON

HEF ANDREW ROENBECK says the true display of a chef’s skill might be a surprising one. “Sure, any chef can make a great roasted chicken, but try to make seven different vegetable-centric options that could stand alone as someone’s entrée. “That,” he emphasizes, “takes skill.” The Boca Raton’s vice president of culinary operations and group executive chef would know. Throughout his entire career, Roenbeck says it’s been common for chefs to find it challenging to create vegetable-based dishes that not only shine, but can take center stage as a main dish. By using a protein—say, beef or chicken or another meat— what’s naturally available is the umami factor, or a basic taste that ignites a savory sensation. To achieve that same satisfaction with a non-meat dish, which can lack umami, is to achieve a deeper level of culinary skill. Thankfully, the chefs at The Boca Raton were primed for the challenge. After noticing recent patterns of more and more guests selecting vegetable-based meals, Roenbeck and the entire culinary team opened their menus to incorporate more plant-based options. They even noticed that some diners chose restaurants based on the quality and complexity of vegetable-centric selections. Roenbeck knew retooling the property’s menus would be the right move to satisfy today’s appetites. “We reacted to what we heard and to what the market was telling us,” says Roenbeck, referencing the nationwide rise in plant-based cuisine offered in restaurants, with statistics indicating a 62 percent increase in the presence of plant-based alternatives on menus since 2012. Be it a food allergy, preference, or another factor, responding to this trend was important to the culinary team. Harbor House, for instance, has an entire section of its menu devoted to vegetarian dishes. And it is not just side dishes, either; the Harbor House menu of plant-based options is front and center on the menu. Flybridge, the exclusive restaurant at Yacht Club, has a coursed menu completely devoted to seasonal vegetables. “We place great value on pure and unadulterated taste,” says Peter Annewanter, the executive chef of Flybridge. “For all of our menus, we make a concerted effort to have a vegetarian section,” Roenbeck says. “But that doesn’t mean this section is only for vegetarians; it has to appeal to everybody. Someone might see something in that section and say, ‘I’m not a vegetarian, but I would love to eat it.’”

64 1926/The Boca Raton

Above left, Harbor House cuisine; Flybridge cuisine

Roenbeck also says that The Boca Raton adjusted its menus for other dietary needs. He noticed more inclination among restaurant-goers seeking customization when requesting gluten- or dairy-free dishes. When ordering coffee, for example, a plethora of dairy-based and non-dairy milk options—like oat, soy, and almond—are available at The Boca Raton. At the end of the day, Roenbeck has members and guests to thank for continuing to expand and challenge the culinary team’s skills. “Our guests are well-traveled and well-read,” he says. “And they are coming to our restaurants with more knowledge. The days are gone when chefs would say, ‘This is how this dish is supposed to be, so take it like it is and no substitutions.’ Guests are making us better in the kitchen, and for that, we’re grateful.”

Harborside THE FLAMINGO GRILL Major Food Group puts a fresh spin on the classic American steakhouse—with a little tropical nuance—to create a memorable experience at The Flamingo Grill, which includes servers dressed in pink tuxedo jackets. The experience is glamorous and playful, with an upscale Havana-meets-1930s-New York vibe.

The possibility of playing a bocce game under the stars at the outdoor courts.

F LY B R I D G E Exclusive to Club members and guests of Yacht Club where it is located, Flybridge is a fine dining concept that features two menus: one that is seafood-focused with the option of a meat dish, and the second menu that is purely vegetarian, with the choice to switch between the menus.

MB SUPPER CLUB

SADELLE’S

This intimate dining enclave in Cloister is an ode to a traditional supper club—complete with over-the-top classics like lobster thermador and beef Wellington—and the kind of moodlighting torch singers love. MB also offers great live entertainment and carefully curated cocktails.

Sadelle’s is a quintessential New York City upscale deli experience in Cloister dreamed up by Major Food Group that serves breakfast and brunch in a garden-style setting, with a touch of glamor. Sadelle’s is known for its made-in-house bagels, challah French toast, and the LEO omelette, which features farm-fresh Florida eggs, sautéed onions, and house-cured lox.

