I
Tattoos, Dancing & Bratwurst, Oh My!
f you’re like me, you love Arizona. But you love it a little less in the middle of the summer. Yes, it’s hot. Yes, it’s a dry heat. Did I say it’s hot? So our job is to distract you from what’s going on outside using a little misdirection. First, Arizonans love their tattoos. In fact, it could be considered another addiction ... a sexy one. People who get one can’t stop getting another, and another ... Personally, I love them if done correctly especially if they have deep connection with their life. My roommate performed CPR on a 2-year-old that nearly drowned at a pool party and saved his life. The date and time of the event is his newest tattoo. I haven’t had the courage to get one. Yet. This month, we showcase members of our community and their sexy tattoos. Be sure to check out the feature about music artist JayyVon Monroe as well as his amazing ink. We also have an interview with one of the LGBTQ community’s favorite musical allies, Betty Who, fresh from her Beautiful Summer Pride Tour, coming to the Crescent Ballroom on August 14.
The best way to beat the heat is to dream about fall. We’ve created a new event, coming October 14. It’s the first ever LGBTQ Oktoberfest! We’re calling it Sausage Fest! To help ION launch this new event, we recruited the talented artist Glen Hanson to create the illustration for our logo. Glen is known for his pop art illustration, animation for the Shiny Toy Guns music video “Ghost Town,” t-shirts, the comic strip “Chelsea Boys,” and the “Paper Doll” costumes for Lady Gaga’s 2014 “Art Rave” tour, for starters. We’re planning on a day of fun at the Wyndham Garden Inn Midtown Phoenix— home of over 13 Splash Bashes—with swimming, volleyball, games, contests, marketplace, and, of course, sausages and beer, all ending in a live performance by a national recording artist. Do you want to know who? Follow us on Facebook for the announcement this month. So this month, get a tattoo, see you on the dance floor, at the Betty Who show, and remember to clear your calendar for October 14. Until then, stay cool, get out and have some fun, and of course, use ION as your guide to your community.
It’s finally here! Dancing with one•n•ten is August 13. You saw all the contestants in the July issue of ION. Who will win? Who will blow the judges and the audience away? There’s only one way to Jack Tesorero find out! Go to Tempe Center for the Arts Tattoo Lover for this popular and exciting event. Get your tickets at onenten.org/dancing 16

Joey Sarandos June 30, 1971-July 19, 2017
For those who knew him, Joey was our muse. He played the role utilizing his endless inspiration and creativity. He inspired us and always brightened the room. He made us feel like we were good dancers—even when we weren’t. Joey believed that with the right outfit and with enough confidence, you could get in anywhere. (He was right.) Joey gave of his gifts freely, improving and beautifying the lives of the people around him. Reflect Joey’s light. Embody Joey’s passion. Dance. Get out of your creative comfort zones and live a brighter life. Make things pretty. Shop! Give the world the light and the love that Joey so freely gave to those he cared about. Never let his light fade or dim. Make use of the skills he shared. Go be fabulous! Services were held on Saturday, July 29 in the chapel at Greenwood Memory Lawn in Phoenix.

