e Student Ministry of e Saint Paul’s Baptist Church endeavors to be a beacon of light and life that guides our young people towards a prosperous path that is led by Christ and illuminated by His love. As a ministry of believers who stand both aligned and united with pastoral vision, we embrace the mantra set before us and rea rm 2017 as e Year of the Disciple!

As such, we lift our own Core 5 Strategy and declare that in 2017 the Student Ministry of SPBC will “Pick Up STEAM!!!” In 2017, we will:

GRADUATE SUNDAY 2016

e student ministry celebrated graduates in June of this year. Over 60 members ranging from high school to graduate level students participated in our graduation service and reception.

SMB MOVIE NIGHT

e student ministry sponsored a movie night on Friday, July 22, 2016. Students enjoyed a lm, snacks, and fellowship. A er the lm, students participated in a discussion on overcoming adversity.

BGC YOUTH RETREAT 2016

On July 29, 30 SMB students joined students across the Commonwealth for a weekend of worship, fellowship, enrichment and fun on the campus of Virginia State University. e theme for the retreat was “It’s Bigger an Me!”, and examined youths’ relationships with missions and outreach.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL BLAST 2016

On August 12th, over 50 members of the students’ ministry spent a day engaging exhibits of two African American trailblazers in art: Artist Kehinde Wiley and Photography Legend, Gordon Parks, at the VMFA. We then traveled to the Science Museum. Over 850 backpacks were distributed to the community across all campuses.

SMB PAINT PARTY

On August 19th, students took advantage of the opportunity to express their creativity in the area of visual arts by participating in a youth Paint Party on our Creighton Campus.

RITES OF PASSAGE CROSSOVER CEREMONIES 2016

Both the Sons and Daughters of the King middle school mentoring groups and e Kisura and Lions of Judah high school mentoring groups held their Rites of Passage Crossover Ceremonies in 2016. Both ceremonies were attended by over 60 people. ere were four middle school graduates and two senior graduates.

HOMECOMING 2016

Activities included a Videogame Truck, “Wipe Out” Simulation, Wrecking Ball, Laser Tag and a Dunk Tank.

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT 2016

Over 100 teens enjoyed a Videogame Truck and Bubble Soccer at this annual celebration.

SMB’S GOT TALENT

Held on November 4, 2016, this event was set aside for youth to display their gi s and talents.

SMB COMMUNITY HOT SPOT

Held on November 18, 2016, this event was an evening of praise, worship, fellowship and fun where the youth of SMB joined with other youth in our community in creating connections and celebrating Christ.

STUDENT TRIP TO WASHINGTON D.C.

65 students traveled to Washington D.C. on December 10th. Activities included a viewing of both the Martin Luther King, Jr. and Abraham Lincoln memorials and a tour of the Smithsonian Museum of African American History.

SUNDAY MORNING STUDENT FAITH FORMATION GROUPS

In January 2016, the students’ ministry began hosting small groups on Sunday morning. ere were 6 groups across all campuses that meet weekly.

TAKEOVER AT THE BOWTIE

Over 100 students took over the BOWTIE for a special SMB showing of Hidden Figures. Students learned about the contributions of African American women to the space program and gained inspiration from this amazing lm.

A DAY WITH DR. BYRD

A er viewing the Hidden Figures Film, students assembled on that following Sunday to hear from Dr. Julie Williams-Byrd, who works for NASA’s Langley Research Center. Over 165 students gained information about the space program and how vital African Americans were to the work.

SPBC COLLEGE FAIR

Over 30 colleges and universities spanned the SPBC Creighton Campus on March 18th. Over 100 youth received information on admissions, funding and other aspects of educational planning.

BURGERS & BIBLE STUDY

Held on May 19, students came out and enjoyed burgers while learning what it means to be a true disciple of Christ.

RESURRECTION SUNDAY 2017

In conjunction with the ministry team, during the 10am and 12pm Resurrection Sunday Services, students were led in a re ective discussion on the relevance of a Resurrected Christ in their life in a contemporary context.

TIES & TUTU’S

A Ties & Tutu’s social was held for students on June 17th, 2017. Students enjoyed a night of food, fellowship, music and fun while showing o their best ties and tutus.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2017

VBS was held on all 3 campuses this year and saw great gains in attendance. Students learned what it meant to GLOW for Jesus!

L.I.T. BLOCK PARTY

e Living In Truth Block party was held in July of 2017 and was attended by over 100 youth, who danced, sang and participated in various activities.

BACK 2 SCHOOL LOCK-IN 2017

Over 50 students attended the Back-to-School Lock-In held on August 25th. e theme for the event was Flashback Friday, and activities included a worship service, “Real Talk” sessions, games, and a 90’s party.
