Registration Information REGISTRATION PROCEDURES:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Persons wishing to register for classes offered at the Chicago Heights Park District may do so as follows:
The Chicago Heights Park District assumes no responsibility for injuries or loss of personal property while attending a Park District-sponsored activity or facility. We ask that all participants in Chicago Heights Park District programs carry their own medical insurance. Though we make every effort to minimize situations that could lead to injuries, accidents can happen. Group coverage through the Park District is not available because the high costs of medical insurance would prohibit us from offering quality programs at their current low rates.
• Fill out registration form • Full payment for programs is due upon registration. Make money order payable to the Chicago Heights Park District. • No telephone registrations will be accepted at any time. • Registration forms will be available at the recreation Center and Online. • The office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. NO CASH will be accepted after office hours. • Payments accepted: cash, money orders or credit cards. Payments online coming soon!
WAIVERS OF LIABILITY: To participate in any Chicago Heights Park District program, you must sign a waiver releasing the Park District of any liability.

Participants will NOT be notified by the Park District if a program is cancelled due to inclement weather. If you feel that the weather is questionable, please call 756PARK to find out if a program will be cancelled.
Our refund policy is as follows: • If we cancel a program, you will receive a full refund. • You will receive a program credit if you cancel a program prior to the start of the program, less $5.00 administrative fee. • We reserve the right to cancel any program due to low enrollment. • Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for refund checks to be mailed to your home.
NON-RESIDENT RATES: Participants in Chicago Heights Park District programs who reside outside the Chicago Heights & South Chicago Heights city limits are required to pay an additional 50% not to exceed $10.00 more per person per program.

The terms “I”, “Me” and “My” also refer to parents or guardians as well as participants in the programs. CODE OF CONDUCT: No eligible participant shall be limited in the exercise of any right, privilege, advantage or opportunity on the basis of race, sex, creed, national origin, activities, service or benefits.
BEHAVIOR: Participants are expected to exhibit positive behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been developed to help make Park District program safe and enjoyable for all participants. Additional rules may be developed for particular programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff. Participants shall: • Show respect to all participants and staff • Take directions from staff • Refrain from using abusive or foul language • Refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other participants or staff. • Show respect to equipment, supplies and facilities.
The Memorial Bench Program: We are proud to announce that the Chicago Heights Park District Memorial Bench Program will start in 2012. This is our way of providing warm and inviting parks while offering our residents a great way to honor someone special in their life. You may request a specific park for your memorial bench. The exact location, however, will be determined in conjunction with Park District staff. For more information on purchasing a memorial bench, please call 708-755-1351.
DISCIPLINE: A positive approach will be used regarding discipline. Staff will periodically review rules with participants during program session. If inappropriate behavior occurs, a prompt resolution will be sought specific to each situation. The Park District reserves the right to dismiss a participant whose behavior endangers the safety of himself/herself or others.

Park District Parties! Are you looking for a fun, unique and affordable party experience? Celebrate your next birthday party with the Chicago Heights Park District and leave the planning to us! Each 2 hour party package is affordable priced at $150 and includes a party coordinator, cake, ice cream, beverages and party decorations. Helping Hands Teen Reach We are proud to announce a wonderful FREE SERVICE for the youth of Chicago Heights and Ford Heights. The Chicago Heights Park District is the lead organization in this collaborative partnership with the Bloom Township Youth and Family Services, the Southland Health Care Forum as the coordinating agency, Proactive Community Services, Southland Hispanic Leadership Council and School District 170. Jointly, these organizations will work together to provide an out of school program that increases opportunities for youth ages 11-17 to participate in structured development, learning activities and recreational programs designed to empower them to reach their individual goals and highest potential. Special Needs Swim Lessons We care about our residents with special challenges. Our Chicago Heights Park District will now be offering swim classes for our residents with special needs. This program is perfect for children who want to learn how to swim and wish they were more comfortable in the water. Expungement Informational Event Do you want to learn how to clear your criminal record? This event will provide you with information on how to legally remove an arrest record in Illinois, a process known as “expungement” and alternatives when expungement is not an option. All classes will start with basic technique and stretching (older students will do work at the barre) and continue with center and across the floor combinations. Special Needs Swim Lessons We care about our residents with special challenges. Our Chicago Heights Park District will now be offering swim classes for our residents with special needs. This program is perfect for children who want to learn how to swim and wish they were more comfortable in the water. Our certified swim instructors will provide quality swim lessons to our participants. We will focus on basic skills like paddling and kicking. The program also focuses on enhancement of motor skills. COMING SPRING 2012 – ALEX LOPEZ PARK The Chicago Heights Park District is proud to announce that the ground breaking for the NEW Alex Lopez Park will happen this spring. This park will celebrate the life and legacy of the late Alex Lopez who served as Superintendent of the Chicago Heights Park District. This park will be a beautiful attraction located on the Chicago Road corridor adjacent to the Chicago Heights Rec Center and the Chicago Heights Library. This awesome tribute is sponsored by the Community Benefit Fund which includes the following organizations: Chicago Heights Park District, Franciscan St. James Hospital and Prairie State College.
African rhythms are not only fulfilling and creative arts, but also an ancient institution of learning that teaches concentration, coordination, orderliness, timing, balance and a mind-nurturing exercise. Jujitsu This class is taught in the classical Japanese & Okinawa traditions and etiquette. Student learn about pressure point, throws and wrist locks to develop self-defense and selfconfidence. Sports & Activities Youth Summer Track & Field Program This is a 16 week program focusing on developing sprinters; hurdlers; distance runners; long, triple and high jumpers; shot putters and discus throwers. the program will be affiliated with USA Track & Field. All athletes will be eligible to qualify for the National Junior Olympics which is contested annually at a collegiate location somewhere in the U.S. This year will be Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Let’s Do Lunch
Adults 50 and better (F.A.B.) are invited to join one of three separate groups that belong to one organization. We have Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday groups that meet every week, starting at 11:00 am in the Social Room. Following card play, a meeting is held with refreshments and bingo following. Membership is $45 fort he year. Becoming a member allows you many benefits and discounts. Please call Director Eric Hartmann to register or for more information.
As a F.A.B. Active Adult, 50 or better and a Social Club member, you are invited to a catered lunch each month in the Social Center. Arrive by 11:30am to socialize, lunch is served at noon.
Classic Movies Please join us for classic films, to be presented the first and third Thursday of December at 10:30 am. Popcorn will be provided. Bring a beverage or your lunch if you wish.

BOARD MEETINGS The Chicago Heights Park District Board of Commissioners meeting is held the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Recreation Center, 400 Chicago Road. Meetings are open to the public, if you are interested, please feel free to attend.

However, our instructors have found that the quality of instruction is affected by parent and/or sibling distractions. You are always welcome to discuss your child’s progress with his/her instructor. PARK PERMITS All parks are open to everyone’s use during regular park hours of dawn to dusk. The Park District will be issuing permits to resident groups of Chicago Heights who wish to reserve parkland areas. Requests for 2012 park rentals will be accepted starting January 9, 2012.
PARK WATCH: Seemore, The Eagle Eye Park Watch mascot is counting on residents to use their “eagle eyes” to spot and report crimes, damage or suspicious activities occurring in their parks. Call the Park Watch hotline at 756-PARK.