ION: Tell us something about Betty Who that you’ve never told anyone before.
ION: What’s the best (and worst) part of being “Betty Who”?
Betty: Let me think about this ... I may have told somebody, but not in the press: I was born in the bath! I wasn’t even attended; it was supposed to be a home birth. Obviously I was a very big baby, as you can imagine (I’m 6 foot 2, so it’s not hard to picture). She was in so much pain during labor that her midwife said, “You should take a bath, it might relax you.” I started to come when she was in the bath so she said, “This is happening! Let’s do it!”
Betty: The best and worst part might be the same. The best part is getting to see the world, but the worst part is that sometimes I miss being home and having time to myself. But they both complement each other. I’m so grateful to get to travel as much as I do. Every now and then I miss waking up and walking to my favorite coffee shop. It’s one of the things I don’t get to do anymore, and that’s okay. I didn’t realize it was going to be that hard on me and it has been.
ION: You encourage your audiences to let go of their insecurities. Betty: I hope so! That’s definitely part of my plan—one of things I’d like for people to feel while they’re at a show—that they don’t have to think about anything in the outside world. I love to create an environment where they can exist and just be themselves for a couple of hours. 28
WWW.IONAZ.COM August 2017
ION: You recently wrote, “My entire career has been shaped by the LGBTQ community.” Do you think things would’ve been different if you had pursued a mainstream audience? Betty: It was kind of an accident. A happy, beautiful accident, but an accident nonetheless. I’ve never
August 2017 WWW.IONAZ.COM 29
really “pursued” an audience. I don’t know what it would be like. I don’t think it was supposed to happen any other way because I never put anything out thinking, “These are the choices I’m making, these are the people I want to listen to my music.” I never did that. I was just, like, “I’m gonna put some music out!” and now here I am, five years later! Anybody in this industry will tell you (behind closed doors) that they aren’t where they want to be, because you never are. Not even the most famous singer in the world, because you never are. There’s never a moment where you think, “That’s it! I got what I wanted!” It’s never gonna happen. It’s really hard to stay present and know when a good thing’s a good thing. I’ve been working at being really grateful for what’s happening as it’s happening, as opposed to ignoring what’s going on as it happens and continuing to say, “I need to be here. I need to be here!” because then you miss the journey. That’s not the point. I’m not doing this to get somewhere, I’m trying to experience life as we go. ION: The 2013 marriage proposal between Spencer and Dustin in a Home Depot with a flashmob was set to your song, “Somebody Loves You” went viral. Did you ever think you’d see your music as part of the soundtrack to people’s lives? Betty: That was always my plan! I’ve always wanted to make music 30
WWW.IONAZ.COM August 2017
that accompanied people along their journeys. I always wanted to be that presence that’s creating an environment while people are having a good time. I want to make people feel really good about themselves, confident, or introspective, whatever the song is. I want to create music that gives people a space to explore who they want to be. ION: What’s the soundtrack to your life? Betty: Currently “Wild Thoughts” by Rihanna and the entire Superfruit EP. It’s amazing! They’re incredible! ION: If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be? Betty: I wish I had a super palate where I could taste anything and say, “Oh, it needs this ... it needs cinnamon ... whatever! I wish I were a better cook, I mean, I’m good, but I’m not great. My superpower would be to make all food great—kick it up a level. one•n•ten fire creates need for more supplies. The big news that rocked Phoenix happened at about 11 a.m. on July 12. Darren Beach, a mentally and emotionally troubled young man, since arrested, deliberately set fire to the one•n•ten building on 3rd Street at Weldon Ave. The building was unoccupied. Details of the incident have been well-documented on social media and local news agencies. The center relocated to new headquarters at the Parsons Center for Health and Wellness at 1101 N. Central Avenue, near Roosevelt Ave. More importantly, our Valley’s LGBTQ youth still have basic supplies and

needs that need to be met. You can help. Sought after at this time are gift cards from clothing stores, Target, Party City and Walmart, as well as bus passes (single day, seven day and 31 day). OUTdoors! Camp is approaching. This event provides valuable social and leadership skills for our youth. Use this as an opportunity to help them replace needed supplies. You can help one•n•ten when you shop online. Check out their “Wish List” on Amazon.com or use smile.amazon.com and choose 1N10 Inc. as your charity. Seville’s Wonderful 100 organizes for AIDS Walk Arizona. It’s that time of year! AIDS Walk Arizona is right around the corner. This annual event benefits the Aunt Rita’s Foundation and her 16 partner agencies providing services for education, prevention, and essential services for those affected by HIV/AIDS. Nine years ago Richard Stevens organized the team using his alter ego as its namesake. The simple goal then was as it is today: “Barbra Seville’s Wonderful 100” is 100 people raising $100 each. It still works, always exceeding expectations. As one of the top fundraising teams, they bring in ten percent of the entire Walk’s earnings. Last year the team raised $32,000.
Look for an afternoon of video games, pop up drag with Olivia Gardens, Piper M’Shay and Coco St. James at Cobra Arcade Bar, downtown Phoenix on Sunday, September 24. The next event is High Heel Bingo on Monday, August 7 at 9 p.m. hosted by Olivia Gardens. Wear your favorite heels. There will be a raffle, prize for best heels and, of course, Bingo. Kobalt, 3110 N. Central Ave. AIDS Walk Arizona will be Sunday, October 22, downtown Phoenix. Be part of the magic! “Like” the team’s page on Facebook. You can register online at Wonderful100.org or at any of the events.
What motivates Stevens? “I, our committee, and our walkers keep doing this because we know there are others who can’t,” he said. This year the team’s goal is bigger than ever: $25,000 and sure to raise more. A full calendar of events is currently being scheduled, including a Bake Sale and Turnabout Show at The Rock, a special Drag Brunch, and a Bar Crawl. August 2017 WWW.IONAZ.COM 43

