FROM THE DESK OF . . .

Dear Friends of the Park District,

Hopefully, it is almost time to put away the snow shovels and ice scrapers that we used to fight this year’s long winter season. The blizzard of 2011 will remain in our memory for a long time. It is only reassuring that now is the time to begin to think of spring. The warm, glorious rays of sunlight that will soon warm the earth so new life will rise from the soil and start it’s cycle of growth. With this great annual rite of spring comes another, the mailing of the Chicago Heights Park District’s Spring and Summer Program booklet. This year we will offer some exciting programs for all our residents. The Statewide Kite Fly, sponsored by the Illinois Association of Park Districts, bring out the child in all of us, regardless of age. Our Fiesta in the Park will entice you with great selection of food to help celebrate Cinco de Mayo. If you like movies, the annual Movie in the Park is a surefire way to enjoy a fine movie outside with some popcorn or candy. The Park Fest each year combines learning, music, food and the great outdoors, for an enjoyable day. Summer camp is always for for the kids; and our T-ball, baseball and softball leagues for children bring the thrill of sport and teamwork together. The Teen Reach programs provide activities for youth ages 11-17. The two golf courses are sure the challenge even the best golfers in the area. We again will offer handicaps thru the Chicago District Golf Association. This will allow players to chart their play all season long. For our seniors, we have arranged several outings for them to enjoy a variety of things. The trips include a visit to Shipshewana, Potawatomi Bingo Casino, the Kane County Fair in St. Charles and wine tasting in the beautiful Harbor Country of Michigan. I hope to see you and your family at one of these great events, the golf course or at one of our local parks. Have a safe and fun summer!

Sincerely,

Joseph Patrick Stanfa President Chicago Heights Park District
