Wilson Phillips Their Dream is Still Alive.
by Ted Kirby
T
wenty-five years ago, the very popular all-girl singing trio Wilson Phillips debuted their sensational self-titled album. This multi-platinum freshman release sold over ten million copies worldwide spawning three number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100! Their 1992 sophomore album, Shadows and Light, resulted in platinum sales status. Over the growth of a generation, Grammy Award and American Music Award nominee Wilson Phillips have produced a handful of albums including original material, greatest hits, a Christmas album and a compilation of cool covers of their parents’ (The Mamas & The Papas’ John and Michelle Phillips and The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, respectively) chart-topping songs. After 46 years of friendship and thirty years of singing together, Chynna Phillips, Carnie Wilson, and Wendy Wilson are on their way back to Phoenix, Arizona. They will showcase their harmonious talents as the main headliner on Saturday night, April 11 in celebration of the Phoenix Pride’s 35th Anniversary Festival. Wilson Phillips is ready to share some details…so, hold on…here we go! ION: The three of you have sustained a very special bond for over four decades. What is the group dynamic when touring together? WENDY: Always the same dynamic; we have a lot of fun and there is some fighting just like you would with any family. Times change but personalities stay the same. CHYNNA: We definitely complement each other! ION: While out on tour, you like to put new “twists” on your song set lists once in a while. How do you change things up? April 2015 www.IONAZ.com 35
that like? You have stated that you have developed a strong connection with the gay community. How do you feel about that today? WENDY: Let’s answer both questions ... We love the LGBTQ community! Truth is we love ALL of our fans and are so grateful for all of their support. CARNIE: Won’t it be a great day when you won’t have to ask those questions? CHYNNA AND WENDY: Yes!
CHYNNA: Well, we certainly don’t ever want to be boring! We want to make our shows fun for everyone. CARNIE: Really performing the songs that we love and what inspires us. WENDY: Many times we will invite audience members on stage to dance and sing with us ... shake it up a bit. ION: Performing at gay pride events are now on your tour schedule; what is 36
www.IONAZ.com April 2015
CARNIE: I just know how honored we are that the LGBTQ fans have been so fiercely loyal to us. CHYNNA: It’s very humbling for us. ION: You have performed in Arizona several times over the years; what memories do you have? CHYNNA: It’s really hot! (laughing). No really, we have had some great times in Arizona!
WENDY: I just found a picture of us from 1990 from one of our very first radio shows for KZZP radio. (pictured down left) CARNIE: Oh yeah! I remember that it was 114 degrees and I was in a Richard Tyler suit with sweat dripping down my face, hair matted to my head and I look over and Chynna and Wendy are cracking up at me with not one bead of sweat on their faces! CHYNNA: That’s because it was dripping down our legs! (All three girls cracking up). ION: Your number one song “Hold On” celebrates 25 years this year and was the number one song of 1990. The three of you and this particular song were featured in the hit comedy Bridesmaids in 2011. What are your thoughts about this song’s legacy? WENDY: “Hold On” has really been the “glue” for us as artists. We treasure that song and are very proud of what it has become for so many people. CHYNNA: I am always shocked to find out how many people have been so touched by “Hold On”. So many people have said to us in the last 25 years how it helped them get through some really tough times in their lives. CARNIE: And Bridesmaids? Wow! What a phenomenal experience that was! It gave us the ability to reach a whole new group of fans that–well–quite frankly, weren’t even born yet when that song was first released. ION: You are currently working on several projects. What is in the works currently and in the future for Wilson Phillips? CHYNNA: We will continue to tour as long as our fans will have us. WENDY: New records are in our future; we just aren’t sure of the content as of yet.
Stay tuned! CARNIE: We are also getting ready to launch a brand new website and a new line of merchandise for men and women. We’re really excited about that! ION: We’re so excited Wilson Phillips will be entertaining us at the 35th Phoenix Pride Festival this year. Since we are feeling nostalgic, what can we expect to see and hear during your show? WENDY: Well, you expect Carnie to moon the audience. CARNIE: Now wait a minute! Ah who am I kidding? She’s right. I will wear my usual penis tiara. Wearing a penis on my head makes me feel like a queen! CHYNNA: Expect the unexpected with us. You just never know what’s going to happen up on that stage. We will be doing something that we’ve never done before but I think I’ll keep it a surprise! WENDY: It will be a little bit of time travel– with all of our hits and some of our favorite songs. Just one big party!

