Jock Jack Good-bye and Hello! The one thing that is constant in life is change. Change can be a good thing or a terrible thing:
Good-bye Sen. John McCain Whether you agreed with his political positions or not, Senator McCain was not your typical Republican. He voted his way, good and bad. He was a war hero and twice a presidential candidate. Arizona has been known to elect unique Senators like McCain and Barry Goldwater. Mr. Goldwater said he didn’t care if gays fought in the military, as long as they could shoot straight. That was in the 1960s! John McCain will be missed and has big shoes to fill. His seat won’t be available until the 2020 election. He was 81.
Good-bye Barbra Seville’s Wonderful 100 After 10 years, next month will be Barbra Seville’s Wonderful 100’s last time fundraising for AIDS Walk Phoenix. Since then Barbra and her committee have inspired and motivated hundreds of people to march and raise thousands of dollars. Don’t worry, she will still be a driving force for Aunt Rita’s and still rules every Saturday night with The Barbra Seville Show at The Rock!
Hello Fall Desperado Film Festival Like Aunt Rita’s AIDS Walk which is moving to February after this October’s event, another iconic event is moving. 22

Barbra Seville’s Wonderful 100 retires from AIDS Walk Arizona

en years ago Richard Stevens commandeered his drag persona “Barbra Seville” to form a team to walk for the revived AIDS Walk Arizona. The goal was simple: 100 people each raising $100 to be distributed among Valley HIV/AIDS agencies through Aunt Rita’s Foundation. No one thought they could do it. On July 21 Stevens made an announcement on Facebook: This will be the last AIDS Walk for Barbra Seville’s Wonderful 100. “This seemed like the perfect time to turn the reigns over to someone else,” he said. “Over the years we’ve probably sold 100,000 Jell-O shots, 50,000 raffle tickets, and thousands of t-shirts. This year’s goal for BSW100 is $45,000. That will bring the team’s lifetime total to a quarter of a million dollars.” That’s a lot of walking. “A long time ago, I realized the money we make is a drop in the bucket,” he continued. “Our team really succeeds and reaches its goal by empowering people and by building our community.”
part of the committee for four years, doing a lot of the heavy lifting at events. Jaime and his sister Annaliz agreed that making friends is important. “I like the sense of camaraderie, and I love seeing how all the hard work pays off,” Jaime said. Iván McGrew is a bartender at Charlie’s.This is his first year as part of the committee. “I saw the opportunity to be part of this and decided, ‘Let’s make it big!’ I’m recruiting the bar staff and coordinating and getting others to walk. We’re gonna lose some sleep after a long Saturday night at work, but that’s a small sacrifice to make. Though this is the last year for BSW100 I’ll always be involved in some capacity.” George Herrera is a dedicated committee volunteer. “It gives me the opportunity to help organize and excite people about raising money. Our goal is to bring awareness, unite and motivate the team each year. Does it get stressful? Without
An entire generation has never known a world without HIV/AIDS. “This has been important to me because I’ve known so many people affected by HIV/AIDS who’ve simply given up,” Stevens explained. “The Walk gives our team a way to say, ‘You matter! We care!’ A lot of people think The Walk isn’t necessary now. But as long as people are uneducated or miseducated about HIV, the Walk will be needed.” The BSW100 committee lends muscle and makes the magic happen.

question! But when you look at the team total and the sea of people wearing a BSW100 shirt the day of the walk, it makes it all worth it.” The reward for Kobalt’s co-owner Jeff Perales is multifold. “I like being able to participate on a grass roots level, make ads, sell raffle tickets and sign people up.” Kobalt helps from beginning to end; the team meets there the morning of the Walk, and celebrates after with lunch. “When I look back on ten years, I have so many favorite moments; but really, my favorite is when we fill those light rail cars. I always get away for a moment and look at it from a distance; it makes me so proud. I cry every year.” Richard Stevens isn’t giving up. “I will definitely be walking next year. The only difference is I’ll get to sleep in because I won’t be in charge,” he promises.

