URBAN NOMAD

The Facts

25% more young college graduates live in major metropolitan areas today than in 2000 and about a million cross state lines each year. This change leads to culture shock: the occupational disease of the people who have been suddenly transplanted abroad.

Opportunity Statement

URBANNOMAD is a contemporary line constructed from quality fabrics containing unique intricate details providing the adventure-seeking woman constantly exploring unfamiliar venues with a wardrobe that caters to the range of emotions corresponding with perpetual cultural adjustment.

Trend Analysis

Transparency is one of the key big business themes through the visualization of previously invisible data. We have no option but to embrace, if not celebrate, the truth and what is real.

Trend Analysis

DISSONANCE comes charged with energy. It celebrates an explosion of exuberance and toys delightfully with contradiction creating a new strain of harmony. Artists will look at historical pieces and fuse them with the modern day. Designers will begin to marry unexpected elements, bringing two contrasting elements together creating this perfect paradox.

ANGULAR FLUIDITY

Design Brief

The detailed analysis of the trends found on the Fall/ Winter 2015 runway shows were interpreted into a collection concept for Fall/Winter 2016 With an identified theme of juxtaposition the concept includes key pieces, fabric, and texture as well as color, print + pattern, and styling.

Gabriele Colangelo This collection displays the juxtaposition between material surfaces and the creation of unexpected matchings. Shown are two directions: the line of the garments and the choice of the fabrics. This collection truly defies construction restraints.

Victoria Beckham The shows organizing principles are noted as draping and asymmetry. Dresses and separates are about accentuating the body, whereas the coats were more about armoring it.

t

Balenciaga This collection is about respecting the heritage and the history, but also adding the edgy Alexander Wang twist. The opulence of the original clientele is translated to the modern customer through ‘over-the-top’ jewelry paired along with a slight boyish edge.

Stella McCartney This collection is admired because of the elements that create fluidity out of structure while incorporating an easy nonchalance. This collection incorporated asymmetric necklines and new proportions.

Fendi This collection has a theme of Geometric Precision. The runway showcased an idea of protection melded with pure geometry, volume, linear structures and held interest through pieced panels.

Jil Sander This collection has a theme of Graphic Modernism. The designs held a minimalist approach with a streamlined and modern ease.

Angular Fluidity

Sharp lines of architectural buildings are translated into geometric shapes in garments. In contrast, cocooning shapes constructed in yummy fabric as well as natural elements displayed throughout accessories round out the collection.
