Hello! I’m Tia, and I’m an artist who loves to work in many different mediums. I use oil, graphite, watercolor, and markers, and I draw inspiration from buildings in urban settings, animals, and my own imagination, allowing me to explore various techniques and styles. Each medium offers a unique opportunity to convey, express, and promote my ideas and feelings. I enjoy challenging myself to shift my vision through all these mediums. In this portfolio, you will see several of my works showcasing my skills and the growth I’ve made recently as an artist. I see art as a way to think and share my ideas with others, and I’m excited for you to explore my portfolio and discover my creative journey.

Nocturne

The artwork beautifully recreates the picture of a night city, with the river reflecting the sparkling lights of nearby buildings. In the horizon, skyscrapers tower magnificently, their windows sparkling like stars against the deep blue-blackness of the sky. On the other side of the river is a bridge, symbolizing the unity and harmony of the two parts of the city, completing the atmosphere of the scene.

The water is calm and glassy, reflecting the overhead lights, a serene background for the nighttime city scene. The high contrast and vibrant coloring make the image come alive, and the yellow stripe acts as an eye-targeting visual anchor, pulling the viewer into the photograph. This piece conveys the drama and intensity of the city at night, pulling the viewer in toward the enchanting magic of urban nighttime.

Cocoa and Midnight

There are two horses in this painting: the chestnut horse, Cocoa, on the left and the black horse, Midnight, on the right. Cocoa is painted in a rich warm color, whereas Midnight is painted in dark colors to emphasize its slender body.

The bright yellow ground of the painting implies a desert landscape, making for a sharp contrast that draws attention to the figures of the horses. The three-dimensional texture of the work, created through the use of a mixture of paint and sand, gives it depth and texture, making the horses look colorful and alive as they gallop on the painting. The textured technique creates an illusion of movement, giving one the impression that the horses are running freely in a desert.

Color and Shape Thinking

In the background, there are symbols for Hong Kong’s skyscrapers, along with a bus bearing the marking “E22”, symbolizing the return of my brother from boarding school. A slice of

watermelon perched on one of the buildings provides a note of fun and absurdity that reinforces the playful character of the work.

The bold colors and thick forms create a sense of high-spirited mood, inviting observers to look for the layers of meaning and personal import incorporated into the work. For the most part, the work blends humor and memories, capturing a moment of pleasure and reunion.

Animals

This artwork is a fun mix of sketches in a striking red and white color scheme. At the center, there’s a detailed drawing of a wolf with a thoughtful look. Surrounding the wolf are playful illustrations, including a tree and a sparrow, which add a lively touch.

Some sections feature zoomed-in parts of the wolf, highlighting its features and adding depth to the piece. The background includes complex shapes and patterns that create movement and interest. Anti-epidemic Soldier

Hands in the foreground stretch, with surrounding symbols like syringes and virus icons, representing the medical care response to the crisis. These symbols represent the urgency and importance of medical intervention during this time.

The bright colors and vibrant details set the dynamic mood, challenging the viewer to think about the impacts of COVID-19 on society. Overall, the painting combines real-life imagery with abstract concepts, challenging us to think about the challenges and measures we faced during the pandemic.

Spatial Elements

Waves of Disconnection

This artwork powerfully contrasts a futuristic cyber city with the circumstances of marine animals suffering from pollution. The sleek skyscrapers symbolize human progress, while beneath the surface, marine life struggles between scraps and waste.

A sorrowful penguin paddles through murky waters, surrounded by discarded plastics, highlighting its misery. Other creatures, including fish and crustaceans, are tangled in the pollution, emphasizing their torture.

An ironic poster urging viewers to adopt pets underscores the disconnect between human desires and the urgent difficulty of wildlife. Overall, the piece serves as an important reminder of the environmental cost of progress and the need for compassion toward all living beings.

Self-portrait

This portrait artwork is created using regular paint, yet it casts a vibrant energy that enchants all who see it. The piece features a representation of me, decorated with purple, yellow, and green stripes on blue hair—different compared to my real-life appearance. My face is rich with colorful details, showcasing various tones and unique features.

To further liven the piece, small three-dimensional bright-pink cones, which are made out of clay, are scattered throughout the background. Three groups of these cones, each consisting of about seven small ones, introduce a bold contrast to the softer tones, creating a striking visual impact that draws the viewer’s eye and adds an unexpected twist to the piece. Dressed in a green shirt, I stand out against a background filled with layered shades of pink and red, creating complexity without blending them into a single colour.
