ELINA ABOUT MYSELF
I’ve always been passionate about ar t because through it, I could create my own world and illustrate ever ything in a personal light.
Painting can also express so many things without the use of words such as emotions and opinions that could not otherwise be communicated. Animals have also been something I was interested in since I was very young and wanted to discuss beyond words. I was curious of where and how they lived. When I got older, I realized how humans were affecting a lot of these animals negatively to the point of even jeopardizing their existence. So, through painting, I communicated my love for animals, por trayed the interdependent relationship between humans and as well as deeper issues and problems connected to them such as re-habitation and the codification of their rights.

PART ONE
CREATURES ON EARTH Humans and other animals have always been living together. We are only the lucky ones who had the chance to evolve into something more than the others. However, this shouldn’t be the reason we destroy their habitats or even to kill them for our own good. Some live in water, some amphibians can live both on land and in water. Some are mammals, and primates are the ones closest to us. Some live in habitats humans cannot even survive in. Some are docile, even close to humans ,others are predators that hunt for survival. The have their own food chain which is similar to our society...They are all unique and interesting with their own characteristics and habitats in which they live in. So, in this section, I painted those animals.

This painting shows how elephants are killed by h u m a n s f o r t h e i r t u s k s . To d a y, t h e g r e a t e s t a n d most urgent threat to elephants is the large-scale poaching for their tusks to be made into ivor y products and to supply the illegal ivor y tr ade . Commercial whaling has been going on for years which includes hunting of the endangered fin whale. I wanted to express in this piece how cruel and selfish it was to kill animals unnecessarily for our own good. Over 1,000 whales are killed each year for commercial purposes. This illustrates how some humans only see hints that benefits them without caring about the lives of other animals or the consequences of their gains. Although the animal in this painting is an antelope , for me, it represents all the animals humans hunts for, and all the profits humans are greedy for, despite what they need to do in order to get them.

In 2008 polar bears were listed as threatened species in the US, in this painting I wanted to por tray how polar bears and other animals are losing their habitats because of climate change and global warming due to development in cities such as the increasing amounts of production in factories. The glacier polar bears rely upon in order to live are disappearing and as that is happening, the arctic is opening up to oil and gas exploration and increased shipping which may affect the balance in the arctic system.

Ocean pollution is a ver y ser ious issue and it affects the animals that lives in it. E a c h y e a r, b i l l i o n s o f p o u n d s o f t r a s h a n d other pollutants are released into the ocean. This can be as simple as disposing plastic bag or a plastic bottle. Discarded fishing mater ial is also a huge problem because marine animals often get tangled or caught up in these nets. I think we should be more aware of how small actions can cause harm to the animals around us.

I wanted to paint a hypothesis of what would happen after all the trees disappear on earth: with no more trees left, humans found a way to sacrifice an amount of people each year so they can replace the trees, they would simply grow into them with time. What I wanted to display was how desperate humans would be after we cut down all of the trees, destroying many animals’ habitats and the balance of the ecosystem. This is why we should always think of the results for destroying or bringing harm to nature.

I even hope that I would be able to raise more awareness towards those issues with my paintings. In the future, I would like to create more paintings related to these issues so more people can see, through ar t, how serious they are and engender a positive change in the wor ld around me and the future ahead of me.