Rupaul - Realness
“Someone turns 18 everyday,” is a mantra RuPaul ruminated over during the creation of his eighth studio album Realness. Unlike Ru’s previous three albums from TV’s Drag Race era collaborations with producer Lucian Piane, Realness finds Ru back in the studio with Eric Kupper. WIth his help 22 years ago, Rupaul sashayed into stardom with his club-ready debut album, Supermodel of the World and club hits “Supermodel (You Better Work)” and “A Shade Shady.” Realness is no time capsule. With artists like Disclosure and Kiesza gaining acclaim for their blatant ru-packaging of late 80s/ early 90s house and dance music, Ru’s Ru-turn to his original sound is more than warranted; it’s welcome. The album bumps right from the beginning with “LA Rhythm,” a duet with lifetime cohort Michelle Visage; “If you stay ready, you ain’t got to get ready, OK!” Like Drag Race, cameos from Rebecca Romijn, Clairy Browne, Lady Bunny, Frankmusik and David Aude fill Realness, but don’t pull focus from the queen supreme. Intimate interludes like the love story of Ru and his partner make Realness real and more personal than any other prior Ru-lease. Previous Rupaul albums depended on camp but Realness, with its exceptional retro beats and intimate lyrics is an exception to the Ru-le. Available Now
Ibeyi – Ibeyi
“Ibeyi” is the Yoruba term for the divine spirit that exists between twins; it’s also the name of the 20-year-old FrenchCuban musical duo Naomi and Lisa-
Kaindé Díaz. Raised in Paris but in the AfroCuban tradition of Regla de la Ocha, a.k.a. Santería, Ibeyi melds their upbringing with the contemporary influences of jazz, hip hop and electronica. Signed to XL Recordings, record label to Adele, M.I.A., FKA twigs and Radiohead, the debut album from the duo was highly anticipated, living up to the tier set by their label mates. The song, “Eleggua” is a harmonious prayer to a Yoruba deity of the same name. “River,” about baptism and rebirth, begins with a bass heavy drum beat, treading on Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill. “River,” “Think of You” and “Weatherman” thread the ancient tribal beats of Africa and our contemporary hip-hop. Despite the simple instrumentation of the album, voice, piano and traditional percussion, the album is filled with personal lyrics. “Mama Says”–a song for their mother and “Yanira” for their late sister–are almost uncomfortable in their intimacy. Perhaps the most radio-ready song, “Stranger/Lover” takes an elegant approach to hiphop. Ibeyi is refreshing, worldly and above all else unaffected from all the studio techniques that convolute popular music today. Available Now

’Ho’s, Hexes & ’Mo’s Into the Woods (2014)
Maison Close (2010)
Starring: All-star cast, including Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick
Starring: Valerie Karsenti, Anne Charrier, Jemima West
Since the 1990s several studios and producers attempted to bring Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods onto the screen. It took nothing less than the Big Mouse himself to make it happen. The relatively small budget of $50 million forced cast and crew to accept pay cuts.