This vibrant social setting within Cloister is a celebration of lounge life in a sophisticated venue that embraces the building’s original Spanish Colonial-style architecture—but is wide-open and airy with a dramatic central bar and big water views. With its savory and

Jonathan Feiler, beverage director SOMMELIER JONATHAN FEILER brings his vast knowledge of beverage options to The Boca Raton, thanks to his love of wine and experiences at some of the top restaurants in the nation. Here, Feiler reveals his beverage philosophy and how that will impact diners.

Why are beverages so important in our dining culture? “They allow us to have that 4D experience. For example, everybody has a grappa story. I have had countless conversations with people who ask for my recommendation on grappa, because nothing compares to that one time they sipped grappa while traveling in Italy. So, for me, it’s about bringing back that memory and others like that while at The Boca Raton. That’s a powerful memory— and I want to give them that experience again.”

Jonathan Feiler

How do you look to drive the beverage program at The Boca Raton? “There are 15 different dining concepts and additional food and beverage shops, and they each have their own identity. My goal is to respect those identities and lean into them even more. For example, when someone dines at Principessa Ristorante, they know that’s the spot to find the best Italian wines possible. Same idea with Japanese Bocce Club; I want that to be a place where you feel confident that you’ll find the best Japanese whiskies available.” What makes the beverage program special at The Boca Raton? “Our approach is to look at each experience from the guest and member’s eyes. We try to pick up on what they are drinking. And conversely, what they aren’t drinking. And why? The more informed we are, the better we are able to select beverages that make sense for our guests.”

Moët Twilight Toast Introducing the Yacht Club Champagne Terrace, featuring Moët & Chandon. Steps above the marina on Yacht Club’s lush terrace, the new outdoor lounge and bar will be unveiled this winter with sweeping views of the Intracoastal. Exclusive to members of The Boca Raton Club and guests of Yacht Club, the evening respite invites you to indulge in a twilight toast with Moët Ice Impérial Champagne and creative cocktails— for a twinkling transition from day to evening. Gather with friends as you relax for decadent sips, light bites, and cool breezes.

Principessa Classic Veal Milanese

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about your culinary style? “I love being in the dining room, touching the tables, and working with the captains... I have a philosophy: Every aspect of dining is high level, from the front to the back of the house, and I love the challenge of ensuring perfect service from the moment a guest walks into the room.”

Chef Will Cox

In Good Taste Chef Will Cox, executive chef, signature dining WHEN CHEF WILL COX arrived at The Boca Raton to start a new chapter in his culinary career, he came with an open mind. “Admittedly, I didn’t know much about The Boca Raton other than its name and prestige,” he says. “I found out quickly that it’s the heartbeat of the city.” After forging a career of culinary prestige in New York City’s finest restaurants, Cox was ready for a new challenge, one that would see him collaborate with Chef Andrew Roenbeck, the director of culinary operations, and Major Food Group to produce signature restaurants throughout The Boca Raton. Formerly helming the Major Food Group kitchens of The Grill, The Pool, Carbone, and ZZ’s Club, Cox’s years with the restaurant organization have refined his unparalleled desire to achieve excellence, an attribute he brings to his current role at The Boca Raton, where he oversees The Flamingo Grill, Japanese Bocce Club, Sadelle’s, and Principessa Ristorante. In making his move to Florida, Cox saw an opportunity to be at the beginning of something impressive at The Boca Raton—to, as he said, “Get my DNA and fingerprints on it, and make an impression right as the property is rebranded into what it is today.” Find out how this culinary professional is looking to impact dining, one meal at a time.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten when it comes to cooking? “It’s all trial and error. I’ve made every damn mistake in the world in culinary, but I’ve learned from it. I’ve learned this from great chefs, like Eric Ripert when I was at Le Bernardin, and they don’t hide their mistakes. They show people their errors, and correct it.” From a culinary point of view, how do you keep challenging yourself ? “This job is constantly a challenge. People are vocal about what they like and don’t like. We get honest feedback. The payoff is that we get to up our game. Here, the feedback is constant, and that’s an advantage. Because we work with such a great team of like-minded professionals, it’s a chance for all of us to get better.” What are your future plans within the signature restaurants? “Keep the party going. I joke with the proprietors of Major Food Group, telling them, ‘You better look out: The best restaurants in Major Food Group are going to be in Boca Raton.’ And, I truly believe that. Everybody at The Boca Raton is passionate. And it really shows. When it all clicks, it’s hard to describe the synergy.”

