STILL LIFE and
By Wendy Struck
W
alking through the streets of any village, town, or city, can be a rich experience. Architecture is an art form that many of us enjoy. It is accessible to us all as we wander our own neighbourhoods or visit new ones. It could be argued that the star of the architectural show is the door. Many doors are themselves pieces of art. They come in all shapes, sizes, colours and materials. The image of the door is universal. The famous William Blake quote “If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite” presents us with the door as metaphor. It’s been said that when one door closes, another one opens. Doors can represent new beginnings and opportunity. Doors are both entrance and exit. They separate and connect. The door is both still life and symbol. So let’s take a walk, shall we? Pg. 3
APRIL 2013 Article | by Dr. Jason Schnieder
Is the Naturopathic Doctor (ND) you are about to visit or are receiving treatment from, a registered member of the College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta? Why is this important? Naturopathic medicine has been a regulated health profession with the Government of Alberta since July 25, 2012. Government regulation means that your Naturopathic Doctor (ND) must achieve and maintain a stringent, high level of education and training set out by the College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta (CNDA), ND licensing body. These parameters include an undergraduate degree and necessary prerequisite courses, graduation from a four year post-graduate program in Naturopathic medicine at one of the Council of Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME) accredited institutes, successful completion of the NPLEX (a rigorous set of internationally recognized licensing examinations) and ongoing continuing competency requirements (40 hours every two years) after being accepted and registered with the CNDA. Regulation of the Naturopathic profession and registration with the College ensures our members maintain the legal and professional standards for safe, ethical and quality health care. This means the public can be confident that the care they are receiving from a Naturopathic Doctor meets the standards set by the CNDA and required by the Government of Alberta. As the interest in natural and alternative forms of medicine grows, so does the number of unlicensed, unqualified practitioners. Without government regulation there are no legal mechanisms to ensure the practitioner you have chosen is knowledgeable or practices safely and ethically.
Pg. 4
Ask your doctor to provide proof they are a member of the CNDA or search the CNDA’s website (www.cnda.net) under ‘Find an ND’. The website is regularly updated with all currently regulated Naturopathic Doctors in Alberta.
What if my “Naturopathic Doctor” is not regulated? If your “ND” is not regulated, you are working with an unlicensed and non-qualified practitioner. The main goal of the Government of Alberta in regulating Naturopathic Doctors is for public safety. When you engage with these unlicensed individuals you are putting your health and life at great risk and danger. A Naturopathic Doctor undergoes an intensive four year post-graduate medical program with clinical education, amassing approximately 4500 hours in total. Many of these non-reputable individuals that call themselves NDs have taken either an internet or correspondence course to become so-called Naturopaths. To be clear, they are not and will never become registered Naturopathic Doctors regardless what they say or have hanging on their walls. These unlicensed individuals feel they can mislead others regarding their false credentials while putting unknowing persons seeking professional help at great jeopardy while gambling with their lives. The unlicensed practitioner’s actions speak volumes about how they regard other’s well-being and health. Licensed NDs have the privilege to be part of an individual’s health journey. We as Naturopathic Doctors hold this confided privilege with the utmost trust and as a great honour.
Medicine Hat and south-east Alberta’s ONLY Naturopathic Doctor is: Dr. Jason Schnieder

Every week I receive requests, suggestions and feedback about different recipes from clients, friends and family. What I love the most is that each of them are discoveries of what cleaner, healthier, tastier and yes, FUN-er versions of some favourites. It’s such a good feeling to know that someone out there is discovering how easy it is to improve their health just by making small changes in their nutrition and exercise choices. These recipes may contain allergens so be aware that they may not be suitable for some people. Without further adieu, enjoy!

