Braybrook Community Hub Comments by the librarian on the building and program

- The library can be reconÞgured

- There is an arts and crafts room in the library

- The quite room isnÕt always quite

- Community room is always booked

- The community room can be opened up to

the library, this is extremely helpful in come classes/activities.

- There are homelessness meals twice a week which are hosted in the community hall and there is a connecting serving window.

- The exiting hall is repurposed from the 1950Õs. The whole community hub was designed around that exisiting building.

- The meeting rooms connect to the community hall and can be used in workshops as extra space.

- The public toilets are out of the way and hidden, there are pathÞnding issues.

- It would be nice to have some external space in the library for people to study outdoors.

- The sports room is used every weekend for sports events as well as after school sport.

SITE RESPONSE

The main areas of the community centre were placed on the site to provide the most ideal access to the surrounding community. In addition the building is responding to traffic density and building zoning.

FUNCTIONAL REALTIONSHIPS

The functions of the building revolve around the two centre courtyards. This allows for a central point of reference and allows users to continually have contact with nature.

WAYFINDING RESPONSE

The original site has very poor access, this has been corrected though strategically placed walkways throughout the site. The roof of the community centre is sloped in order to allow people to have seamless movement through the whole site. Maximizing usable green space.

SUN + SHADOW RESPONCE

There is a significant shadow formed by the government housing tower. The building was placed just below on the site to avoid interference. A fixed shading system was installed to help control the light and heat generated particularly by the western windows.