This popular French TV series comes to DVD for the first time. Set in a fashionable, classy bordello (a “maison close”) called Le Paradis in 1871 after one of France’s many uprisings, we meet the aging, but still lovely Véra, desperate to escape the brothel. Angèle and the other “belles de jour” practice the World’s Oldest Profession for the greedy yet insecure Madame Hortense, a lesbian. Alas! Poor Rosalie comes to Paris from the countryside, searching for her long lost mother, a former prostitute. She’s tricked–and trapped–into indentured servitude at Le Paradis while her virginity is auctioned off. This period soap opera has all the evil machinations and subterfuge of Dynasty, Dallas and the new Empire all rolled into one–but with bustles, hoop skirts, corsets, petticoats and other fripperies. With more sex. It is French, after all. Think Downton Abbey–but with a bunch of wild French whores instead of stuffy English aristocrats. In French with English subtitles, but don’t worry. You’ll quickly get sucked into the titillating histrionics and the lush, extravagant art direction. Available now. MSRP $39.95

Everybody knows by now the story is a “Who’s Who” of fairy tales, all thrown, well, into the woods, each with a task, upon completion revealing something spiritually more important about themselves. The art direction, costumes and lush orchestration easily stands out in this magnificent Sondheim musical, nearly an opera. Disney, however, insisted darker plot twists changed to make the picture more family friendly. Happily nothing is lost. How do you top La Streep as the Witch? You don’t. The One Note Johnny Depp is a miss as the Big Bad Wolf. Enchanting, entrancing and emotional. You’ll watch it again and again. Available now. MSRP $39.95

The Circle (2014) Starring: Sven Scheiker, Mathias Hungerbuhler Long before ION Arizona was around, before Phoenix Pride and the Stonewall Riots, a countercultural gay social network known as “The Circle” operated in Zurich, Switzerland. These men covertly operated with a certain degree of freedom. Beginning in 1942 they published a bimonthly magazine–like our ION–with racy photos, stories, poems and erotic art, distributing it to a large, heavily guarded subscription base. This docudrama begins in 1958 with dramatic scenarios intertwined with interviews and archival footage. The plot: Mild mannered teacher Ernst Ostertag (Scheiker) falls for the beautiful drag queen, Röbi Rapp (Hungerbuhler), performing at one of The Circle’s fabulous underground balls. Soon, Ernst gets a fire in his belly for recognition and gay rights, (and Röbi), even risking his job. After several gay murders with the city fathers making The Circle the scapegoat, the group was disbanded in 1967. Interviews with the aging activists and archival footage lend historic voice. Despite the faraway locale, this is the story of gay men and women around the world who fought for equal rights. Ernst and Röbi’s love story is real. Particularly winsome is the 83-year-old Röbi’s recent heartwarming performance of a song with lyrics from Ernst’s poetry. They were the first couple to be united in a civil union in Switzerland. Don’t be afraid of the German with English subtitles. The fascinating plot moves the story along. Submitted to the Academy of Motion Arts & Sciences for Oscar nomination for “Best Foreign Film” for 2014. Available now. MSRP: $24.95

The Moon and the Sun Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Kaya Scodelario, William Hurt
This action/adventure and fantasy film is based on 1997 historical/sci-fi novel. 17th century monarch, “L’état, c’est moi,” Sun King Louis XIV (Brosnan, TV’s Remington Steele series, James Bond fanchise) is determined to protect the future of la belle France by reigning for all eternity. His search for immortality leads him to capture and steal the life force from a lovely mermaid (Fan Bingbing, X-Men: Days of Future Past), but soon his 18-year-old illegitimate daughter (Scodelario, Skins) discovers the mystical creature and strikes up a friendship with her. Filmed on location in Versailles, it will be sumptuous and oh-so ooh là là! Prediction: period pictures usually flop at the box office. Opens April 10
Unfriended
Starring: Cast of unknowns “Online your memories last forever. But so do your mistakes.” Move over supernatural horror stories. There’s something new. And even scarier. It’s cybernatural (the original title). After all, what could be more frightening than Facebook, right? From the shaky camera/cinema vérité film genre of “found footage” that gave us The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity 60
www.IONAZ.com April 2015