These are ‘’Bad Azz’’ because the are next to ZZZero in fat content. They are decadent and yes, deeply, divinely chocolatey! Calories are also relatively low, depending on what type of sweetener used, and no icing of course! Preheat oven to 350 F 1/2 cup melted semi or bitter sweet, pure chocolate (NO IMITATIONS!) 1 cup 0% or fat free yogurt, UNFLAVOURED 1/2 cup pure cane sugar, unrefined/ unbleached OR Demerara brown sugar OR use sugar substitute like stevia 3/4 cup flour of your choice, can use half/half of your faves!: whole wheat, amaranth, almond, rice 1/2 cup pure cocoa powder 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/2 cup water Combine all ingredients in a large bowl until well blended. Incorporate nuts or seeds at this point if you like (about 1/2 cup). Pour into 8’’ x 8’’ no-stick pan or use parchment paper. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Test centre with toothpick. Cool completely before cutting into pieces.
Sunshine Chicken Boobs
In VERY large and deep stewing pot, add enough water to cover bottom with about 3 inches deep. Turn on high & add: 10 lbs fresh or nearly thawed skinless chicken breasts cut into chunks. 5 to 6 tbsp yellow Indian turmeric 2 to 3 tbsp red curry 1 to 2 tbsp ground cinnamon 1 to 2 tbsp Sriacha sauce OR 1 tbsp hot chillies (depending on your ability to withstand heat... add more or less) 2 tbsp dried onion flakes OR 1 cup fresh, finely diced white or yellow onion
1.
I prefer to use salt on the individual portions once cooked. I like to use Celtic Sea Salt instead of the white, processed table salt.
2. spices. Stew or boil on medium high for 30 minutes. Stir Stir chicken so that all pieces have been covered in once or twice. Keep covered.
3. 4.
Once cooked, drain excess liquid from chicken and allow to cool before measuring out portions. This makes a nice change from lemon pepper or tomato chicken boobs that I often make. Not only does the chicken have a nice SUNSHINE colour to it, most of the fat is drained it off. Clean, unsaturated, nonhydrogenated fats are not the enemy!
I’ve gotten a TON of very positive (complete with drooling sounds) feedback on this recipe. It has been used as the base for a very decadent birthday cake and as mini-loaves.
I love using the following spices because of their health benefits: TURMERIC: Cancer fighter, antiseptic, liver detoxifier, anti inflammatory agent, aids with fat metabolism and in fighting depression...and more!!! CINNAMON: Helps with regulating blood sugar, arthritis pain relief, fighting E.coli bacteria and lowering LDL cholesterol!!! CURRY: (Which is a actually a mixture of several Indian spices including Turmeric) has been shown to slow down the effects of Alzheimer’s and dementia!!! It contains powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. CHILI: High in vitamins A and C, contains capsaicin which is a natural effective treatment for sensory nerve fiber disorders, including pain associated with arthritis, psoriasis, and diabetic neuropathy and pain management. These recipes and more, can be found on our website, under ARCHIVES and RECIPES: www.flcnat.com

MEDICINE HAT INTERPRETIVE PROGRAM Police Point Park Nature Centre
A Salute To Spring Spring has finally arrived! This time of year is arguably one of the most beautiful. With baby animals, blooming flowers, and the sound of rain, it is hard not to enjoy it. When I imagine spring, one of the first thoughts that comes to mind are baby birds. By now, male robins will have claimed their territory and be competing for female attention. Soon after, mates will be chosen and eggs will be laid. As for the rain, some people don’t care for it, while others can’t get enough of it. Regardless, rain is a crucial part of kickstarting spring, and without it, spring just wouldn’t be the same. One of the nicest parts of spring is the chance to step outside and thaw out, under warm sunshine. Soon, we can all put our winter clothes away and start planning for shorts, t-shirts and flip flops! Spring has a way of creating a sense of reawakening, and tends to lift spirits. I for one can’t wait to start taking out my patio furniture and planting flowers in my garden. Gardening is a wonderful way to escape the pressures of the real world and enjoy life. For those who don’t necessarily have a green thumb, going for a bike ride or walking your dog is a great way to take in some fresh air and look for signs of spring. To further welcome spring, the government of Alberta has designated April 13th and 14th as the “Alberta Get Outdoors” weekend. This weekend was designed to encourage people to take the time to really appreciate how pleasant it is to be outside. In fact, many studies show that people who spend more time outside generally exercise more and feel better. In Medicine Hat, activities for everyone of all ages will be offered at Police Point Park on the 14th of April. Some of these activities include getting fitted for