Things are taken toward at this stage:

Sketch Design Development - Different length of the paper sheet/ random shape

Pervious design idea:

- The open and close system/ the pyramid shpe.

It is putting on the neck which is our weakest part of the body for protection, and the object can be hold by the shoulder. Using different length of the paper sheet, in order to form a random or inregular shape.

The flexible bottom part is able to transform the upper elements horizontally, and by adding more elemnts, the whole shape is gonna increase the volume and be defensive.

The bottom panel makes the upper elements free to move horizontally, however in order to cover as much as body space, vertically span is also essential.

By bending the bottom part into different angle, the upper elements are able to form different shapes. And the last form is the one that fits body the most. by repeating the shape will be able to increase the most volume and be defensive. Pervious design idea: The pivots make the system more flexible and are able to follow the body’s shape, it also increase the body volume simutaeneoudly.

This design is formed by a number of pyraimd. by sticking the first layer of pyraimds together, the following extending ones are gonna follow the gravity and the whole shape will be able to perform the bendng type.

How to relate to our personal space? Family

Female friends Top view

Male friends Female strengers Male strengers

The distance of our personal space depends on the surrounding and the targets. It increases from family to male friends steadily, but raise dramatically in the situations of facing strengers. Our back is relatively hard to protect since we cannot see what will happen behind, and therefore, a protective personal space is consindered as our design.

The right side of the model are comparatively longer than the left side due to the reason of a right-hand person need a bigger personal space at right side.

Details:

Form a curve shape

Connect by a string side view: BACK personal space

*The composition of the pyramids with different sizes is a way to increase the volume and protect the back part since the back is more vulnerable. Using the string to connect the vertices torgether will let the elments follow the gravity and be able to form the curve which follows the body shape

Back Front

This design is covering both front and the back. Side view: Rhino model on body

Top view They are in different length and put it randomly. Besides, the front covering area is less than the back.

This design stands at the view of women, provides layered spaces which covered the women intimate parts efficiently, and the wearer will be able to have the control of the layers in order to fit in different situations.

Repeat They are repeating the layer one into few more layer with different length.

How to relate to our personal space?

Details: Transformation Layers are inside

Decreasing Cross section area is decreasing since one layer have to put in the outer

Materials:

Tracing paper

Perspex

Ivory paper

Without focusing at the vulnerable back areas, this design means to cover the front space and also the back space. By considering personal spaces and also stand in the view of a woman, the personal space which covers personal space should be able to protect the intimate space. And also for some intimate spaces, the distance will also change as the circumstances changes.

Using different materials are telling the willingness of communicating with people. Especially for the first layer which covers the face, with connecting with the viewing points, and also prevent blocking the sight, the transparency of the materials from the main body to the facial part is decreasing.

Furthermore, the perspex and trancing paper will make the front part of the design less aggressive, and also let the user be able to have a control of the viewing area.

PULL THEM OUT This is relating to our personal space. The length will increase due to facing different people, that include family, friends, female strangers and male strangers. Therefores, our design can pull out the layers one by one when you in different circumstance.

Precedent Research Gloria, Arianna, Ilaria and Adele (GAIA)

FOLD/ TRIANGLE/ FORM CURVE/STRETCHABLE

CHOOSE A PRECEDENT FROM THE LMS INCLUDE IMAGES OF THE PRECEDENT IN THIS SPACE This design is mainly form by a number of triangle shapes. A curve line/ shape can be created by folding the triangles.

It is stretchable or tensible, which can open from a flat form to a volume shape, either vertically, horizontally or three dimensionally.

The design is mainly used paper as the material. Some thicker or heavier paper, such as 250gsm or above should be suggested in the model since light paper might not support the large voulme, and cannot work out the shape stably. 10

Precedent applied to design FOLD/PARALLELOGRAM/ SQUARE/ FORM CURVE/STRETCHABLE

IN THIS SPACE When it is closed. It looks INCLUDE SKETCHES + DIAGRAMS + IMAGES THAT EXPLAIN HOW relatively flat. THIS CONCEPT CAN INFLUENCE YOUR DESIGN

All the parallelogram just form like the triangel formed in the precedent study.

It can be opened in up&down way, and left&right direction. If every single folding paper is in the same length, they can be aslo formed a sphere shape.

Space and volume are created when it is open up.

How can you use this precedent to influence your design ?

Parallelogram also can form a cuvre line.

It inspired us how polygon can form curve line and shape. Beside, it reminds us how folding can create space and voulme.

Design development #2 development of supporting point and the general design

Stage 1:

Trim

Stage 2:

Stage 3:

RIGHT length > LEFT length

it was found out all the forces of the pyraimd gather at one point, which is hard to support on body.

A space/ area is created by cutting the middle part, which can spread the force more evenly, and the form the shape along the body more easily,.

We have been more consider the accurate distance of the personal space. The personal space right hand side is larger than the left side due to the reason of right-

Moreover, at this stage, the length of every single object is put randomly.

13

Design Development: How can it be extended/ How to pull the object out?

Stage 1:

Stage 2:

It is suggested to put a cotton string between two pyraimd, and it is connected both ended point. Therefore, the object will drop when it is pulling out.

This is the same theory as the stage one method, but the cotton string will be changed to a sticker paper string which is more secure in a rectangular shaped object.

Design Development: How can it be extended/ How to pull the object out? Stage 3:

Problem of the stage one/two method: The previous folding methods are not stable, the upper parts will follow the move of the string, the shape is not buildable. Improvement: in prder to emphasize the stability of the whole shape, the panel was been folded as shown down, and two small connection panels will been connected with the upper and lower part become extendable.

2.2

Fold it outside It has to fold in opposite direction. One is for the last payer, and one is for the coming layer.

3.1

Design development Development of the back design:

Stage 1:

Stage 2:

Spreading the force into a wider span to prevent all force comes to one point.

16

Stage 3:

Give the back space a more comfortable moving space and also protect the vulnerable back space.

Design development Lighting effects: with one friend

Female to female

White Lights on Thsi applies when the weare wanna get attentions from somebody or wanna be wantched among lots of friends. The wearer is able to have a control of the lighting effects.

Red Lights on Gender does matter when we trying to explain personal space. Therefore, the red light in this case is trying to express a sign of warning.

Transformation by different circumstances: ALONE/ CLOSED

FEMALE STRANGERS

Red light on

MALE STRANGERS

Personal space estended.

The original shape of the design was shown as above since there is a string to cover around the neck and its all been folded together to stand for the personal space for each individual is the smallest.

The gerenal personal space of the front is extended, which is not included the first layer(face). There is no changes at the personal space of the back.

The front personal space of the female strangers stage is also extended, but the material is in an half transparent state that represent we are not trying to totally isolate myself.

Several sharp objects are added on to the back personal space at the stage of facing the strangers since people are more defensive to the strangers. Besides, red light is applied while facing the male strangers as danger increasesd.