Cuckoo Birds
Ingrid Goes West Starring: Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olsen, O’Shea Jackson, Jr. If you see one #twisted, #freaky, #funny, and ultimately #disturbing movie this summer, this should be the one. Spooky Ingrid Thorburn’s (Plaza, Life After Beth) life is in a downward spiral. She becomes obsessed with social media California based Instagram influencer, Taylor Sloane (Olsen, sister to creepy twin celebs), moving to the Golden State because, you know, #YOLO. In a Talented Mister Ripleyesque move, deluded Ingrid hashtags her psychotic way into Taylor’s perfect life with #OMG results. Opens August 11
Tulip Fever Starring: Alicia Vikander, Christoph Walz, Dane DeHaan, Dame Judi Dench Feeling a little high-brow? This is for you. Screenwriter Sir Tom Stoppard (Brazil, Shakespeare in Love) brings this gorgeous, Dutch cinematic Vermeer painting to life. In the 17th century, the Dutch created a zany investment market where one perfect tulip bulb could be exchanged
for an entire estate. Kind of like the Beanie Babies craze of the 1990s, except magnified a million times. Millions of Dutch gilder were spent (and ultimately lost) on a single tulip bulb.
Forced into a loveless marriage, Sophia (Vikander, The Danish Girl) weds merchant, Cornelis (cinematic meanie Waltz, Big Eyes, Inglourious Bastards, The Legend of Tarzan). She has an affair with an artist (the tragic, but magic DeHaan of the horrible Two Lovers and a Bear—you might remember the March 2017 DVD review of that stinker in ION), and star of the glowing The Place Beyond the Pines). They risk everything during “Tulipmania.” Will their love blossom? Or wither and die? Much like the ill-fated tulip craze, this picture nearly died before it bloomed. It originally began filming in Great Britain in 2004 with Jude Law and Keira Knightly starring, but canned because of UK tax laws. Other issues plagued production. One Direction’s Harry Styles was cast as a singer appearing in the film named Mattheus, but was forced to cancel; he was replaced by Glee’s Mr. Nice Guy, “Will Schuester,” Matthew Morrison which will give Gleeks something to look forward to. This film promises to be a Rembrandt in the world of filmmaking. Opens August 25 August 2017 WWW.IONAZ.COM 53