Friday, September 28 Reception: 6:00-7:30 p.m. with Kenny Thames on piano
Riot
Riot - 7:30 p.m. “Let’s get this party started!” Australia’s path to LGBT equality has its own touchstones and watershed moments. On June 24, 1978, a demonstration commemorating the anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion turned violent as protestors were dispersed by police and dozens were arrested, despite the fact that they had permission. Though most charges were dropped almost immediately, some of the accused were beaten in their cells, and The Sydney Morning Herald published the names of the arrested the next day. Many were outed to their family and friends, and fired from their jobs. Riot shines the spotlight on the movement’s activists Down Under, recounting that first Mardi Gras with this dramatic and riveting, true story about identity, courage and love from a marginalized community in the Land of Oz coming together.
Saturday, September 29 TransMilitary - 12 p.m. Can you guess the largest employer of transgender people in the United States? It’s the military. But each day, more than 15,000 active transgender military personnel face uncertainty. Their careers and commitment to country they’ve made are in peril, actively threatened with a transgender ban.
Riot troops give human faces and hearts to a political issue. With an all-access pass to the day-to-day reality of these passionate, diverse Americans, we watch them do their jobs, bond with family and friends, and fight for their right to defend our liberty. They risk their livelihood by being public about their transgender status in an effort to improve the lives of all soldiers. The film skillfully paints a picture of an upsidedown world in which the security of our country and the rights of all Americans are measured against who can use which bathroom. While the transgender ban was lifted in 2016, its status remains uncertain under the current regime. This powerful documentary by Jamie Coughlin took home the Audience Award at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.

Bitter Melon
This feature-length documentary tells a story of love, marriage and a fight for equality. The film chronicles unlikely heroes—octogenarian Edie Windsor and her attorney, Roberta Kaplan, on their quest for justice: Edie had been forced to pay a huge estate tax bill upon the death of her spouse because the federal government denied federal benefits to same-sex couples—and Edie’s spouse was a woman. Offended by this lack of recognition of her more than forty-year relationship, Edie decided to sue the United States government ... and won. Beyond the story of this pivotal case in the marriage equality movement and the stories behind it, the film also tells the story of our journey as a people, as a culture, and as citizens with equal rights. Bitter Melon - 4 p.m. A strange marriage between domestic violence and dark comedy makes this a standout. An eventful, long Christmas weekend affects members of a FilipinoAmerican family with a history of abusive men. The Santos clan convenes for a rare family reunion—although fortunately, the drunken, violent father’s whereabouts are unknown. The youngest son, Declan, is gay, and lives in Manhattan. The eldest, Moe, makes his home in Philadelphia. The unemployed middle brother, Troy, lives at home, carrying on the tradition of wife beating while his mother excuses his behavior. Things come undone when the siblings meet face-to-face at the family home in San Francisco for the first time in years. 40

Wild Nights with Emily
Despite the bleak premise, the picture is often boisterously funny. Complex tone and texture keep it interesting and invigorating.
Wild Nights with Emily 6:30 p.m. “Tell the truth. But tell it slant.” Who knew that the legendary (and reclusive, eccentric, kooky crackpot) Belle of Amherst, the American poet Emily Dickinson, wasn’t the shrinking violet we thought she was? Though it is certainly a comedy, the picture is anchored by a surprisingly touching love story between Emily (played by SNL alumnus Molly Shannon) and her friend from childhood, Susan Gilbert. Their teenage romance develops during 19th century sleepovers that would make 21st century parents blush. Soon, Emily is heartbroken to learn about Susan’s secret engagement to her brother, Austin, but softens when Susan explains her plan for them to be together. Sure enough, the newlyweds build their house right next door to Emily’s, and a lifetime of early morning scurrying across the lawn ensues. See what you missed in your American Lit class?
Tucked
Tucked - 8:15 p.m. “I don’t think that what’s between my legs define me. I try not be stuck in a box.” Set mostly in a drag bar in Brighton, England, this film won awards at Outfest. We meet veteran drag queen Jackie Collins after he receives a diagnosis that he has six weeks to live. All Jackie wants to do is perform his long-running act and behave as if all is normal, but between a new friendship with a rising young queen, Faith, who finds inspiration in Jackie’s fearlessness and eager to be his protege. But first Jackie has some unfinished business with his estranged daughter. He may just have the most eventful month and a half of his life. The heart of this touching dramedy is in the odd parent-child relationship that develops between Jackie and Faith. Jackie has some hard-won worldly wisdom for the younger performer, Faith also encourages Jackie to reach out to his long-lost daughter. The tale of two performers helping to heal each other may have been told before, but the details are fresh, and the actors shine in this slice of life “feel good” drama about love, loss and friendship.