Boca By Design The Boca Raton’s in-house design and f loral professionals create magical custom events BY NIL A DO SIMON

S

INCE ITS BEGINNING DAYS in 1996,

event design company Boca By Design has been wowing guests and Club members (who are in the know) with its boundary-less creativity. Conjuring up memorable events and experiences has not only become second nature to Boca By Design, it’s been a heartfelt journey. From transforming a private home on Hillsboro Mile into a dreamy setting fit for a daughter’s special wedding rehearsal dinner to decking out a college-bound teen’s bedroom in full university regalia, The Boca Raton’s in-house event and design team has been shifting personal moments into lifelong memories, thanks to its dedication to detail and a customized approach with each project. This season, Boca By Design is receiving its own transformation. After nearly 30 years in business, which saw the company add professional floral design over the years, the brand is unveiling a new look and renewed focus that embodies the event planning services’ imaginative and collaborative spirit. Added services include smaller, curated lifestyle events at the home, as well as designing social events and tablescaping. While all tablescapes are unique, Lisa Coccoli of Boca By Design says some successful designs have included table chargers, which “add a nice accent to the table.” In addition, Coccoli says, “we like to incorporate a color pop on the table, like a purple or a pink in a goblet, to give a different element,” depending on whether

GREEN THUMBS The Boca By Design team is proud to provide year-round service to clients, including maintaining the beauty of potted plants. From orchids to ficuses to ferns, the team is equipped with the green thumbs to provide at-home maintenance, as well as at-home flower delivery. The service comes especially handy when clients are not consistently at their South Florida homes or if their thumbs are a little more black than the professionals at Boca By Design.

it’s a Thanksgiving dinner, a seder meal, or Christmas gathering. Even flatware styles, whether they are modern and trendy or more traditional, can enhance a holiday tablescape. Other concepts that Coccoli and her team have used include live garlands that flow from the floor of one side of the table to the other side. Soft lighting with candles can make the table feel like home, she says. And the one grand design that Boca By Design enjoys incorporating into a tablescape is perhaps the one element that’s not even on the table. “We like to incorporate things above people’s heads, especially outdoors,” she says. “We have worked with arches or altars that allow the table to be framed. It feels more exclusive, particularly when outdoors.”

74 1926/The Boca Raton

Coccoli emphasizes that design should not solely be confined to the table during a holiday event. Her team has been known to embellish a railing or staircase, in the front driveway or front entrance, and around a fireplace with wreaths, lighting, and other design elements. It’s these personal touches that can make a house a home—and a holiday dinner unforgettable. With an array of services available, including event design, catering, and rentals, Coccoli says nothing about the group’s work is cookie-cutter. “Our design professionals come into a home to do an initial design consult,” she says. “It’s very customized, and therefore really memorable. People say they remember the design forever.”

HOLIDAY SERVICES Whether you are planning an at-home holiday celebration for two or 200 guests, Boca By Design’s dedicated team is prepared to transform your home into a festive ambience. Be wowed as the design professionals take your concept and bring it to life inside your home through a wonderland of year-round holiday festivities for you, your family, and guests to enjoy.

WHAT’S IN A NAME? Over its storied history, The Boca Raton has had several different lives BY SUSAN GILLIS

I

N 1925, ARCHITECT ADDISON MIZNER, responsible for

the remarkable metamorphosis of Palm Beach from Cape Cod to Mediterranean Revival style, decided to try his hand at the favorite hobby of the day: real estate development. Along with his roguish brother Wilson and impressive client backers with names like duPont and Vanderbilt, Mizner Development Corporation was born. Its project: the complete transformation of a tiny farming village on the coast in southern Palm Beach County known as “Boca Raton.” Mizner’s ambitious plans for the “Dream City of the Western World” included mansions, villas, shopping centers, theaters, a “cabaret ship,” golf courses, yacht club, an airport, and more. Of course, he needed a hotel. The “Castillo del Rey” was to be a thousand-room hotel, “the world’s most complete and artistic hostelry.” Soon thereafter, Ritz-Carlton Hotels took over the hotel project, using Mizner and architectural firm Warren and Wetmore, designers of Grand Central Terminal, for the interiors. This meant a delay in construction—in fact, it was never built. Meanwhile, Mizner realized he needed a hotel to house prospective land investors; Boca Raton didn’t even boast a boarding house at the time. The result was the 100-room “Cloister Inn,” which opened on the western shore of Lake Boca Raton in February of 1926. The new hotel’s first brochure advertised it as the “Ritz Carlton Cloister.”