HAIM Something to Tell You
With their 2013 debut, Days are Gone, HAIM combined their obsessions for 90’s R&B and the greats of the 80’s to create a catchy, cross-sectional, distinct sound. The three sisters also write, record and play every instrument you hear. The meticulous harmonies and melodic genius found on their debut made them the indie darlings for the last four years, landing them a spot opening for Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour. For their long-awaited follow up, Something to Tell You, HAIM took the formula from their debut and amped up production. The lead single “Want You Back” is a contemporary Wilson Phillips’ “Hold On,” making you want to stomp toward your ex-, fast singing “I’ll give you all the love I never gave before I left you.” You hear the echo of tour mate Taylor Swift on the title track, and otherworldly siblings Michael and Janet Jackson in “Ready For You.” The girls bounce through all their influences, channeling Don Henley and Tom Petty on “Tell Me Nothing’s Wrong,” “Little of Your Love,” and the unsung hero of Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie on “You Never Knew.” HAIM falls short when they attempt something in a more contemporary realm, like the very Katy Perry sounding “Found it in Silence” and Ariana Grandeesque “Walking Away.” They play like record label failsafes, ironically failing the trio. At the end we get to what they’re trying to tell us with the achingly beautiful break up songs “Right Now”
Aural Fixation
and “Night So Long,” another crosssection where Stevie Nicks meets Adele. Beat by beat, HAIM have let it be known that they are the girls of summer. Available Now
Lana Del Rey Lust for Life It’s odd that the melancholia and malaise of Lana del Rey has amassed her such a large gay following. Perhaps it’s the combination of Nancy Sinatralike vocals and denim cut-offs. Attend a concert and you’ll notice a collection of young gay men singing along in their own ironic-Americana daze. With her strongest outing since her debut, Lust for Life, rests on laurels of Instagram caption style lyrics and gloom glam. Lana teams with A$AP Rocky, the Weeknd, Sean Lennon and even the original queen witch herself Stevie Nicks for the tongue and cheek “Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems.” Lust for Life is full of sexy, slow tempo ballads, perfect for cat-like lounging around the pool. Gone Girls Girls Season Six
often than not dysfunctional posse, should be able to ramp up enough to enjoy it. The whole series is bingewatching worthy in measured doses.
Starring: Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirk, Sosia Mamet, Adam Driver, Elijah Rannells, Peter Scolari HBO’s series Girls was the show I initially loved to hate, full of angst and PMS. Produced by creator and star Lena Dunham and Judd Apatow (who’s specialty seems to be painfully heterosexual stories about painfully obnoxious people, usually starring the douche-y Seth Rogan), the series flourished with stories that were irritating, hilarious, obnoxious, touching, painful, yet often oddly satisfying. Writer Dunham (Tiny Furniture) had no problem immodestly proclaiming her own self to be “the voice of a generation.” Let’s just say that if you loved Sex and the City, you’d hate Girls. The final season tied everything up with a messy, laughable bow—a lot like real life. Even the occasional viewer who dipped into the wobbly misadventures of the whining writer who never manages to write anything, Hannah (Dunham), her hugely self-centered millennial gal pals Marnie (Williams), Jessa (Kirk), Shoshonna (Mamet) and their more
Season five ended with Hannah getting pregnant by a sexy, tool of a surf instructor (the handsome Riz Ahmed, The Night Of) during a writing assignment about girl surfers. Now the ramifications of motherhood hit, with Hannah moving to upstate New York, but without that prize winning piece of literature, and without Adam (Adam Driver, whose performances are always genius.) Look for lots of “happily ever afters” in the coda, including her fab gay bff, Elijah (Rannells, Book of Mormon, The New Normal) and her late bloomer gay dad, Tad (Scolari, of 80s sitcom Bosom Buddies fame). Sadly, the last episode doesn’t include a swan song for Jessa or, more interestingly, Shoshanna, who grew from the most insipid, nebbish character into the most interesting, powerful, and well-rounded woman of all the Girls. I may not always understand girls, but I’m pretty good at understanding Girls. I’ll miss these gals. ★★★★☆