your bike, active challenges, and geocaching. Other community organizations will be actively taking part during this weekend as well. Don’t forget, if it is nice and sunny, sunscreen and sunglasses are a must. No matter where you decide to celebrate this weekend outdoors, it is sure to be a fun one! Spring birthdays are also coming up! An awesome way to spend a birthday would be to have one outside. One of the great things about outdoor parties is that you can keep them simple and still have tons of fun. For adventurous kids, throw an outdoor camping slumber party, complete with smores, hot dogs, and scary stories over a roaring fire. Other cool ways to have fun outside is to have a gardening party, or go on a treasure hunt! Plan activities or goodie bags with bug viewers, water guns, bubbles, or chalk to encourage kids to play outside and explore! These are great diversions from the ever growing need to play video games and watch television when it is beautiful outside. Call the Nature Centre in Police Point Park at (403)529-6225, where we offer birthday parties of all kinds. Spring is most definitely an interesting season, and it represents something different for everyone. Whether you enjoy it for gardening, biking, or the unpredictable weather, it is never boring. So get outside this spring and indulge your senses. Smell flowers, watch baby birds, feel the rain, and listen to storms filled with thunder and lightning. As Robin Williams says, “Spring is nature’s way of saying Let’s Party!” - Valerie Martins, Nature Interpreter Pg. 8
SELLERS IT’S TIME TO SPRING INTO ACTION! The shortage of available homes for sale in Medicine Hat has become a major trend preceding our busy spring house hunting season. We are highly affected by inventory levels in real estate. Currently Medicine Hat has approximately 250 single family homes listed, nearly 40% less than we had last year at this time. This shortage of inventory will certainly be frustrating for buyers this spring, but will bring great opportunity for those looking to sell their home. When inventory is low and the demand is there prices naturally increase. In fact, according to the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), monthly residential average prices in Medicine Hat are up by 6% from 2012. This upswing on residential home values could very well be attributed to this lack of available single family homes on the market. What does this mean for you? As home values rise, some homeowners will be freed from negative equity and have the opportunity to sell their home without losing money. Competing bids could even be a factor in the marketplace once again, especially at the entry-level price point. Properties priced at fair-market value will likely sell quickly for top dollar. This may be the time for some of you to take advantage of this seller’s market and get your house listed. For those of you in the market to buy a home don’t get discouraged, be patient and wait for that perfect property to make its way onto the market. The encouraging news is that we are in a very efficient market. That is evidenced by reduced market time and a small gap between listing prices and sold prices. The increase in consumer confidence in real estate, improved headlines, and record low interest rates creates the perfect combination for demand stimulating conditions. If you have questions regarding real estate in Medicine Hat or are interested in knowing what your homes market value is give me a call, text or email! AUTHOR SUCCESS STORIES
KATHLEEN D. MAILER
Paul Larsen Today I am interviewing author, Paul Larsen. When did you start writing? In April 2003, after you told me I was going to write a book. I laughed pretty hard when I heard that, but it turns out you were right.
What is the title of your book and what’s it about? Too Afraid to Live, Too Scared to Die is the title of the book. It is about the challenges I faced earlier in my life in regards to overcoming drug and alcohol abuse, and how I overcame the extreme adversity. It clearly displays my resistance to accepting a power greater than myself (God), and what was required to actually overcome that and accept it gratefully.
What made you write this book? I had hit a new low in my life. It was part of
Pg. 10
a healing process. It was something I had to get out and share with others. Even if it helped only one person in the entire world, that would justify its existence.
Who is the typical reader? Teens or adults attempting to overcome alcohol and drug abuse. It is a common story that drug addicts and alcoholics can understand. Anyone going through that adversity in their life can relate to the story to their own experiences, as they are very similar.
How are you marketing your book? Currently it is used on the Athabasca University Syllabus for the Practical Nursing Program. That is about all the marketing I have done. The book just seems to end up going where it is needed.