Majesty & Meanies comes Unfriended. Popular high school girl Laura Barns (Heather Sossaman) commits suicide when an embarrassing video circulates when she was passed out at a party. One year later, six of her less popular (and more vicious) classmates chat via Skype when a mystery guest logs on using Laura’s old account who knows quite a bit about them. If they log out or stop talking, someone dies. The truth about who posted the video emerges and each others’ secrets are revealed, testing friendships. Just like Facebook. Lesson learned: don’t get “White Girl Wasted” at parties. Opens April 17
The Avengers: Age of Ultron
Starring: Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany The Marvel superheroes have their hands full. Desperately in need of a vacation since S.H.E.I.L.D. (an espionage, law enforcement and counter terrorism agency) was destroyed, Tony Stark (Downey, Iron Man franchise) jumpstarts a dormant peacekeeping program monitored by a self-aware, self-teaching artificial intelligence, Ultron (voiced by the always sinister James Spader, Pretty In Pink). “Everyone creates the thing they dread.” In true Frankenstein style, Ultron decides that humans are the real enemy, deciding to wipe them off the face of the Earth. The superheroes don their lycra ‘n’ latex uniforms and set out doing what they do best: save the world. Directed by Joss Whedon (TV’s Buffy, the Vampire Slayer) who also co-wrote the script with Stan Lee. Expecting lots of exploding things rocketing through the air accompanied by deafening sounds. Observation: Chris Evans is hot. Opens May 1

Eight’s Check Please! Y
ou can thank all those socalled “bleeding heart Liberals” for things like Affordable Healthcare, National Public Radio and the Public Broadcast System–better known as PBS. Here in Arizona we’ve got “Eight” (formerly known as Channel 8). Of course, there’s Sesame Street, The McLaughlin Report and Masterpiece Theatre. PBS also focuses on the local/state scene. Locally, Eight’s hit Check, Please! Arizona with host Robert McGrath (of Roaring Fork fame) is now in its fifth season. Known as the “series where you dine, then dish,” every Thursday night McGrath invites ordinary people–just like you and me– to weigh in on various restaurants, cafés and diners around the Valley. No gourmet doublespeak and claptrap about too much turmeric and not enough fennel. For the past three years, Foodies gathered Sunday, March 22 at CityScape for Eight’s Check, Please! Arizona Festival where over two dozen local, independently owned restaurants featured on past shows were invited to participate. Every chef’s kitchen was required to prepare a staggering 1,000 samples to a sold out crowd of hungry ticket holders. Up to 12 beer and wine pairings from participating wineries and breweries are included in the ticket price starting at $59 pre-advance purchase, $89 on the day of the show. (The lesson here: “Buy your tickets early!”) Eight’s Check, Please! Arizona Festival is a lot like the popular Devoured Culinary Classic, held every year in early March
at the Phoenix Art Museum. The selected restaurants and beverage vendors set up tents with pots, pans, skillets and woks serving up plates of representative samples of their best comestibles and drafts. This festival is a great way to sample a little something from some of the best restaurants across the Valley. It’s like a little smorgasbord! While everyone had something to bring to the table–so to speak. there was something to please everybody.
Texaz Grill If you’re longing for some stick-toyour-ribs food, this is the place to go. Nothing fancy, but prices reflect that. Legendary for their monstrously over-sized chicken-fried steak, their pork chops, liver & onions and fried chicken is the kind of grub that made America great. If you’re lucky you’ll get to try their chicken & dumplings on a daily special. We felt their TEXAZ Chili was lackluster, but don’t let that dissuade you from ditching your diet when you head here. Extra helpings of Love no charge at the Texaz Grill. 6003 N. 16th St. at Bethany Home Rd. Phoenix TexasGrill.com
Cowboy Ciao This celebrated Wild West brasserie doesn’t serve typical chuckwagon-style fare like you might imagine. Since 1997 they’ve some served rootin’-tootin’ Modern American vittles with a Southwest flair. We sampled their Pilaneilla-cured porkbelly with peach/ cascabel compote, agave crema & mint (pictured above). A festival champ. Question: What ‘n tarnation does “Pilaneilla-cured” mean? We couldn’t find the definition. Did they make it up? This fancified specialty was created just for the festival, but Cowboy Ciao April 2015 www.IONAZ.com 65
loses points because this larrupin’ delight isn’t offered at the restaurant, gol’ dangit! 7133 E. Stetson Dr. in Scottsdale CowboyCiao.com
Vogue Bistro Bar “C’mon ... Vogue!” You’ll groove to the Franco-American cuisine of this brasserie. They presented a gorgeous ballotine of pork & chicken with gazpacho and a salad of baby greens, pickled beets