Home is Where You Park It
here’s two kinds of “camp.” One is uniquely queer, a little outrageous, sometimes a little taboo, like “Old School” homos doing a Bette Davis imitation. The other kind of “camp” is like what you do when you go to the woods, live in a tent and learn how to tie knots and build little fires. Like the pioneers used to do. You might’ve camped in the woods during the summer when you were a kid, before you discovered shopping and brunch. So when Camp Social opened this June up on (surprise!) Seventh Street (where else?) we thought, “What kind of camp will it be?” It’s like the kind in the great outdoors, except they brought it to the great indoors—with air conditioning and cute servers. All kinds of clever references to “roughing it” pepper the space: old fashioned camper trailer installations, wood paneling, tire swings, canoes housing lighting fixtures, bathroom sinks resembling hollowed out logs, and high above the rafters, a mesmerizing starry night sky is projected onto the the ceiling. They also have a game room with shuffleboard and arcade games. Of course, the gigantic, flat screen TVs over the bar broadcasting sports aren’t really
something you’d find, say, at the bottom of the Grand Canyon— but they’re everywhere these days. Like ticks and poison ivy. Over 200 happy campers quickly stake their claim when the dinner bell rings, so get there early for quick seating. If you like, you can sit at the community tables on the misted patio. You might even make some new friends! Ready for vittles? You won’t find any Beanie-Weenies, but there’s a few nostalgic references to camping cuisine peppering a menu that’s a lot better than the Sloppy Joe’s you had as a kid. Start off with “Trail Snacks.” The appetizers include their own trail mix, meatballs, hobo stew and more. Don’t miss out on a French Canadian favorite: Poutine. It’s our northern neighbors version of chili cheese fries. French fries are topped with cheese curds, fried pickles and smothered in a rich, dusky elk gravy we loved. The generous $12 skillet feeds plenty of hungry mouths. Don’t pass up the crispy Lamb Scrumpets, a real favorite. The lean, seasoned, shredded lamb is formed into a Twinkie-sized “log,” crumb-coated and deep fried. Top sparingly with the strong, stoneground mustard. $12 Yearning for a sandwich? Choose from five listed under “Bannock & Bread.” August 2017 WWW.IONAZ.COM 59
or clams, or even alligator sausage. Veggie options are available, too, or build your own. $14-$18
(Bannock is a traditional, quick-rise bread favored by Lewis & Clark, Kit Carson, Daniel Boone and campers everywhere. Who knew?) You won’t regret the tender, flaky, lightly battered and Fried Walleye with a chili tartar sauce and iceberg lettuce served with toasty, spicy French fries. The burger, rib-eye sandwich, smoked brisket and chicken are all served on “tin can rolls”—a short-cut to baking where bread rolls are truly baked in a tin can ... even at Camp Social! $13-$19. The “Skillets & Pots” offerings showcase more “high class” entrées, like Wood Grilled Trout, Ocean Fish Fry, Pasta with Duck Confit, and Wood Grilled Rib-Eye. We picked a cheese Ravioli with burrata, pesto and pistachio sauce and a dash of balsamic vinegar for $18. It didn’t win an overall blue ribbon compared to other “wow” treats we had. When a food runner noticed our disappointment, the management voluntarily removed it from the bill. “O beautiful! For spacious pies!” Pizza pies, that is. Check out the 12 diverse and creatively prepared pies named after great American national parks. Pizza here is graced with everything from Maine lobster to smoked trout 60

Something you’d like not on the menu? Ask the server if they’ve got a special snack in the back pantry. They just might have something just for you. Make sure you leave room for the ultimate camping experience: Do-ItYourself S’mores. Create your own campfire confection with a platter of homemade Graham crackers, a Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bar, and giant, fluffy homemade marshmallows. They bring out a small, flaming, iron cauldron plus skewers for you to toast the ‘mallows to construct your S’more. Camp Social didn’t forget the “snakebite medicine” for the “counselors.” They have a full bar including daily infusions made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Happy Hour is from 3-6 p.m. (The “Lazy Sunday” serves two and served in an old fashioned thermos. $18) You can leave civilization behind for a while at Camp Social while you’re “roughing it, easy.” The only thing missing? Ghost stories, knot tying and snipe hunting. You’ll be a happy camper at Camp Social. Tell ‘em John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt sent you. CAMP SOCIAL 6107 N. 7th St. 480-750-0506 CampSocial.com