Sunday, September 30 SHORT FILMS - 1 p.m.
Magic H8 Ball
At press time the schedule of short films is being finalized. Here are some highlights of the films already selected and scheduled.
Magic H8 Ball Burned by a cheating boyfriend (and a mild case of chlamydia), Adam, a nerdy, insecure, people pleaser is a heartbroken pushover who turns to a mysterious Magic 8 Ball for the answers about repairing his shattered life (and venereal disease). But as he starts giving into his impulses, he risks his hurt turning into hate and losing all control when the evil prognosticator takes on a mind of its own, manipulating Adam’s broken heart and pushing him down a darker path. It’s about more than being funny, more than being gay, more than breaking up or the stigmas surrounding STDs. It’s about freedom, expression and self-love—even when we deserve to hate the most. Wild, heartfelt, and refreshingly inappropriate. See more at MagicH8Ball.com
Sam Did It Sam is about to meet his celebrity idol ... the only wrinkle to this meet ‘n’ greet is that Sam works in a hospital morgue ... and his idol is dead. This is a dark comedy exploring how a fan’s world can be impacted by the loss of an idol. 42

L
ocal personality Aneesh Ratan spearheads “Live 101.5 with ‘The Morning Mess.’” Ryan Santana is a hits homers and steals a few hearts and bases on (and off) the softball field. “I currently work at IHeartRadio, but my dream job is to be a stay-at-home mom. I really need to work on my baking, but I’ve been progressing.” In the meantime, the two premiered their weekly YouTube infotainment series, “The Gay Sports Report” last month with the help of producer Adam Alcocer. Topics run the gamut from sports gossip, including “How cute are the uniforms?” and the Gay Games. (“What’s this? The Bears fighting the Twinks, or Tops fighting the Versatiles fighting the Bottoms?” questioned Aneesh.) The zany “Hot or Not?” separates the big league heartbreakers from the bush league crushes. Sometimes the pair discusses
technicalities. (Aneesh: “How would you know about his pitching skills?” Ryan: “Ummm ... because I watch the MLB channel?”) Sometimes they talk about strip club etiquette. (“Here’s a dollar, baby ... have a McDouble on me.”) Aneesh explained the genesis of the show. “Ryan has always wanted to get into sports broadcasting. My advice to him was he should just start doing your own report. Like ... a gay sports report! I’ve never heard of anything like it and it would entice someone—like myself—to actually engage in sports. We came up with amazing stuff together so we decided to take on this new project together with Ryan’s friend Adam assisting with production. Producer Adam Alcocer commented, “I grew up with Ryan and he reached out to me to help with the filming and editing of the show. We try to keep the show upbeat and fun, but at the same time I felt that we could get serious and talk about things that need to be talked about.” “My favorite part is having a perspective like my own. (One with no real knowledge of sports in general),” said Aneesh. “It makes the show refreshing and in many cases, purely comedic.”

ION: Explain what a “Face Off” is.
ION Arizona asked Ryan, Aneesh and their producer, Adam, a few questions about the show. ION: What is your favorite sport? Ryan: Baseball, of course! I played baseball in college, and I also played professionally overseas. Aneesh: The ones with no blood. Not cute. No blood.
Aneesh: Wow ... So is this another Xtube category?! Ryan: A “face off” is an ice hockey thing. But I’m gonna go ahead and make it my own. So a “face off” to me is when you are 1-on-1 with someone else just serving face, henny! Snap, snap! ION: Anybody off limits? Ryan: Jake Lamb is off limits. He’s mine! Everyone else is fair game.
ION: What exactly is a “Fantasy Team”? Ryan: I play fantasy sports with my college teammates ... still. But the phrase “fantasy team” seems to me like it would be a team I put together full of all of my favorite professional athletes—that is, all the cute ones. Aneesh: It sounds like a category on Xtube I have yet to explore. Adam: A showdown between Team Centaurs vs. Team Unicorns.