and white balsamic peach vinaigrette (pictured). Not Julia Child? Neither are we, frankly. A “ballotine” is a deboned leg of chicken or other poultry stuffed with ground meat, other ingredients, tied & braised or poached. This lovely charcuterie is traditionally served cold. We agreed this won “Best of Show” for creativity, taste and an unexpected surprise taste of something different. Now we want to make the hike to Surprise for the whole nine yards. 154411 W. Waddell Rd. at Marley Park Plaza in Surprise VogueBistro.com
Rancho Pinot For over 20 years Rancho Pinot has been serving a seasonally inspired menu created by James Beard Award-winning Chef Chrysa Robertson. All-American favorites, like creatively prepared beef, chicken, fish, chops and more make them popular. We couldn’t get enough of the simple, yet succulent porchettastyle (suckling pig that’s butterflied, stuffed, rolled together and seasoned) braised pork served with a crispy, baked polenta (pictured top right). Juicy, flavorful and something your tongue will kick out the back of your teeth to get to. The à la carte menu is worthy of a special occasion, but still with a “moderate” price tag that won’t murder your wallet. 6208 N. Scottsdale Rd. RanchoPinot.com
Salt Cellar Since 1971 this “Old Guard” restaurant has been serving up classics like Maryland crab cakes, filet mignon, escargot, baked & stuffed lobster and much more. They served the old fashioned favorite: Sautéed Shrimp San Remo made with portabello mushrooms, tomatoes, onion, spices, lots of garlic and even more butter (pictured second from top). Best of all: they serve ‘til 1 a.m. Sinatra would’ve loved this place. 550 N. Hayden Rd. in Scottsdale SaltCellarRestaurant.com
Durant’s For over 60 years this fabled steak & chop house has been considered one of the great bastions for sophisticated dining in downtown Phoenix. The midcentury, mobster-like den of black banquettes with red wallpaper make people squeal for some reason. Like the classic tale of “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” the Big D. failed to impress us at the festival, forgetting to bring their “A game.” They donated a weird combo of a dreary strip of New York Strip Steak on a (cold) biscuit (pictured center) that had us pointing and saying, “There’s no ‘there’ there!” Sometimes a reputation just ain’t enough. #notimpressed. Just sayin’. Step it up. 2611 N. Central Ave. DurantsAZ.com
Amy’s Baking Co. Remember Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares when the hothead chef flipped out and walked out of Amy’s Baking Co. in 2013? We do. And we admit: we were looking for a heaping helping of Totes Crazy on Toast when we visited Amy & Sam Bouzaglo’s stall. Instead we found the two enfants terribles of reality TV to April 2015 www.IONAZ.com 67
be charming. Not only that, they served a fabulous orzo w/ fresh basil pesto, parmesan and sugar pea salad, perfect for summer. We loved their aromatic curry chicken salad– mayonnaise free (pictured above)! Amy’s tangy Key Lime Tart won our heart. Would we go to their restaurant? Absolutely.
Need something to wet your whistle? Southern Wine & Spirits sponsored a variety of fine breweries and vintners who were on hand to quench the crowd’s thirst with generous samplings of beer and wine. And I mean a very generous sampling. This festival is a great way to sample restaurants from around the Valley. ‘Til then, you can check them out on a TV near you on Eight’s Check, Please! Arizona.

MAKE IT RAIN! by Deon Brown 70 www.IONAZ.com April 2015
Beyond Labels with Supermodel Rain Dove
T
all, dark and handsome. The arrestingly exquisite 25-year-old Rain Dove’s brooding beauty and glamorous good looks are taking fashion runways by storm. She’s walked at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and modeled for Calvin Klein, H&M, JeanPaul Gaultier and Michael Kors. Marie Claire recently identified her as one of “Eleven Women Who Are Redefining Beauty.” Who is Rain Dove? She’s an androgyne, supermodel, actor, lesbian, humanitarian and she’s breaking the binary gender laws and the status quo about beauty for women–and men. She is signed on as, both, male and female with her agency. “It’s incredible what one image can do,” Dove reflected about her career as a model. “An image can tell people that its okay to embrace a different side of themselves, to stand out, to choose how they want to express themselves. And that has been such a rewarding process to be a part of telling people it’s safe to be themselves.” ION: Genderqueer, genderbender, genderfuck, androgynous, gender variant, male/andro, Let’s talk about labels. Rain: As human beings it’s important for us to be able to label things and communicate. Our labeling system has become so efficient that it’s become inefficient. What was used to streamline the world around us–he, she, red, blue–began to impede our ability to efficiently and politely tell somebody about our experiences and describe ourselves to each other because we have so many labels out there. It’s very difficult to define ourselves to
