In case we haven’t met, my name is Jessica Lee and I am the new lieutenant governor of Division 26! I was so happy to meet the people in our division at District Convention and for those who couldn’t join us at DCON, I hope you can come with us next year! I’m extremely excited for the upcoming year and I hope to see everyone at my future DCMs and social events! One major change we have this year is the addition of New Start High School to our division. Since the officers are just getting started with their new Key Club, please give them a warm welcome to our division! I will also be hosting my first DCM this month and I hope everyone can make it! More information can be found on page 5. In this newsletter, you will find information about upcoming events, district updates, and international updates, among other news! If you ever need anything from me, I’m practically glued to my phone and on Facebook all the time, so please don’t hesitate to talk to me! In Love and Service, Jessica Lee

District Convention Recap Want to be part of the District Board? Interested in helping plan District Convention 2013? Our new Convention Chair, Andy Nguyen, is looking for a limited number of Convention Aides, who will assist him and the rest of the district board in planning next year’s District Convention! Convention Aides are required to attend all district board meetings, which are listed below. Please email me if you want an application, since it is due on April 14. Also, if you are currently a club officer and you are selected to be a Convention Aide, you must find a replacement for your officer position in your home club.
District Board Meeting Dates
Spring Board 4/20/12 – 4/22/12 Summer Board 8/10/12 – 8/12/12 Tri-K Kiwanis Family Conference Meeting 10/26/12 – 10/28/12 Winter Board 2/22/13 – 2/24/12 District Convention (for District Board) 3/20/13 – 3/24/13
This year, District Convention was held from March 30 to April 1 at the DoubleTree Hotel in SeaTac, Washington. The theme was “Service on the Big Screen” and our division had over 160 attendees! As always, DCON was a blast because we got to meet people from all over Alaska, Canada, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and California, but convention was especially exciting for us because we sat in the front rows (Kelly, our immediate past lieutenant governor, tied for District Derby, so we had great seats!) AND we won the spirit stick! Kudos to those who cheered so loudly that they lost their voices! Also, congrats to my home club, Garfield, for winning 3 awards and a special shout-out to Johnny Le from Evergreen for taking second place in the talent show!
346 more days until District Convention 2013!

District Updates
The new district governor, Giovanni Mckenzie, has decided to continue the Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program as his Governor’s Project. The program, also known as KCCP, was founded in 2010 by Past Governor Frank Morehouse of the PNW District of Kiwanis International. Past Governor Frank’s inspiration was a young cancer patient named Penny, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Penny eventually lost her battle with cancer and KCCP is dedicated to Penny’s memory. The goal of KCCP is to fund the three hospitals in our district: Doernbecher Children’s hospital in Portland; Seattle Children’s Hospital in Seattle; and British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, B.C.
You can also help by making trauma dolls!
Want to help? Make a no-sew blanket or card to brighten up a cancer patient’s day!
Each year, thousands of children are diagnosed with cancer and with the help of research, their chances of surviving have tripled. Finding a cure for children’s cancer will benefit all cancer patients worldwide because although research of adult cancers does nothing to help cure children’s cancers, research of children’s cancers can help find a cure for adult cancers.
Who: Anyone with an interest in becoming a stronger leader! What: Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program that is often described as a lifechanging event. Focusing on service leadership as the first and most meaningful leadership experience, participants, known as Key Leaders, learn the most important lesson of leadership – it comes from helping others succeed. When: Friday, April 27 to Sunday, April 29 Where: Camp Waskowitz in North Bend, WA Why: Attending Key Leader is a great way to meet new people and gain leadership experience! How: Register at http://www.keyleader.org/Find-Key-LeaderEvents/Register-Now.aspx

International Updates Did you love DCON? Then go to ICON! Who: Any Key Clubber! What: International Convention 2012 When: Saturday, June 30 to Sunday, July 8 Where: June 30 – July 3: Disney All Star Sports Hotel and July 4 – July 8: Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista Why: We will be electing the International Board at ICON and this year, we have two candidates from our district running for the position of International Trustee: MaryAlice Peng from Division 28 and Calvin Leung from Division 66! Going to ICON is also a great way to meet Key Clubbers from all around the world! Check out the ICON Starter Kit for more info. The first deposit for $700 is due April 25.
Kiwanis International and UNICEF have partnered to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus, which kills nearly 60,000 babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of this disease are excruciating – tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. Division 26 Goal: To fundraise $500 by March 1, 2013 for the Eliminate Project