Girls Gone Wild
Colette
E
very age has a few gals to watch out for. As they say, “Well-behaved women seldom make history.” This pair of noteworthy girls with lesbian tendencies who shook things up in radically different ways ... one with an axe, one with a pen. Sisters are doin’ for themselves.
Lizzie Starring: Chloë Sévigny, Kristen Stewart, Jamey Sheridan Fall River, Massachusetts was a bustling town in 1892. Well-to-do, stingy Andrew Borden (Sheridan, Homeland) had a family, and a comfortable home with a maid, Bridget (played by dead-eyed, open-mouth breather Stewart, Twilight franchise.) Mr. Borden’s unlikeable, old maid daughter, Lizzie (Sévigny, American Horror Story, season 2) and Bridget get a-rustle under their bustles (wink, wink), hatching a plot. We’ll give you 40-whacks if you can’t guess what happens next in this thriller based on the still unsolved reallife, landmark case. Opens: Friday, September 14 LizzieTheFilm.com
Starring: Keira Knightly, Dominic West, Denise Gough Some things never change. During the turn of the last century, Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette (1873-1954, played by Knightly, Pirates of the Caribbean franchise), a comely young lass from the country marries a dashing city slicker, Henry “Willy” Gauthier-Villars (West, Pride) a writer from gay Paree. Colette writes the autobiographical Claudine books, a wildly successful series of (then) racy novels, under her husband’s name, eventually fighting for creative control and recognition. The first modern celebrity couple, they were the Branjelina and Bennifer of the demimonde. Ever the libertine, Colette explored everything the world offered, including wearing pants, smoking—and giving herself freely to the gender-bending Mathilde de Morny, Marquise de Belbeuf. Sacré bleu! A critical hit, Colette was directed & cowritten by Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice). In the day and age of Harvey Weinstein and the “#MeToo” movement, this will resonate stronger than ever. Opens: Friday, September 21

Nicki Minaj
Queen
Ex-lovers, her brother’s arrest and the rise of Cardi B made the much anticipated release of Queen even more compelling ... except Queen is shockingly dull. It’s not only decidedly more rap oriented, but also exhaustingly self indulgent. Her bars on “Hard White” read as if women in rap are solely characters on Game of Thrones. Minaj redeems her paranoia with the crossgenerational duet “Coco Chanel” with 90’s queen Foxy Brown. Available Now
Troye Sivan
Bloom
With an arsenal of 80’s inspired synths and subversive lyrical content (the song “Bloom” being an ode to bottoming. Surprise!) Troye Sivan’s sophomore release solidifies him as the pop star the world needs in 2018. Ballads like “What a Heavenly Way to Die” and “Postcard” sit between bangers like “My, My, My” and “Dance to This”—a duet with Ariana Grande. Bloom is a must-listen. Available Now
Mitski
Be the Cowboy Conservatory training and a point of view that seems to wrap the best of 90’s icons like Fiona
Apple and Shirley Manson into the one, mononymously known Mitski broke through with her 2016 release Puberty 2. It’s follow-up Be the Cowboy perfectly straddles genres to sum up to this year’s best indie release. The Cardigans-eque disco banger “Nobody” is perfection. Available Now
Ariana Grande
Sweetener
Heir apparent to true divadom, Grande’s debut and sophomore albums relied on range and cameos to make up for the spritely, polly pocket lack of depth in both her stage presence and distinct point of view. Sweetener sees the ingenue pushing her pen on 10 out of 15 tracks to create what feels like her first true artistic endeavor. She cleverly reworks Imogen Heap on “goodnight n go,” an EDM ballad ready for radio domination. Available Now Cher