olorful. Honest. Complicated. Talented. Philosophical. Creative. Witty. Practical. And more than a little bit wild. Artist JayyVon Monroe has lived several lifetimes already in his 25 years. Taking a break from music, he recently returned to his roots in Phoenix. As part of the electronic music duo, “Blood on the Dance Floor” from 20092016, often performing at the Van’s Warped Tour. Think you’re popular? JayyVon has over 227 thousand followers on Twitter, 139 thousand on Instagram and more than 90 thousand subscribers on his YouTube channel. Devoted followers create fan art. He kept his image honest, yet carefully crafted and artistically authentic. His newly released music video, It’s All on You, is erotic, beautiful, even a little shocking. And very much JayyVon. His tattoos also tell a lot about him. A tattoo on his arm quotes Oscar Wilde: “Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future.” JayyVon’s doesn’t mask his confidence. “I never ask for understanding. If people don’t ‘get it,’ I don’t need them to. I’m self-qualified.” His story starts in Jacksonville, Florida. “I moved out at 15 and was part of Goth and Fetish night at a club as a Club Kid & entertainer. They never checked my ID and hired me as a host since I didn’t drink. I grew up as part of the MySpace generation, I was 18 and I shocked a lot of people. As I got older it became inappropriate. Then I got serious, especially because younger kids were looking up to us.” Body art tells just part of JayyVon’s story. “I’ve had piercings since I was 14 and tattoos since I was 16. I want a full body suit by the time I’m 35. My tattoos are on my body for all eternity;
they’re like my children. Tattoos on my hands—or on anyone’s—are my favorite.” Tattoos are a commitment, telling about a time and place in someone’s life. “My biggest pet peeve is when strangers ask, ‘I want a tattoo, but what if I don’t want it five years later?’ If you like something that was part of your past, it’s part of your character, your story, so why not have tattoos from your past?” Another facet of JayyVon’s story involves the creation of his drag persona, Dahli. “I didn’t have a name for her until a few years ago. Before that was just Club Kid drag.” JayyVon described Dahli as a combination of a Fetish Freak and Tribal Fusion. “Being a drag queen is cheaper than therapy,” he once said. “Dahli allows me to present a side of myself that’s always there. When a physical attribute is added, there’s an entirely different side. Even my voice changes. I have a different appeal to my style of drag that’s not widely accepted right now. I have a separate fan base for my drag persona.” You can see the exotic Dahli perform on YouTube. Self-discipline and hard work made JayyVon into who he is today. “I would like to think that I set a decent example for a few different people. I dropped out of school, but it didn’t stop me from achieving everything I desired. The small town in Florida I’m from had no opportunity for anyone like me. I had all odds stacked against me.” Marrying two distinct and important parts of his personality together was a challenge. August 2017 WWW.IONAZ.COM 65
“The biggest molds I’ve broken are about gay people and their stereotype and alternative people and their stereotype. You don’t see many gay guys involved in the alternative scene or many alternative people who are gay. Those two worlds make up everything I am—plus my drag. Finding acceptance from the gay world and alternative world is hard work. JayyVon shared a very practical philosophy about his own life. “Sense, reason, cause & consequence. Those are the only four things I go by.” He expanded, “I’m not very spiritual at all. I believe most organized religions have a consequence for not doing good deeds, but I do good things because I’m a good person—not because there’s any consequence I could be facing.” 66
WWW.IONAZ.COM August 2017
JayyVon is continuing on with a solo music career, returning to California. “I’ve had an EP completely written and finished since December that’s coming out in October. There’s a big fan base waiting on my music.” In an existential moment, JayyVon reflected, “My only regret is not having any regrets. I feel like I should have some kind of fear—and I have none. People who have regrets are so concentrated on doing the things they didn’t do, they’re not as involved with what’s going on around them. Then there’s too many missed opportunities.” And one thing’s for sure: JayyVon Monroe never misses an opportunity. You can hear JayyVon’s new music on Soundcloud, Spotify, iTunes, Apple music, or music streaming apps. Andre Apodaca Tattoos often carry a special significance and meaning. André explained that the tattoo on his arm is a compass surrounded by three white flowers. “The compass is for guidance and the flowers represent those from a state or province where I’ve lived.” Some tattoos indicate how we see ourselves. “I’ve always associated and related to the ‘bear’ community. I got my paw print tattoo around the time I found confidence and acceptance in being a gay man.”

Steve Marquez Gotta catch ‘em all! The colorful tattoos on Steve’s legs are Pokémon. “They represent my love of the game for the last 21 years.” The tattoos on his arms represent imagery from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The sword on his left is for the King under the Mountain and his right arm is the broken sword, Narsil. The illustrations on a portion of his chest piece represents the seven Harry Potter books, with Casper “Well, it’s my ex-.”
The Borg Queen from Star Trek is his love. The male symbol was his first tattoo; the blue one on his right bicep is the Scorpio astrological symbol.