78 1926/The Boca Raton

Despite opening to rave reviews, the Cloister Inn would only operate for a few months in early 1926 and again in 1927. The Florida land boom was going bust, although few in the midst of the “era of wonderful nonsense,” as some have called it, realized it. Most of Mizner’s plans for what he called “the world’s greatest resort” did not materialize. By July of 1927, the Mizner Development Corporation (MDC) was bankrupt—along with almost every other developer in southern Florida. The Florida East Coast Railway’s embargo on building supplies, bad publicity, and the 1926 Miami hurricane all contributed to the demise of the boom—and worse was to follow. Mizner investor Clarence Geist, a Philadelphia utilities magnate, and part-time Palm Beach snowbird, managed to acquire the assets of Mizner’s Boca Raton project for $72,000 in November of 1927. This included millions of dollars of property,

including a beachfront that nobody wanted. Geist optimistically believed that the economy would revive; unfortunately, he was incorrect. Geist was an avid golfer; he already owned a summertime golf resort called “Seaview” in New Jersey. He needed a wintertime golf resort to go with it. The major asset of the MDC property was the Cloister Inn. Despite the fact that the Cloister boasted three golf courses, Geist had two new courses built and hired New York architects Schultze and Weaver to triple the size of the Cloister Inn. Schultze and Weaver were responsible for the Breakers in Palm Beach and the Biltmore in Coral Gables. In addition, Geist hired Palm Beach designer Ohan S. Berberyan to redecorate what was the rather stark, almost medieval look of the Cloister into a more luxurious, comfortable palace of about 400 rooms. The new hotel opened as “The Boca

Raton Club” officially in January of 1930. The Club in these years prided itself on its privacy. Few tourists coming down the coast had any idea what lay beyond the towers visible from the road. The Club’s postcards from that era identified it as “Near Delray Beach” since nobody knew where Boca Raton was at the time. It functioned technically as a club, with only members and their guests allowed. Unlike the swanky Palm Beach hotels, there was no publicity about its social activities or guests. New York Daily News reporter Nancy Randolph referred to it as a “snorty resort,” and “harder to crash than the gate at Tuxedo Park.” This made it a very desirable destination for people who eschewed the limelight. Geist passed away in 1938; the Club never turned a profit, and the Great Depression meant he had subsidized the hotel’s operation throughout the decade.

Florence Geist continued to run the Club after her husband’s death. By 1942, America had entered WWII, and Boca Raton was chosen as the site for a new Army Air Force base. The Club was leased by the military to house initial operations while the base was built west of Dixie Highway. The Tampa Tribune reported, “Army to Lease Swanky Resort on East Coast.” It was, indeed, glamorous—at least for a while. A beautiful tropical setting with colorful bougainvillea climbing the hotel’s walls surrounded the soldiers, who came quite literally from all over the U.S. The Garden Pool and golf courses became training areas, and the antique furniture and carpets were packed away to prevent damage from the thousands of young soldiers. Curiously, the hotel did not receive a new name, unlike the Breakers in Palm Beach, which became Ream General Hospital for the duration.