Whats the “T” Venus Starring: Debargo Sanyal, Jamie Mayers, PierreYves Cardinal, Gordon Warnecke Sid Gill (Sanyal) is yearning to let the captive woman living in his biologically male body out. “My body is a costume I can’t take off,” she says. That’s why the only explanation is that she surely must be from the planet Venus. Sid’s biological immigrant family, boyfriend and chosen family, and her own sense of self are challenged in heartfelt ways. Genders, generations, and cultures collide in this dramedy about modern family life. A South Asian-Canadian transgender woman, Sid, sees her life turned upside down when she meets Ralph (Mayer), the loving, precocious 14-year-old son she didn’t know she had, who tracks Sid down after discovering his mother’s diary, revealing his paternity. When his new mother reveals to him that she’s transgender, he gives her a fist bump, saying, “Cool.”
Sid’s gender identification issues. The film’s central theme—the desire for love and integration—is universal. Don’t expect a weepy, violent drama with a trans victim. plenty of charm and fun sandwiches the serious issue of transgender identification. Mayers delivers an especially enthusiastic, sweet performance as “Ralph” tempered by Sanyal’s nervous, yet bullshit-free “Sid.” Eagle-eyed film fans will recognize Sid’s dad (Warnecke) from his performance in gay classic My Beautiful Laundrette (1985). An indie with a small budget shows the execution, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t watch this. You should. Definitely. Available September 4 on DVD and VOD with Wolfe Video at WolfeReleasing.com & Amazon.com

Groovy Grandma L
ocally crafted coffee, breakfast & brunch with “composed breakfasts” (we’re not really sure what that means, but they do stipulate that there are no substitutions, please. So don’t get all high maintenance on ‘em, okay?) We mourn the closure of Coronado neighborhood gems Tuck Shop and Astor House (why? WHY?) They added such unexpected flair (and taste!) to Central Phoenix dining. Downtown coffee joint Mornin’ Moonshine is also a thing of the past. The connection? They sprang from the imagination of owner DJ Fernandes’ imagination. Fortunately, his independently owned and operated baby Vovomeena is still alive and kicking five years after helping inaugurate the intersection of 7th Avenue and McDowell Road, now (unfortunately) peppered with chains like Five Guys, Potbellies, Starbucks and The Habit. Vovomeena—”vovó” means “grandmother” in Portuguese, and “Meena”
DJ’s granny’s name—is clearly a labor of love, and everyone loves it back. We sure do! The menu features some of their own tried and true crowdpleasers—like the Mexican Benedict with poached eggs, chorizo, tomato, cilantro and hollandaise on sopas—French toast (with their own spin), the creative 3 Sisters Omelet with black beans, zucchini, feta cheese, choice of meat and even a Classic Egg Sandwich. Check out the Southern staple, Biscuits & Gravy with a big ol’ buttermilk biscuit, a spicy, white sausage gravy, and two eggs on top, any style. The biscuit is dense without being a brick (like some can be) and fluffy at the same time. $10.50. We added a side of two plump, grilled sausage links for only $2.50. Filling? What do you think? Big appetites will cheer for the B.M.O.C. with a massive, honey-glazed, smoked pork chop, a thick, airy waffle, two eggs and a Portuguese donut (a lot like an old fashioned donut), with a splash of apple-maple syrup. Who can turn this down? Hands-down, it’s the favorite with everyone and singled out as the champ on every review. Give in to temptation. Order the pair of generously filled Savory Crêpes with scrambled eggs, generous chunks of diced chicken September 2018 WWW.IONAZ.COM 65
breast, Swiss chard, a rich, nutty Fontina cheese topped with a splash of romesco sauce (an almond and red pepper-based sauce originating from Catalonia) stuffed in a thin, delicate, lightly sweetened crêpe for $9.95. It’s hard to pass up other luscious goodies, like the Banging Pocket where you’ll find a banger (sausage), two scrambled eggs, and smoked gouda stuffed into a pita served alongside delicious fried potatoes. $9.95 If you’re ducking in for something a little more brunchy on the way to the office, check out their “Weekday Only Offering.” Four mouth watering items make a decision difficult. Try the Palmcroft
Pita with plenty of smoked turkey, bacon, gouda, and scrambled eggs. You won’t leave hungry. Note that all the sausages, bangers and pork chops come from—where else?— Schreiner’s Sausages, supplying the best restaurants in town. Coffee lovers will go bananas for some of the best joe in town. The beans come from The Roastery of Cave Creek. The trick for their iced coffee is a Japanese method that requires 12 gallons of ice water poured into a contraption, and taking 12 hours for a velvety smooth, rich flavor, and more caffeinated than a regular brew. A few different spices, like orange peel and ginger, means you can order a flight o’ java for only $5.95 Order at the cash register and seat yourself in the simple dining room. Be aware that parking in the miniature lot is a bitch, enough to test the patience of Job, but the reward will be worth it. So come ... eat. Eat some more. Grandma says you look thin.