How can we get a copy? The only place you can get it at the moment is through my website at www. gzrecovery.com. The third edition of the book will be available there, and also on Amazon.ca, after it is complete.
What’s next for you? I am going to return to keynote speaking and helping others through
my experiences and share what I have learned. I am also releasing the third edition of the book, which will include a new chapter and several insertions to bring it up to date with some of the knowledge I have acquired over the last 10 years since the first edition was released. Thanks for taking the time to be with us today, Paul!

THE SUN SHINE IN By Leslie Cochrane, Loft 3 Design Company With the days getting longer and the temperatures getting warmer we know Spring will soon be upon us. Here are some tips to make your home feel fresh and clean and renewed!
Drew Barnes
Alberta MLA Cypress-Medicine Hat With the introduction of the provincial budget for the coming year, Premier Redford officially ended Alberta’s debt-free status and sentenced taxpayers to hundreds of millions of dollars in financing charges. This year alone, the government will rack up $3.5 billion in debt and vaporize $2 billion in savings to run a total $5.5 billion deficit. By the next election in 2016, the PC debt will amount to $17 billion. For the sixth year in a row, the government presented a deficit budget. You might wonder how Alberta, a province that has been debt free since 2004, can be in this fiscal mess. After all, being debtfree is a cherished accomplishment Albertans are proud of, because it represents our commitment to living within our means. Unfortunately, this government does not understand how to create responsible estimates for revenues. Its continued mismanagement of Alberta’s finances comes at a time when the economy is booming. Oil and gas activity is booming and corporate and personal income tax revenues have never been higher. Despite the economic success that is the envy of the rest of Canada, the 41-year-old PC government has managed to squander our resources and declare a debt-sentence on every Albertan. During the last election, the PC’s made billions of dollars worth of promises. And their budget for the coming year is full of these broken promises. They have backtracked on their commitment to build 50 new schools and renovate 70 more by 2016. They are spending far less on health care than promised; and there is still no plan to reduce management and executive perks
to better focus resources on front line workers. The list could go on. At the same time, this budget continues the government’s pattern of wasteful spending, with corporate welfare still a priority. Last year, this government granted $419,000 to Pepsi, and $4 million in grants to Pyramid Productions, a company that produces shows like “Inside Hollywood.” And let’s not forget the $2 billion corporate subsidy to Shell Canada, a multinational corporation. Is that really the best use of our tax dollars? I am also very concerned with the fact that from now on, every last dollar the government will spend on infrastructure projects will come from debt – with no clear plan on how it will be paid back. That means it is our children and grandchildren who will be forced to pay the bills this government is racking up. In the Wildrose Official Opposition, we have a plan to restore the Alberta Advantage. We released a Financial Recovery Plan to eliminate Alberta’s deficit in two years. Our plan starts at the top and would immediately reduce MLA pay, end corporate welfare, freeze wages and target the bloated bureaucracy for savings.
Getting rid of clutter and reorganizing is the easiest way to make your home feel refreshed. It’s like a breath of fresh air when you clean out all the unused and outdated items in your home. Taking that stack of magazines that has piled up on the end table to the recycling depot and bags of unworn clothes to goodwill will make you feel lighter and your space more airy. When you get down to the big spring cleaning consider leaving off draperies when you take them down to clean and wash your windows. It will allow for more natural light and bring the outdoors in. Open the windows and breathe the amazing spring aromas in! Take the heavy knit throw off the couch and replace it with a colourful linen one. Replace your neutral toss cushions with bright colours and lively patterns. Lightening up accessories and décor can have a huge impact. Put away the brown and black vases till fall and replace them with white or green and blue. Keep clear glass vases full of fresh flowers or fruit. This is an easy, inexpensive way to add a pop of colour to the room and remind you to reach for a healthy snack! Try adding colour by painting a feature wall in aqua or tangerine. If you don’t want to commit to paint, try some bamboo branches or cherry blossoms with something less permanent such as Wall Pops. Let spring in! If you have a great outdoor space don’t neglect it. Hang a simple spring inspired wreath on your door with a colourful welcome mat to greet all of your guests. Adding pops of colour with comfy outdoor cushions will make it a more appealing place to spend those sunny mornings. Hanging outdoor lanterns will allow you to linger outside a little later into the evenings. Incorporate a few of these simple spring decorating ideas into your home and before you know it summer will be here! Check out all of the great new spring items to suit all of your decorating needs at Loft 3 Design Company!