Matthew Nelssen Matthew described his body art: “Lots of my tattoos are based on architecture from the palace of Versailles. There’s also a lot of horror movie references and a ton of stupid, inside joke tattoos.” The famous Queen of France figures prominently in his body art. “I have an entire arm and multiple tattoos elsewhere that are Marie Antoinette inspired. There’s one of her drinking champagne, the tapestries in her private chambers. The heart on my cheek is for Marie Antoinette, too, but most people think it’s a prison teardrop. There’s other tattoos referencing decorative railings at the palace.” Some art is more personal. “The ‘R’ on my face is the initial of my valentine, my dog Radford.” Matthew might be familiar to readers as his drag persona, Holly Peña Popper. 82

irthdays. It’s the one day of the year that’s all about you; however, sometimes when folks blow out the birthday candles ... they don’t always get what they wished for. Favorite Bitch®, invites you to celebrate these delicious tales that truly are ... the icing on the cake! Dear Miss Tiger, I feel really bad about ruining my best friend’s birthday. It should’ve been his night but I made it all about me. What should I do? — T for Trouble Dear “A” for Asshole, Let’s see ... Try getting on your knees (for something other than giving a blowie) and apologize! Dear Miss Tiger, I’m so mad at my brother’s girlfriend. I’m a tree hugging and animal loving lesbian. Why the hell would she buy me a fur scarf for my birthday? — Carrie Dear Looks Like Somebody Needs To Get Their Dream Catcher And Meditate, Girl, I blame your brother. When he told her you were into muffs ... she simply thought you’d like a scarf to go with ‘em. Dear Miss Tiger, My co-worker’s birthday party was at a gay nightclub. I saw more of my brother’s ass on stage than when I changed his diapers! I knew he was gay but I absolutely had no idea he was stripping! How do I get this boy to stop? — Misty
Dear X-Ray Vision, Trying to keep your brother away from stripping ... is like trying to keep a hillbilly away from OxyContin. It’s just not happening! Dear Miss Tiger, I’m planning a birthday celebration for a friend, but he doesn’t want a party because he’s depressed about breaking up with his boyfriend. — Omar Dear Tell Birthday Boy That Boyfriends Are Like Leased Cars - Ya Trade ‘Em In Every Two Years, And on that note ... NEXT! Dear Miss Tiger, My sister’s son just turned three-yearsold. She has no idea who his father is. Our family is in crisis. What should we do about finding the father? — The Tichenor Family Dear Like Needles In A Haystack, Face the fact that your sister has seen more penises than a public restroom ... so forget about searching for baby daddy! Dear Miss Tiger, I busted my husband celebrating his birthday at a strip club. He was getting a filthy lap dance and get this - he had his finger inside the stripper’s panties. Help! — Olga Dear Finger Lickin’ Good, Darling, be glad he was fiddlin’ with cabbage in a strip club ... and not bobbin’ for eggplant in an adult bookstore! Miss Tiger

ho says there’s nothing to do in the summer in Phoenix? Well, sure. That’s kinda true. But “stuff” is happening all around us. The Greater B Phoenix Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (or the GPGLCC for short) invited everyone to be part of their annual “Biz Bowl” at the Let It Roll! Bowl lanes in beautiful Sunnyslope. This year everybody bowled like it was 1985. Let’s get physical! Physical! I wanna get physical!

Get ready for some good news: that handsome star of local musical theatre Stephen Serna is getting married! Long time beau Guillaume Terrisse A proposed to him on July 26 in Barcelona, Spain! (C) ¡Que romantico! And all this time I hoped I stood a chance with Stephen! Closest I ever got to a proposal was when someone asked me for a “handie” behind the dumpster at the McDonald’s on the American side of the border in Nogales back in 1991.
Publicist extraordinaire, that “bae” Ty James Largo (D) got “stung” in D downtown Los Angeles (cool kids call it DTLA, FYI) last month when he was walking back to his room at the Ace Hotel with quesadillas at 1 a.m.–like any normal person would–and security tells him, “Wait a sec!” Why? Because Beyoncé emerged from her limousine at the exact same time Ty arrived.