his September, the Phoenix Gay Flag Football League will be sending close to 60% of their athletes off to Denver for the National Gay Flag Football League Gay Bowl (NGFFL). Gay Bowl is the pinnacle of all tournaments for the national league. It is hosted by the NGFFL with four divisions: A, B, C, and a Women’s Division. PGFFL has been traveling the last three years with two co-ed teams, Arizona Arsenal and Phoenix Blast. This year they are excited to announce a third co-ed team, Bad Hombres of Arizona, along with their first ever Women’s team, Phoenix Fahrenheit. These four teams will be competing alongside more than 60 other teams from across the United States for the winning trophy. You may be interested in traveling with one of these four teams, or perhaps you just want to play in our local league. Since their spring 7 versus 7 season the PGFFL has grown by 50%, and they are looking to continue the expansion into the fall season. This year they are elevating their fall season game from 4 versus 4 to 5 versus 5. This will provide their athletes more time on the field to develop their skills and athleticism, while connecting with each other through the competition of flag football. The Friday Night Lights 5 on 5 season is open now! You have until September 5 to register at PGFFL.com. If you miss the deadline there will be a supplemental draft in three weeks, so don’t stress if you do. We do an official draft system which helps build teams evenly and allowing our athletes to be exposed to different playing levels. Experience the fun with the athletes at Phoenix Gay Flag Football. ancing for one•n•ten was a terpsichorean treat for one•n•all! Evidently craft services chintzed on the deli meats and canapés in the Green Room, because hostess with the Mostess Barbra C Seville couldn’t resist nibbling on the scrumdillyumptious co-winner, instructor Jacody Bullard in the lobby. (A) Who can blame her? Lookin’ like a snack! Aaja, aaja jind shamiyane ke tale! Jai ho! Well, hello, Dehli! That whirling dervish Kalp Parickh and his vivacious vindalooloo instructor Shannon Perkins got all Slumdog Bazillionaire on the audience with a spectacular Bollywood dance number. (B) Fashion prediction: hot urban turbans are the Next Big Thing. “Oh, you can kiss me on a Monday, a Monday, a Monday is very, very good. Or you can kiss me on a

Tuesday, a Tuesday, a Tuesday, in fact I wish you would ...” Speaking of Tuesday Pugsly Mahrle ... in a A resplendent horticultural riot of floral print, Tuesday and that scorching hot fivealarmer charmer, firefighter Emm Jay (C) had me picking in my pocket for a packet of FloraB Fresh. (I can tell you one thing: my Miracle Gro™ sure was working! If you know what I mean. My begonia was blooming! Wink, wink!)