Budget 2013 sets Alberta down a path of indebtedness, hundreds of millions in punitive financing fees, and continuing economic mismanagement and incompetence. What Alberta needs is bold leadership with the moral fortitude to pay our bills, stay out of debt, and provide the high quality of services Albertans deserve. As your MLA, I look forward to hearing your comments on the budget, or any other matter. Please never hesitate to contact me with your comments and concerns. Pg. 11

On the Red Carpet GAINSBORO SPOTLIGHT
Twelve years ago someone told Gerard (Ged) Barchoft he couldn’t build a monster truck. That was the beginning. He sold his house in Ross Glenn, took the equity, and spent $130,000.00 putting together the first of Canada’s two Monster Truck racing teams. To replicate that first truck, you would spend closer to a quarter of a million dollars. Spare motors alone range in the $40,000.00 area. Even today, there remains only four such teams in the country. Ged met his partner in life, and racing, at a show and shine. Kathy Wills became the other half of the team piloting their second truck. She is Canada’s only fulltime female driver. These days her truck is used exclusively as a ride platform for charitable events. Painted a beautiful pink to compliment branding, they raise money for breast cancer research. www.crushingforthecure.com Both of these unique people spoke of the

excitement of driving 1500 horses over cars and buses performing at rallies across North America. Hence the name, “Sheer Insanity Monster Truck Racing Team.” The Gainsboro Spotlight caught up with Ged and Kathy at the Cypress Centre home show. A most unlikely collaboration occurred with the Medicine Hat Accommodation Association and the Chamber, who sponsored both trucks to appear at the show. They also purchased 500 Mattel hot wheels models of our local team’s truck, to be sold for ten dollars each; with 100% of the proceeds directed to Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Medicine Hat. The Accommodation Association deserves are huge thank-you for thinking out of the box, by offering support to this worthy cause. The team is always looking for sponsors big and small, to help finance the on going expense of maintaining these vehicles. The charitable aspect for Kathy’s truck has mushroomed with numerous requests for appearances. However one tire sells for $5,000.00, so it’s easy to understand the magnitude of the financial requirements. Corporate sponsors receive special appearances by the ride truck, to their company promotions and events. Significant sponsors are entertained at those corporate picnics by the crushing of cars. Kids like seeing trucks roll over vehicles far more than bouncy castles
and face painting. canopycanada.net
www.sheerinsanity@
Our Medicine Hat team has earned the right by point’s accumulation, to appear at the World Finals Monster Jam in Las Vegas. A minimum of $5000.00 in sponsorships are needed for them to attend. Would you fancy seeing your company logo on their truck on TV? It just might be the cheapest national advertising exposure your company will ever receive.

