Who is Compass?

The story behind the tech-centric real estate brokerage that’s sweeping the nation (and now Jackson Hole).

Robert Reffkin grew up the child of a hardworking single mother. A tireless entrepreneur, she spent most of her career as a real estate agent. She tried to instill an entrepreneurial spirit in Reffkin, too.

“When she would put me to bed at night she would rub my head and say, ‘Robert know that you can be anything you want in this world. So go to bed and have big dreams.’” Reffkin told Compass employees during a speech.

In 2012, Reffkin founded Compass with tech mogul Ori Allon, who had previously sold two companies to Google and Twitter respectively. The idea for the company was deceptively simple: create better technological tools for real estate agents so that they can spend less time pouring over market reports and more time with their clients. It was an idea based on the tribulations that Reffkin had seen his mother undergo as a real estate agent.

As a silicon valley entrepreneur, Ori Allon gained a reputation for creating technological tools that provided exceptional solutions to common problems. According to Fast Company, code from Allon’s former company, Orion, “is now part of Google’s core search algorithm.” Allon took his solutions based approach, as well as a team of coders and machine learning experts, and applied it to Real Estate.

Why Wyoming

Tax Benefits Are Attracting Buyers from around the Country

Wyoming has long been renowned for its stunning beauty. From the regal Teton Range to the wonders of Yellowstone National Park, to the magnificence of the Big Horn Mountains, the state’s natural grandeur and biodiversity are second to none. That rugged charm has attracted home buyers of every variety and from around the world.

Wyoming’s tax code is among the most beneficial in the country. It’s not hard to see why Wyoming consistently scores at the top of the country. There is no individual or corporate state income tax, no state capital gains tax, no tax on trust income, no state gift tax, no estate or inheritance tax, and no intangible tax. The state sales tax is tied for the eighth lowest in the nation, and property taxes

as a percentage of home value are the seventh lowest.

Wyoming also boasts strong privacy and trust-friendly laws. Here, individuals and families can shield real estate from federal estate taxes for up to 1,000 years through dynasty trusts, which can be established to benefit family members or other beneficiaries.

Wyoming is one only a few states that permits single family private family trust companies (PFTCs) to act as trustee for a trust or group of trusts. This structure creates privacy and facilitates family involvement in the decision-making process, allows for control over the investment asset mix, trustee succession and, importantly, is a tool by which the younger generation can be educated about valued family assets.

North of Town

The area north of the Town of Jackson towards the airport, most commonly known for the Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club, boasts a blend of the rugged West and a Robert Trent-Jones II designed golf course.