Meanwhile, that doeeyed beauty Cozi Phifer cuddled up in the lobby during the intermission with handsome housemate Tanner Cordell, who we might see competing in the event next year. (D)
Meanwhile meanwhile, former contestants Katie Hobbs and Joen Romero Martínez (E) were doing the Mashed Potato. Far out! Meanwhile meanwhile meanwhile, those Charlie horses Gabriel Browne and ... wait! ... F is that? Yes! It’s my darling Piper M’Shay (in her

Radio show personality. Retired former George Michael impersonator. Phoenix Treasure. Rat catcher! If you loved the heartwarming Disney J movie Ratatouille, (H) well ... this story is nothing like that. It’s probably a little more like Willard. (I) Poor, dear Clayton was recently held hostage in his own home by a pestilential rogue rat who was steadily gnawing his
way through Clayton’s kitchen appliances. The entire Great Rat Chase was captured on film via Nest and played out on Facebook. Talk about Reader’s Digest Drama in Real Life! The ultimate “Game Show Bae” enthusiast lived out a real life fantasy (well, one of them, anyway. This is one that I’m allowed to print.) when Stacey “Farmer Gay” Jay Cavaliere, was singled out to spin the “Wheel of Misfortune” for Arizona’s own reality TV star Tempest du Jour when she brought her “Retro Game Show” to Valley Bar. he blue planet Neptune will be closest to the earth, illuminated by the Sun, visible all night long, if only as a tiny dot on September 7. Neptune operates your inspiration, dreams, psychic receptivity, intuition and enlightenment. This makes you a little melodramatic, so don’t ignore reality. The “invisible world” can suck you in. Divide and conquer with the Autumnal Equinox on the 23rd with nearly equal amounts of day and night marking the first day of fall. The Harvest Moon on the 25th is a good time to remember you reap what you sow. ARIES Mar. 21 - Apr. 20 The spotlight is on you and shows off your strengths. You will make a statement that will amaze some, but confuse others. That’s just the way it is sometimes, though. You know that. Question your own motives. TAURUS April. 21 - May 20 You often give more than you take. Be cautious, especially if cash is involved. There’s always a filthy moneygrubber around the corner. Pay attention to your own welfare. A gift is in the mail! GEMINI May 21 - June 21 It’s hot. The Sun and Mars could steer you into a meltdown. Nobody wants to see that. Nurture yourself. A burst of energy helps you confront “stuff.” Like family, career, love. Questions are answered. CANCER June 22 - July 22 Mars retrograde is over, but now it’s inversion has you feeling kind’ve squeamish and things seem a little weird. Don’t worry. Well, not too much. You face something that’s good for you, but doesn’t seem like it. LEO July 23 - Aug. 22 Prosperity dominates the horizon. Not only that, you’re feeling emotionally stable, too. That’s good. (Sometimes your UMS–Ugly Mood Swings–make you unpredictable. Not like you don’t know that!) Focus on health. 98

VIRGO Aug. 23 - Sep. 22 Optimism is your trademark. Your enthusiasm draws people to you. Birthday Virgos are curious and will make an astonishing discovery. Not like a new country or anything, but something special. LIBRA Sep. 23 - Oct. 22 It’s no secret: you are complex. But you’re fabulously socially adept. Your calendar is full. This birthday brings someone who knows how to sweeten the deal and will charm the pants off of you. Literally. SCORPIO Oct. 23 - Nov.23 What’s going on with your relationship with the environment? It’s not just about plastic straws, but where do you fit into the future? Your unconventional approach wins you recognition. That’s a good feeling! SAGITTARIUS Nov. 23 - Dec. 23 Thank goodness you’re not codependent. You do what you want to do. You get things done because that’s just the way you are. You’re like a puppet-master. Others listen to you. So speak up! CAPRICORN Dec. 23 - Jan. 20 A long awaited reward is coming. It also brings an opportunity for you that carries extra responsibility; it’s worth it. You have flashes of insight that reveals something you’ve been questioning. Try something new, either food, or in bed. Or both. AQUARIUS Jan. 21 - Feb. 19 It’s time for you to be intellectual about an emotionally charged situation. That’s hard for you because you love wild hysterics. (Oh, c’mon! You know it’s true.) You make a wise decision affecting your career. PISCES Feb. 20 - Mar. 20 Things have been intense lately. By the time the Full Moon rolls around you’ll unleash a cycle of creativity—like writing, painting, acting, or even reorganizing your sock drawer. See what you can accomplish when you set your mind to it?