RULE OF MEN VS RULE OF LAW By Scott Stenbeck - Local divorce litigation lawyer While cleaning throughout the past week, I came across an article I had written ten years ago for the Lethbridge Herald. The piece was in response to criticism I recieved, as do many laywers, when dealing with unpopular civil cases. The issue was, “how can you defend someone you know is quilty?” Well, the first thing is if everyone thinks you are innocent, or everyone thinks you are right; you may not need a lawyer. It is usually when popular opinion or the machinery of the state are lined up against you that you most need legal representation the most. But also, the right to legal representation and due process goes to the core of what we believe as important in living in a free country. Now, to most people; being in a free country means living in a democracy. Well, that is true in part, but there must be more than just democracy. There has to be some type of constitution or set of rules that operate irrespective of the democracy, or what people may say they want at any given minute. Allow me to use an example. Three people catch a burglar coming out of a building. They capture him. They hold a vote as to if they should string him up right there. The three people vote “yes” to that proposal, the burglar votes “no”. Motion carried, they hang him on the spot. Now, that would be an example of bare democracy, majority rules. What should of course happen, is that one of the three says “look, we may believe he is guilty, but regardless of what the majority feels like it wants right now, we need to turn him over to the authorities so he can have a proper trial and the right to due process.” The difference between the above two scenarios is the difference between Rule of Men, and Rule of Law. And this difference is important beyond just the criminal law context. Take for example the G20 in Canada a couple years ago. Now, there were a variety of protestors out protesting things that I personally believe are silly, a lot of them got beat up and arrested for exercising their rights of free speech. I remember discussing this at the time with someone and he told me, “Who cares? They are in the minority”. In other words, since they did not hold the majority views, the majority is entitled to silence them, beat them up, and arrest them for being trouble makers and a pain in the behind. The problem with that is that a society has a tough time advancing, good ideas are at one time or another always held at first by the minority of people. We don’t have to go far back in history to think of a lot of examples. Again, if one holds an idea that is popular with the majority, they usually don’t need any protection for their rights. So how can I work for someone that “everyone knows is wrong”? Because, at the end of the day, I want to live in a society ruled by some basic and fundamental rules of due process, like the right to be able to redress grievances before the Courts, the right to legal representation, property rights, rights of free speech, and a host of other things that protect people that often are not on the popular side of the fleeting and capricious tide of public or political opinion. In the end, the loss of the sanctity of these rights and protections to society at large is far more dangerous than the negative that can be done in any one individual case by any individual citizen being afforded such protections. Registered Disability Savings Plan How can we ensure our disabled loved ones maintain long-term financial security throughout their living years? In 2008 our federal Government introduced the RDSP. Who Qualifies to use the RDSP? Any Canadian resident under age 60 eligible for the federal Disability Tax Credit can be named as beneficiary of an RDSP. Who sets up and runs the Plan? The Plan Holder can be the parent(s), the beneficiary (from age 18+), or other authorized representatives. How do Contributions work? Contributions can be made in lumps or periodic payments, but are not tax deductible. Investment earnings accrue on a tax-deferred basis. Contributions allowed until: y the year the beneficiary turns 59 y lifetime maximum contribution is $200,000 y the beneficiary no longer qualifies for the Disability Tax Credit, or y the beneficiary is no longer a resident of Canada for tax purposes How do the Grants work? y Canada Disability Savings Grant – Contributions may qualify for up to $3,500 CDSG per year – lifetime max $70,000 y Canada Disability Savings Bond – Lower income families may qualify for up to $1,000 CDSB per year – lifetime max $20,000 y Grants depend on household income until the Beneficiary reaches age 18. From Age 18 to 49, only the annual income of the beneficiary is considered in qualifying for grants When & How does the Beneficiary Benefit? Human Right’s Commissions and the Martian Invasion By Scott Cowan The Supreme Court of Canada in typical liberal fashion recently ruled on hate speech. They determined speech “likely to expose certain groups to hatred,” is banned. Also, the harm to vulnerable groups does not require proof of actual harm. Welcome to Orwell’s dream, Canadians now live in a world employing thought police. If anyone doesn’t like the speech you deliver, why bother engaging in debate. Just claim to be offended, and then off to the tribunal. Make sure as a defendant you bring tens of thousands in legal fees. By the way, your offended friend has no costs! So I’ll not be discussing any identifiable group. I’m offering a fictitious story about pink and green Martians (PGM’s.) Hundreds of