Dr. Daniel Keown has worked as a registered doctor since graduating with a medical degree from Manchester University in 1998. In 2008, he completed a degree in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture from Kingston University, and he has studied alongside the renowned Dr. Wang Ju-Yi at the Institute of Channel Diagnosis in Beijing. He lives and practises in Tunbridge Wells, UK.
Dan Keown’s highly accessible, witty, and original book shows how western medicine validates the theories of Chinese medicine, and how Chinese medicine explains the mysteries of the body that western medicine largely ignores. He explains the generative force of embryology, how the hearts of two people in love (or in scientific terms “quantum entanglement”) truly beat as one, how a cheating heart is also an ill heart (which is why men are twice as likely to die of a sudden heart attack with their mistress than with their wife), how neural crest cells determine our lifespan, and why Proust’s madeleines evoked the memories they did. “Groundbreaking bestseller that turns Western medicine on its head and shows how sheep are cloned with Qi and surgeons have been using meridians without knowing it.”

What does it mean to “be” an acupuncturist? How does a highly experienced acupuncturist view her practice, her patients, and the world in general? Based on her widely-read blog about the wholeness of life as a Five Element practitioner, Nora Franglen’s breadth of interest shows how the curiosity and life experiences of the individual lie at the heart of what makes a true acupuncturist, over and beyond the necessary knowledge and expertise in the technicalities of practice. From her penchant for coffee shops to reflections on challenges she has experienced in the clinic, Nora illustrates how the Five Elements influence, illuminate and, ultimately, enrich all aspects of her life, and vice versa.

Editor in Chief: Tianjun Liu, O.M.D; Associate Editor in Chief: Xiao Mei Qiang Paperback • 408pp • £24.99 • 9781848190962 “There are very few texts on the instruction of Qigong that address both the art and science of this form of movement meditation and therapy. Chinese Medical Qigong does both in a clearly documented and organized manner and does it well. The first English translation of the ‘only official textbook of medical Qigong utilized in TCM universities in China’ does not suffer from translation but, rather, guides the reader through such diverse topics as Qigong history, theory, forms, research, and clinical application. Designed as a pedagogical tool, each section ends with a series of thought-provoking ‘Questions for Review,’ allowing the reader to reflect on and absorb the content... It is likely to become the ‘go-to’ textbook in any medical program that includes Qi-based therapies or self-care..” —Bonnie Povolny, LAc-The American Acupunterist

Damo Mitchell Damo Mitchell has been immersed within the Internal Arts of Asia since the age of four. He has made it his life work to fully integrate the ancient methods of the Daoists and Buddhists into his being. Initially training with his family (also long term martial artists), Damo branched out to study with masters of the eastern arts all across the world. Dedicating his life to his studies, Damo has traveled to China, Taiwan, South East Asia (Thailand was his home-base for a number of years) and various parts of Europe to meet and learn from the most accomplished of internal arts adepts. Damo’s training has expanded over the years from pure martial arts practice into deep immersion in various systems of meditation, Nei Gong practice and Chinese medical studies. In this way, Damo has approached the path of inner development according to the classical concept of following the “threefold path” of combative arts, medical practice and spiritual development.
