STATION #1 The popular vote is the vote made by citizens for the candidate they want to be president. They go to the polling location and cast their votes. Which is a better example of the Popular Vote? Example 1 In Virginia all of the citizen’s votes were counted and 1,959,532 citizens voted for Obama and 1,725,005 voted for McCain. Obama clearly won!

Example 2 In Virginia after Election Day the 13 electors go to Washington D.C. to cast their votes for President Obama.

The Electoral Vote is when the electors from each state case their votes for President and Vice President based on the popular vote. The Electoral vote is how we elect the President and Vice President. Which is a better example of the Electoral Vote?

Example 1 In the 2008 election in Texas 3.5 million people voted for Obama and 4.6 million voted for McCain. Because McCain won and the winner takes all Electoral College votes Texas electors cast all 34 votes for McCain in the 2008 election.

Example 2 In 2008 after Election Day after all the votes were counted a total of 59 million citizens across the United States voted for McCain and 69 million citizens across the United States votes for Obama. Obama won the most votes.