In 1944, hotelier J. Myer Schine purchased the hotel, and the military prepared to evacuate the premises. Despite the difficulties of wartime travel due to restrictions and rationing, the Club, now fully a hotel, reopened for guests in January of 1945. Schine would go on to make many changes to the club, as it began morphing from a seasonal, social hotel opened a few months a year to a full-time convention-oriented site. This meant air conditioning and new additions, including dividing the one-time Mizner Dining Room in half horizontally. During Schine’s tenure, the hotel was painted its famous pink color, as most of Schine’s hotels were pink. This happened in roughly 1950. In sharp contrast to Geist’s era, Schine’s publicity machine employed several names for the hotel and cranked out many advertising brochures, postcards, and full-page newspaper ads. Even before the hotel reopened in 1945, Schine’s publicists paid for an ad in the November 20, 1944, issue of Newsweek. It declared “The Boca Raton” to be “Florida’s Secret Paradise,” formerly a private club now open to a “discriminating clientele.” But they also advertised “The Boca Raton Club” as “America’s finest winter resort hotel” in a 1948 ad and “The Boca Raton Hotel and Club” in 1950, perhaps covering all fronts. Postcards from this era proclaimed it “this fabulous Paradise of the Western World.” In 1956, Arthur Vining Davis, one of the wealthiest men in the world, purchased the hotel and a great deal of Boca Raton property. His Arvida development agency (drawn from the first letters of his name) became one of the most successful real estate firms in U.S. history. Arvida would operate the hotel for many years as the Boca Raton Hotel and Club. Advertising for the hotel was, unlike the Schine era, wrapped into Arvida’s aggressive drive to build more and better gated communities in the rapidly expanding city of Boca Raton; the hotel was just one of the many projects Arvida was selling. In the late 1960s, Arvida added the 26-floor tower to the complex, and a new convention center where Harborside Pool Club is today; he also extended the seawalls to accommodate yachts and charter boats on the lakefront. Formerly openair areas were filled in to add much-needed space to what was now a fully convention-oriented hotel. Marketing materials, trying to reach a younger audience, sometimes referred to “The Boca” in their literature. In 1980, Arvida completed the $20 million Boca Beach Club on the site of the never-built Castillo del Rey. The new hotel replaced the aging and aptly named Cabana Club, which comprised a pool, dining room, and cabanas overlooking the ocean at Via Cabana on A1A south of the inlet. Today the Addison Condos stand there. The Beach Club was to be a “social hotel,” according to manager Scott Morrison. It had 212 rooms

and 142 oceanfront cabanas on a beautiful oceanfront setting and naturally, at the time, eclipsed the aging historic structure in terms of marketing. VMS Realty Partners acquired the hotel in 1983, which began a number of improvements to the property. In the mid-1980s, 100,000 new hotel rooms were built in Florida, and even “The Hotel” in Boca Raton started experiencing serious competition. As a result, management launched an ambitious rebranding effort in order to attract younger patrons. The hotel was renamed “Boca Raton Resort & Club.” Note the ampersand—not the word “and”—which became an important feature of this new brand. The idea behind this was to sell not only the historic hotel, the tower, and the new beach club, but many amenities like the renovated tennis courts, golf course, and newly acquired Boca Golf and Tennis Club, which acted as the hotel’s country club. Before, the

hotel’s publicity featured an image with the catchphrase “Quite Simply the Best.” New marketing strategies included not just photos of architectural features but images of patrons enjoying the facilities with the slogan “the elegant place to play.” In 1993, the Boca Raton Hotel and Club Limited Management acquired the resort and began major improvements, such as the addition of the new Tennis and Fitness Center and the start of a huge new convention center. H. Wayne Huizenga, a well-known local entrepreneur and owner of the three South Florida professional sports teams, acquired the resort in 1997. In 1998, the Mizner Center opened with four ballrooms and 80,000 square feet of space. It would become the go-to venue for all sorts of community events as well as convention patrons. In 2001, Spa Palazzo brought luxurious new services to the hotel, and in 2002, Yacht Club added 112 rooms and suites to the complex.

In 2004, the Blackstone Group purchased the hotel, and LXR Luxury Resorts became managers of the site. LXR made major changes to older parts of the hotel, including the addition of Palm Court and new restaurants. But its major focus was a complete overhaul of the Boca Beach Club, which reopened in 2009. MSD partners became the newest owners of the hotel in 2019, in the midst of the worldwide pandemic. The new owners took advantage of the downtime to complete more major renovations of Tower and Cloister portions of the hotel in addition to the landscaping and exterior venues beginning in 2021. They also painted Cloister a coastal white—the first time since the late 1940s it had been so. In honor of the major changes, they launched a name change. The Boca Raton Resort & Club would become “The Boca Raton”—ironically, the very name long-ago owner Mr. Schine had used.

