District and International News  Founded in 2010 by Past Governor Frank Morehouse of PNW District of Kiwanis International  Inspired by a brain cancer patient named Penny

Three Hospitals in the PNW

Why KCCP?

 Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland  Seattle Children’s Hospital in Seattle  British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, B.C.

Each year, thousands of children are diagnosed with cancer and with the help of research, their chances of surviving have tripled. Finding a cure for children’s cancer will benefit all cancer patients worldwide because although research of adult cancers does nothing to help cure children’s cancers, research of children’s cancers can help find a cure for adult cancers.

International News – Eliminate Project

Kiwanis International and UNICEF have partnered to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus, which kills nearly 60,000 babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of this disease are excruciating – tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. Division 26’s Goal: To fundraise $500 by March 1, 2013 for the Eliminate Project So far, we have raised a little over $43!

In order to make the Rainbow Board more fair for everyone, there will now be TWO winners for the Board at the end of the year! One winner will be a big school (Chief Sealth, Evergreen, Franklin, Garfield, or West Seattle) and another winner will be a small school (Cleveland, Highline, Mount Rainier, New Start, or Seattle Lutheran)! The prize will still be either a pizza or ice cream party and the winners will be determined by whoever has the most points!

Names of the big schools are bolded above!

Points are rewarded for completing surveys (5 points), reading my newsletter (5 points), attending DCMs (10 points), and making sure your club secretary and vice president fill out their monthly reports (10 to 20 points each)!

Want more Rainbow Board points? Text or call me at 206-375-8065, email me at jessicalee.ltg@gmail.com, or Facebook message me with the answer to the (two-part) question below! What is the Eliminate Project and what is Division 26’s monetary goal for it? Hint: The answer is somewhere in this newsletter! You have until 11:59 PM on May 11, 2012 to send me the answer!