people without offending them. Personally, I don’t care what people call me as long as they have positive intent. People’s definitions of me do not define what I can do myself. It’s always an honor to have people recognize me in any form. Nothing anybody can say is truly definitive. The only truth is my word. ION: How do you feel being desired by straight men, gay men, straight women, gay women? Rain: An orgasm is an orgasm! I was kind of an ‘ugly duckling,’ (isn’t that every single model’s story you’ve ever heard?) Different forms of affection coming from different people who see a different thing has been really flattering. I’m openly dating. I’m ‘pansexual.’ I date whomever turns me on and gets me off. If you’re a good person, that’s what I’m into. It’s been a really great exploration so far. ION: How’s the fashion industry treating you? Rain: I get a lot of rejection–a lot of people do. You don’t need everyone to love you in this industry. Just the right people. The rewarding part is finding people who understand me–more than I understand myself. Helping me find part of me I didn’t even know existed through clothing and photography. The first time I did a female shoot I thought it was a men’s shoot. They said, ‘There’s no way we can shoot you as a man; you’re such a beautiful woman’ and I cried. I couldn’t think anyone could ever think I was beautiful. It changed the way I look at myself. ION: What makes you feel best in the presentation of your persona? April 2015 www.IONAZ.com 71
Rain: I’m a “gender capitalist.” I do whatever I feel is going to get me somewhere and I’m gonna capitalize on it. If I’m going to a club it’s better to be a female. I get free drinks, no cover. If the Titanic were sinking I’d also want to be a female. But as a male I think you get more respect; I feel like I can do a lot of work unapologetically–everything I do is right, everything I say is right. As a guy I feel more comfortable. As a female I feel more empowered. ION: I don’t see you wearing a frilly, flowered dress. Rain: Exactly! Every person has a difference sense. Sex sells and there’s different types of sex out there. Just because you can’t picture me in a floral dress doesn’t mean I wouldn’t wear one or that my body doesn’t deserve one. But it definitely signifies that we’ve created a construct that defines what people should or shouldn’t wear or how they look. ION: You’re signed on with your agency as both, male and female, but model as “all capacities of the human condition.” Rain: That was really important to me. Other agencies at the time told me that “male” was the only gender they would sign me as. When I was younger I felt like an ugly woman. I didn’t really care! I just didn’t feel like a cute sorority girl who would seduce a guy into buying me a cappuccino at Starbucks. I love my body. I’m not going to feel ugly. Offering me an opportunity as a female was an important thing. There are different kinds of women. Everyone has limitless expressions. We are infinite human beings. ION: Tell us about Queer Fashion Week. Rain: It’s difficult to be associated to something with the word, ‘Queer.’ People don’t really understand what it means. It’s 72
www.IONAZ.com April 2015
important to note that it’s not about showing off queer clothing. Clothing doesn’t have a sexual preference. It’s about showing commercial industry that there’s consumer value to the queer culture. No private company is responsible or obligated to represent anyone in any way. No one has to be diverse. But consumer power can change the way they advertise. ION: What’d the greatest lesson the fashion industry needs to learn? Rain: It needs to remind itself that it’s a commercial industry and an art industry. People who buy these products are not stupid. People are just looking for representation of who they are. ION: What do you say to a young man or young woman or young person who is struggling with a different need for presentation of their gender? Rain: There’s a difference between social dysmorphia and body dysmorphia. A lot of people identify as ‘trans’ because they feel not that they’re unhappy with what their body is giving them, but what society is giving their bodies. They’ll change their body physically in order to gain different certain privileges or treatment that we give to people with a different set of genitalia. I want people to realize they are not alone. Transgender is beautiful thing. I want people to rise up against social dysmorphia. People want to express themselves differently. Nobody has the right to tell you what feathers or scales or colors you should be representing yourself with. People might make fun of you, but that’s part of the problem; people are afraid. People who tease us will never have that time back. Ever. The way you choose to be can never be wrong. If everyone does it, then it’s ‘the cool thing to do.’ You have your body for only so long. There’s a whole world out there to explore.