REAL WEDDING

P

ERHAPS IT WAS THE CELEBRATORY

DESSERT toast with Perrier-Jouët sorbet. Or maybe it was when bride Caroline followed her groom Darian and leapt into the waiting arms of groomsmen and guests, who lifted her in her KYHA white tulle skirt and Mikado top for crowd-surfing fun at the reception. Either way, the Alter wedding was not a typical fête, nor was the couple a typical pair. So when the Philadelphia-based twosome began looking for venues to host their January 2023 nuptials, they wanted to work with a wedding team that would reflect their modern personalities—but in a setting that felt like home. For these free spirits, it could have only been at The Boca Raton. A member of the Club since birth, Darian often accompanied his father, Dennis, to the property, learning how to golf and play tennis here. He even lived in the resort for a period after his family’s Hillsboro Beach home was hit by a hurricane. After he fell in love with his bride while both attended Wake Forest University, Darian wanted to share his love of The Boca Raton with Caroline, a native of the Washington, D.C. area. Though they often visited the property from their Northeast home, it was during the COVID-19 pandemic that their connection to the 200-acre destination began to blossom not just as individuals, but as a couple. “During COVID, we spent about seven months in Florida during the winter months,” says Darian, a sports operations analyst at Barstool Sportsbook. “I taught Caroline how to play golf at The Boca Raton. It’s become a special place to us as a couple because I made new memories and routines here with Caroline. So for our wedding, we wanted our friends and family to see how special it is and why we spend five days a week there whenever we’re in town.” For Caroline, who has also come to love

playing tennis at Racquet Club, the comfort of having her wedding at The Boca Raton felt like a warm, weekend-long hug. “It really hit me during the wedding weekend how wonderful it was to be here,” says Caroline, a copywriter at Havas Creative. “To plan a wedding, it’s so stressful. But to see all the surrounding familiarity was special. To be in a place that you’re so familiar with, you’re never lost.” Along with wedding planner Jason Mitchell Kahn and The Boca Raton team, Darian and Caroline began designing a wedding that would lean into a Florida vibe and this specific moment in time. Throughout the weekend, pink dotted the scene, a nod to the state’s native flamingos and the iconic Tower’s hue. In front of nearly 200 friends and family members, the two shared their vows within the privacy of the Spanish Terrace. A string quartet’s gentle sounds wafted as the couple and

wedding party walked down the aisle. After Darian’s sister, poet Julia C. Alter, officiated their wedding and shared an original poem with the crowd, the two promised “to always be good and always be silly” with each other. For the reception, the pair welcomed their guests inside the Cathedral ballroom, where rows of white-clothed, banquet-styled tables, subtle floral arrangements, and decadent food stations awaited. The Floribbean-inspired menu included a welcome drink of pineapple-infused rum, local seafood, freshly made paella, and a fire station filled with massive skewers of grilled meats over an open fire. “The drama of these massive skewers being carved was a vision that I’ll never forget,” Caroline says. “For our guests, you’re on vacation, and the scene really reflected that: huge skewers, fire station, and really exciting food.” Dessert by the pastry team included a Key lime wedding cake with coconut filling. The cake “was amazing,” Caroline says. “I knew I wanted that old-fashioned, cartoonish look, and it was stunning, fun, and so impressive.” The Miami Project provided feel-good vibes throughout the night, while the crowd danced the night away. As a nod to their Philadelphia abodes, the couple requested an inspired treat based on Chickie’s & Pete’s famous crinkle-cut French fries with a blend of spices. The catering team didn’t disappoint, with Philadelphiabased guests raving over how the replica was as good as the original.

86 1926/The Boca Raton

“The Boca Raton was absolutely willing to hear everything we said, and did their best to make it happen,” Caroline says. “In terms of special requests, we were not given a generic playlist that we could only select from. Instead, we were able to come up with our own ideas, and the team made it happen.” The day after the wedding, the newlyweds welcomed guests to a private brunch at Sadelle’s with a food station filled with the restaurant’s famous bagels, lox, and more. Before Caroline and Darian jetted off to a honeymoon in Australia, they spent one last moment with friends and family at Harborside Pool Club. The remaining guests and the couple lounged at a poolside cabana and cheered on their Philadelphia Eagles as they won the 2023 NFC Championship game. As the couple puts it, they couldn’t have imagined a better way to end a magical wedding weekend.

