FUN, SUN, AND SERVICE Get pumped for the new school year

LETTER FROM THE LTG Hey Key Clubbers! I hope you have all had a wonderful start to the new school year! The first Key Club meetings of the year are coming up quickly, so that means I will be visiting all the schools in the next month in a half or so! Until then, I want you all to recruit more members for your school’s Key Club. You can recruit members by doing morning announcements and putting up posters around your school. Another great way is to bring a non-Key Clubber friend to a meeting! If every single returning member in each club does that, then the number of members in our division will double! Let’s make the 2012-2013 school year something to remember 

TABLE OF CONTENTS Letter from the LtG….......2 Seattle Rally Recap............3 Key Dates...........................4 Upcoming DCMs..............5 Key Leader………….…...........6 Divisional News….….…......7 District News……...............8 International News............9 August Birthdays..............10 Executive Board...............11 Kiwanis Info....................11 Officer Info.....................12 Rainbow Board...............13

We will be having a bonfire, making s’mores, and having a great time! More details are on page 5. I hope to see you all there! As always, I hope you find this newsletter helpful and informative. Let me know if you have any questions! In Love and Service,

SEATTLE RALLY RECAP

Seattle Rally 2012 started off with almost 400 Key Clubbers from all around the Seattle area at Kent-Meridian High School! We even had guests from Oregon and Canada! Filled with fun and informative workshops, Seattle Rally was a great bonding experience for our division – we were even filmed for KeyTV for DCON 2013! During the closing session, Johnny Le and Steven Dang from Evergreen performed in the talent show! We also raised the most money as a division and you guys got to pie me in the face (see the picture on the left!) I hope you all had fun! 

KEY LEADER Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for today’s young leaders. This lifechanging event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadershipdevelopment experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership: it comes from helping others succeed. Participants begin by attending a Key Leader conference, which is a weekend retreat. Large and small group workshops, discussions, and team-building activities take place over the course of the weekend. Students have opportunities to learn leadership skills that will help them change their schools, communities, and world for the better. While exploring leadership in a whole new way, participants will make amazing new friends and have experiences they will never forget. Positive, ongoing interaction with other Key Leader graduates offers continuing reinforcement encouragement and growth of leadership skills.

Who: Anyone with an interest in becoming a stronger leader! You don’t have to be a Key Clubber! When: Friday, October 5 to Sunday, October 7 Where: Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp in Rhododendron, OR Why: Attending Key Leader is a great way to meet new people and gain leadership experience! How: Register at http://www.keyleader.org/Find-Key-LeaderEvents/Register-Now.aspx Key Leader costs $200, but if you talk to your Kiwanis, you may receive a scholarship! The last day to register is September 20.

Even if you’re not sure you want to run, we can talk and I can help you decide if you want to run or not! DISTRICT DERBY

JOHN F. KENNEDY

Have you ever wondered how Division 26 has gotten front row seats at DCON for the past 2 years? It’s because we all paid our dues on time! In a contest known as the District Derby, the division that gets 75% of its clubs to pay their dues first will get the best seats at DCON 2013! If you want to sit in the front again at DCON, pay your dues ASAP! Dues are between $12 and $17 depending on your club.

Thanks to Steven Dang and Johnny Le from Evergreen, we’re on our way to rechartering John F. Kennedy’s Key Club and welcoming the members back into our division! I hope you’re all as excited as I am!

INTERNATIONAL NEWS Key Club International is now offering all Key Club members to have an opportunity to apply by October 15th and become members of the Key Club International’s 3 Special Committees! As a committee member, you will not have benefits such as traveling and paid expenses; however, you will have the opportunity to work with the International board in making a lasting impact for Key Club International. The three committees are the Bylaw Review Team, the Global Task Force, and the Service Ambassadors. The links for the applications (which includes one optional letter of recommendation from a Key Club-affiliated adult) and further descriptions can be found below! The Bylaw Review Team will be thoroughly picking over Key Club International’s Bylaws and Policies to help eliminate discrepancies, provide clarification, and correct structural/grammatical issues. It will not be altering content. The Bylaw Review Team will present its suggestions to the Key Club International Executive Committee, who may then choose which revisions to take to the Key Club International Board. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHRQVUhhd1RfM0VJNnZX WG1jSnptX1E6MQ#gid=0 The Global Task Force will serve to highlight the diversity and international flavor of our organization, as well as promote our core value of “inclusiveness” as a way to attract more members. The Global Task Force will help draft educational resources and collect stories and video for further use by the standing International committees. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFVLRHhUaUZSUEtHYl hJS0ZFZmZvTUE6MQ#gid=0 Our Service Ambassadors will help promote the Eliminate Project and our Preferred Charities by encouraging Key Club members to participate in projects with them and by providing ideas to help members to know how to participate with the Eliminate Project and our Preferred Charities. We hope they will indirectly make service attractive for members by displaying their own personal passion for the Eliminate Project and our Preferred Charities in all aspects of their lives. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDFrZk56SHdhNlRMekU1Q09 ReHlEMnc6MQ#gid=0