There’s much more than going out to a club, getting drunk and vomiting on your friends in a $50,000 car and saying, ‘I’m not doing it again!’ ION: What would you like for people to know that might surprise them about you? Rain: I eat constantly! Also, I do as much humanitarian work as possible. I do a lot of physical work; I love landscaping. My agency hates it–I always have dirt under my nails. Even though I’m doing high fashion modeling, walk in heels, wear $30,000 worth of clothes, I still get my hands dirty. I’ll never be too glam to get dirty. ION: Who would you like to walk for? Rain: I would love to walk for Jean Paul Gaultier. I’ve modeled for him; he ‘gets’ me. I’d like to walk for Victoria’s Secret. They need me, I have great tits: 32 DD. I can walk in heels like nobody’s business. They need to take a chance. Rain is part of Queer Fashion Week, April 16-19 in Oakland, CA. She will also appear on the VOD series Dyke Central to be released on April 10. Check out DykeCentral.com. She was part of the Oxygen Network’s January 2015 four-part series, Living Different.

he rainbow reflects millions of colors within the spectrum of light. We see pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Subtle variations of color are hidden from the human eye including black and white. People are the same as the colors of the rainbow. We often only see the ones who really stand out. Others may be inconspicuous, still shine just as brilliantly, but we may not always see them with our limited scope of vision. This doesn’t mean that they aren’t just as beautiful, adding to the magnificence of the entire, vibrant display. ION Arizona magazine recognizes these beautiful people who are like the colors of our rainbow flag and make our community dazzle. Look for them everywhere!

n honor of all the new Easter shoes purchased at a Payless ShoeSource near you ... this month’s Favorite Bitch is all about ‘hos on the go! All over busses, streets and taxi cabs. Their boots were made for walkin‘ ... right into some bullshit! Dear Miss Tiger, I take the Light Rail to work every weekday morning. I sit in the same seat every day. I stare at the same male passenger all the time. He’s over six feet tall and has these incredibly large feet. I want to invite him out for drinks. How do I do so while riding the bus and not feel somewhat embarrassed? — Trent Dear Washington West To Central Station Stalker, Boo, you’re on public transportation for God’s sake! And you’re really worried about being embarrassed? Motha fuckahs are puking, adults are talking to imaginary friends, folks are having bipolar moments, geriatrics are shitting in their Depends Undergarments and domestic disputes run amok. Trust me when I say ... ya ain’t got shit to worry about. P.S. I know you’re an undercover size queen, Trent. But don’t be fooled into thinking he has a big dick just because of his Hush Puppies ... their bark may be louder than the bite given to your rear end. NEXT! Dear Miss Tiger, I throw on a pink wig and give blow jobs to random guys all the time. How do I remain a slut and still walk down the street with dignity? — Tina
Dear Your Momma Named You Right, I highly doubt you walk the streets with any dignity ... more like hand-in-hand with your pimp. NEXT! Dear Miss Tiger, I was on vacation in New York City. I got in a cab and the driver literally turned around and asked if he could suck my dick! Should I report him to the mayor? — Curtis in Scottsdale Dear Feed The Meter, Darling, you should’ve busted your marbles down that Hungry Hungry Hippo! The money you saved on cab fare would’ve covered at least two or more trips to Starbucks. By the way, do you really think that complaining to the mayor’s office is gonna get you anywhere? Bitches are gettin’ run over by busses and trains ... and are still waiting to be heard. You really think the mayor gives a shit about some perverted troll going the extra mile to provide customer service? Wanna talk to me LIVE about this kind of bullshit and more? rom the “It Happened in Aspen” Files: Have you ever noticed that handsome Cameron Goebler (A) looks an awful lot like that cute kid Freidrich (B) from The Sound of Music? Some of Fred’s Alpine skills might’ve helped our little Tyrolean tootsie B Cameron out when he slalomed downed the slippery slopes of Aspen recently, breaking his gorgeous femur. Ouch!
But there’s always a silver lining! (Or C titanium, in this case, since Cam has 15 inches of the stuff in his leg now.) Cameron and Endodontist to the Stars, Dr. Kevin Axx (C),“Trump Bumped” elbows with trillionaire tartlet Ivanka (D) at the Prada boutique. Cameron saved the day when he helped fashionality Donna Karan (E) with an Instagram upload! DKNY is one of Barbra Streisand’s besties, so it’s kinda the same as hanging out with Babs. So through “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon,” So now Cam and Babs are buddies, too. It’s all quite logical. People who need people!