Jonathan G. Postma Broker Coldwell Banker Jonathan Postma had an early appreciation for the finer things in life, growing up with a family in the yacht industry. His own business mind, cultivated at George Washington University, led him to the residential real estate profession with the reality that not everyone needs a yacht, but everyone needs a place to call home. “I have set up a team at Coldwell Banker to accommodate any kind of client regardless of their needs, from condos to waterfront mansions, though luxury resort/ waterfront properties are my forte,” says Postma, whose office is strategically located at The Boca Raton. “If you drew a 10-mile radius circle around the resort, I handle all of those properties, including golf communities and oceanfront, however my team covers everything from Palm Beach to South Beach,” he explains. “My clients know that I am ‘in the know’ whether providing information about the best restaurants, club memberships and the best school districts for their kids to attend. I have clients that I have sold over a dozen homes to, whether upsizing, downsizing, or adding vacation homes to their portfolios. I enjoy the repeat business and the trust my clients have in me. Anyone can sell you a home. I make it a point to be an authority on placing personalities with lifestyles,” Postma says. “I find out what makes the client tick and I match them with a home that suits their needs and dreams.”

Bonnie Heatzig Executive Director of Luxury Sales Douglas Elliman As an award-winning authority on waterfront luxury real estate for more than 20 years, Bonnie Heatzig has mastered an ultra-specialized niche working with high-net-worth clients. “My profession fosters high expectations for performance and results at every turn. The competition is fierce, and there is no margin for forgiveness with a very demanding clientele,” says the turbo-charged powerhouse. “That’s where I step in, and that is where I shine.” At Douglas Elliman, Heatzig shines brightly among the highest ranked agents nationwide. Being a licensed Florida attorney also gives her clients the edge in negotiations and drafting solutions to make sure they win the bid. “My clients have 100-percent confidence in my integrity and ability to get the deal done at the highest standard,” she says. As the lead sales director at Boca Beach Residences and executive director of luxury sales at Douglas Elliman, Heatzig started giving guided tours of waterfront properties by boat to provide an open-air, safe environment for her clients and to keep up with the demand during COVID. Since selling out Boca Beach Residences, Heatzig continues to roll out the highest echelon of services, giving her clients the most informative tours of luxury waterfront homes, sharing the inside track on different waterfront neighborhoods and luxury condominiums, and showing them firsthand comparisons for eager buyers looking to own a piece of paradise from Miami to Palm Beach.

Dan Lichtenberger Broker

Victor Longo Broker Associate First Action Realty, Inc. First Action Realty, Inc. sets itself apart from the pack by operating as a boutique brokerage firm. Dan Lichtenberger and Victor Longo have been providing a bespoke service experience to clients for more than 20 years. “Service is the key to success in the real estate business, and our brokerage is more personalized than most,” said Lichtenberger. “You are going to get our expert opinion, and we are going to work closely with you throughout the entire process. We are very in tune with the market and have worked with clients seeking every kind of real estate, from a small condo to a private country club community to a luxurious waterfront mansion. With our own personal background in buying, renovating and reselling homes, we are extremely familiar with what clients look for in a home and what is involved in realizing and exceeding their expectations. Real estate is not only typically our most important and valued asset, but also a great vehicle to establish and grow wealth,” Lichtenberger explained. “One of the main keys to a successful transaction is negotiating price. What will it cost? How much will I get? When working with First Action Realty, the answer is: more! We’ll negotiate our listing commission as low as 1% and provide a credit to buyers at every closing!

Geri Penniman Estate Agent Premier Estate Properties A top-tier agent with Premier Estate Properties, Geri Penniman is ranked among the top 1 percent of real estate professionals nationally—and highly respected for her inside knowledge of some of Boca Raton’s most exclusive estate enclaves, including Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club. The reasons are quite simple. Geri provides her esteemed buyers and sellers with the value of experience accrued over more than 30 years. While Geri has achieved well over $400 million in career sales, and just recently closed an additional four sales in six weeks alone, she is never about volume. Her focus is highly personal, very one-on-one. Geri explains it this way: “My role is that of a trusted resource for luxury real estate. I help my buyers and sellers effectively navigate a complex market and guide them in key decisions to ensure that they derive the greatest possible benefit, the highest return on investment. My relationships with my clients go well beyond closing, and may even include tax and legal referrals. Many of them I have worked with time and again.” Perhaps that is because Geri’s micro-market analytics and insights, her level of discreet concierge service, proven program of results-driven marketing, national and international connections through Premier Estate Properties’ Incomparable Global Network, and her artful negotiating acumen all work to create such a seamless experience for her valued clientele— one that is every bit as stellar as her commitment to helping each of her clients achieve the very best result.