years ago space ships arrived, carrying refugee Martians. Mars atmosphere had deteriorated to the point of no longer sustaining life. In a desperate attempt to survive, the last remaining Martians set out for Earth. After arriving, our ancestors weren’t kind to PGM’s. They were different and vulnerable. We enslaved the newcomers putting them to work in our fields. They left others in desperate conditions in far off tracks of land no one else wanted. They were dispersed across the globe. They suffered, and became addicted to the scraps offered by governments. Nobody allowed their children to marry these things considered less than people. They were pink and green for God’s sake. Eventually, good people rose up demanding government treat PGM’s with dignity. After generations passed, PGM’s were afforded the vote, and integrated into Canada. Most PGM’s became respectable members of society. Make no mistake, many Earthlings opposed Martians and discrimination existed. PGM’s formed unions and elected politicians. Soon after hundreds of years, many claimed the very people who freed them, “owed;” discrimination reparations. It mattered not the original PGM’s abused were long deceased, as were their offenders. Forget governments were still paying billions supporting PGM’s choosing to remain in land track squalor. Many PGM’s followed their Martian religion, pledging to conquer Earth by any means. PGM terrorism became rampant. People began looking differently at PGM’s, many feared them. As is human nature, some ignorant Earthlings in society began to “talk.” Keep in mind, they were pink and green and
easy to profile in airports. Many Earthlings were killed by PGM’s acting as suicide bombers or high-jackers. But times had changed! These “talkers,” were hauled before Human Rights Commissions and charged with hate crimes. PGM’s were “offended,” that Earthlings dared say anything about terrorist actions. Conveniently, thousands of Earthling deaths were ignored. PGM unionists demanded equality of employee numbers and pay, for the pink / green alliance workers. Truthfully, many PGM union members deemed their sole purpose in work places was organizing against management. They worked the bare minimum to get by, screaming discrimination if reprimanded. PGM’s learned these traits from leftist Earthlings they worked with daily. Most PGM’s secretly agreed with their bosses, but did not dare speak out in fear of retribution by rabid PGM’s. It became politically incorrect to point out the obvious where Martians were concerned. Earth politicians wanting PGM votes catered to them, no matter the cause or the crime. Conservatives simply lacked numbers to be re-elected. Martians became embolden. They demanded ceremonial religious weapons be carried by PGM’s at all times in schools or the work place. Guns were confiscated from all “Earthers,” excluding military and police. PGM women were not to be educated, or allowed to show any green skin; and only the barest of pink. If they were caught dating or marrying Earthlings, they were ostracized. A death curse was put on them, to be carried out by any “loyal” PGM. Martian justice was to be applied to PGM’s, superseding laws the rest of Canadians followed. PGM legislators demanded their children be allowed to pray in school, but not Earth children. It offended PGM’s to see “Earthers” pray. Christmas displays were also banned, because they excluded PGM’s.
Green Alliance meant death for them, or family members in strict land tract communities. PGM priests proposed constitutional amendments, supported by Liberal / NDP politicians that PGM’s could not be racist, due to the hundreds of years of discrimination they had endured. By then there were so many PGM voters “Earther laws,” were struck in favor of ever increasing PGM legislation. Select “Earther socialists” were allowed to remain in office. New laws were passed making reparation payments mandatory by all “Earther businesses.” PGM union auditors determined if businesses faltering under the burden of reparation taxes appeared solvent. It was agreed the rich 1% could not be allowed to default taking the futures and pensions of PGM workers down with them. Obviously the needs of the many were greater than the failure of one rich, greedy, now unsuccessful entrepreneur. Those businesses were turned over to selected PGM’s. Previous owners would be re-educated, from entry level positions in the company. They needed to accept, they didn’t build the business themselves, the employees were just as responsible for the success. Earth women it was decided, must cover their bodies. Not because of sexual exploitation, but because their sight “offended,” PGM’s. By this time, there was no credible conservative Earth vote or individuals left capable of standing against the mandates PGM’s put forward. The Pink/Green Alliance declared thank-you statues must be placed in every community, to commemorate Human Rights Commissions. This, as they were being dismantled…it was believed by PGM’s that they had successfully done their jobs. Their mandate was concluded and funding was withdrawn.
Female Martian’s were not to be given drivers licenses, or go out in public unescorted. Infractions met with beatings or ritual killings. PGM men were allowed numerous wives. It was their job to populate the Earth with good Martians. The police ignored PGM infractions in fear of the racist label, or being brought before tribunals themselves. Sadly, PGM people who loved their new planet were at a loss to change any of the Martian extremists. Speaking out against the Pink/