Please don’t “striptease” the animals! Phoenix ex-pat and hottie Joel Anderson (F) spent thousands of dollars getting a big, fancy engineering degree at A ASU and he’s putting his skills to work, girlfriends! Joel done packed up and moved to Los Angeles and he engineered a way for his moneymaker to earn a little moola as go-go guy “Johnny Ford” at Fubar in WeHo and Ripples in Long Beach at the weekly “Adonis Lounge” parties ... hunkfilled parties where it all comes off! If anybody can engineer an erection, it’s Joel. And I ain’t talking about a building, either, E dolls! It’s a good thing I just happen to be an Erection Detection expert. And that diploma didn’t even cost me one red cent! There are some things that you learn in life that you don’t have to go to school for.

I look forward to seeing you all at Splash Bash and Pride. Make you sure you misbehave, too! I’ll be there watching!

pril 4 brings us a dramatic “Total Lunar Eclipse of the Heart.” So turn around, Bright Eyes. This wolf-howler of a Moon will mean purging relationships and material items. It may be extremely emotional, but calm down. Mercury’s superior solar conjunction on April 10 prior just in time for Splash Bash! enabling you to gather relevant information and share these facts with friends and lovers. Celebrate with all of them! Show your Phoenix Pride!
Aries Mar. 21 - Apr. 20
You’re a “Me first,” kind of person. Your childlike, unbridled excitement is infectious. You’ll have a crowd surrounding you at Phoenix Pride. Birthday Rams bring a new perspective to an important project or event like Splash Bash.
Taurus Apr. 21 - May 20
You’re a no-nonsense kinda person, but deep down you’re really sensitive and you take things personally. Don’t be so butt-hurt all the time. A birthday finds you living large and in luxurious surroundings, like a day at Splash Bash!
Gemini May 21 - June 21
Virgo Aug. 23 - Sep. 22
You’re a thinker and problem solver. You get to the root of a problem through relentless interrogation, freaking people out. Sudden moves, biting and slapping make you retreat, which is odd, considering your own tactics.
Libra Sep. 23 - Oct. 22
You’re a fickle lover. Did you know that you have a reputation for that? Well, the cat’s outta the bag now! You’re not exactly a slut, but you are a heartbreaker. You’re emotional and eager to please. And, boy, do you ever!
Scorpio Oct. 23 - Nov.23
Pluto is your ruling planet, taking 246 years to revolve around the Sun. I’m not saying you’re slow, but this makes you, let’s say “methodical.” Like the icy planet, you never sweat. You will not be denied anything. Not anything.
Sagittarius Nov. 23 - Dec. 23
You’re naturally adventurous and this month you’re open to new situations. It might be professionally or romantically. Answer “yes” or “no.” It’s up to you. But try to use a little tact for once.
Capricorn Dec. 23 - Jan. 20
You dread boredom and crave intellectual stimulation. On the downside: you abandon hobbies and grand, but unfinished projects are common. Your creativity is given full reign. Now if you can only stick with a project...
You’re dependable and loyal. Caps make good teachers, bankers and bureaucrats because you love being mired down with details and lots of red tape. Live a little! Let your hair down for Phoenix Pride!
Cancer June 22 - July 22
You’re typically a rebel and love to act up, but you also really dislike unpleasant situations and bad behavior in public. You hate being denied freedom or choice. That’s why Phoenix Pride is so perfect for you.
Keep your butt plug in your hole! Your moody nature makes everything so damn complicated. Admit it: you know this. Phoenix Pride is coming! Do something unexpected and shock others. Don’t get arrested.
Aquarius Jan. 21 - Feb. 19
Pisces Feb. 20 - Mar. 20
Your compassion, brilliant conversation and talent make you a strong friend. Your ability Your bold and brazen nature make you a to sense undercurrents and detect anything leader. Your animal magnetism makes you “fishy” going on is typical. Still waters run the center of attention, but don’t let your controlling nature drive everybody crazy. Yes. deep. You’ll “hook” a new friend at Splash Bash. We said it: you drive everybody crazy. Don’t act surprised. You’re still loved.
