MAINTENANCE MECHANICS

Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for performing preventative maintenance on all facility machines as well as repairing any machines to minimize downtime. Mechanics are also challenged with performing eﬃcient changeovers as our production facilities shift to various customer orders and SKUs.

• Analyzes mechanical and operational problems on assigned equipment and plans for and takes corrective action. • Makes necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality. • Reviews production schedule and when equipment is not scheduled for manufacturing, changes over equipment to new sizes or performs scheduled maintenance. • Tests equipment to check operation; clears jams and sets aside product for inspection and rework; tries out equipment after repairs, changeovers or extended downtime.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Strong technical proﬁciency • Exp. with hydraulics, pneumatics, production equipment is essential not cars or oil rigs etc. • Exp. in a production / manufacturing environment • Must be able to read, write and speak English • Willingness to work overtime, oﬀ-shifts • Prior exp. in welding, machining and fabricating preferred • Must be able to work on-call as needed • Exp. with blow molding or plastic mold injection is a strong plus

GUIDE TO STARTING A

CARDIOLOGY CAREER

Cardiologists practice internal medicine focusing on the heart and blood vessels. You can practice noninvasive medicine such as diagnosing cardiovascular issues through tracers or electrocardiogram. If you choose invasive cardiology, you will employ diagnosis techniques such as catheters, stents and balloons. You will not be expected to perform surgery unless you go on to become a thoracic or cardiovascular surgeon. Be sure you are committed to practicing medicine before starting down the path toward a cardiology career. You will face at least eight years of school and long hours once you begin working.

Educational Requirements The path to becoming a cardiologist is long and challenging. You must start by obtaining an undergraduate degree and passing the 10+2 exam, which emphasizes physics, chemistry and biology. The next step is to take the MCAT and score high enough to get into the medical school of your choice. The length of your educational program depends on the number of specialty classes you choose. A degree in cardiology is recommended if you intend to eventually work as a cardiologist. Your time in medical school will usually include at least a one-year internship at a local hospital.

Board Certification You must pass the U.S Medical License Examination or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical License Exam before you will be permitted to practice medicine. Certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine is not required at all hospitals, but can improve your overall chances of finding a job. In some facilities, you may be able to get a job without certification as long as you are eligible to apply and just have not taken the exams. Board certification is good for 10 years as long as you satisfy the American Board of Internal Medicineâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s continuing education program. You can also obtain sub-specialized certifications in areas such as interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease and internal medicine.

Salary and Job Outlook According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for non-invasive cardiologists in May 2012 was $316,000. The number of available jobs is expected to increase by 24 percent between 2010 and 2020 because of the aging population. Cardiology nursing jobs are projected to grow by 26 percent during the same span of time. The top salary depends on the specialty you choose. For example, cardiothoracic surgeons can earn over $400,000 per year. A cardiology career opens many job opportunities in the healthcare field. Once you are fully licensed to practice medicine, you can choose from a variety of potential employers, such as the cardiology department or thoracic surgery department in a hospital, the cardiac care unit in a medical clinic or a nursing home. If you prefer to work for yourself, you can open your own medical practice or partner with other doctors in the same office. RADIOLOGIC & MRI Technologists Radiologic technologists, also known as radiographers, perform diagnostic imaging examinations, such as x rays, on patients. MRI technologists operate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners to create diagnostic images.

DUTIES

Radiologic and MRI technologists typically do the following: • Adjust and maintain imaging equipment • Precisely follow orders from physicians on what areas of the body to image • Prepare patients for procedures, including taking a medical history and answering questions about the procedure • Protect the patient by shielding exposed areas that do not need to be imaged • Position the patient and the equipment in order to get the correct image • Operate the computerized equipment to take the images • Work with physicians to evaluate the images and to determine whether additional images need to be taken • Keep detailed patient records Healthcare professionals use many types of equipment to diagnose patients. Radiologic technologists specialize in x-ray and computed tomography (CT) imaging. Some radiologic technologists prepare a mixture for the patient to drink that allows soft tissue to be viewed on the images that the radiologist reviews. Radiologic technologists might also specialize in mammography. Mammographers use low-dose x-ray systems to produce images of the breast. Technologists may be certified in multiple specialties. MRI technologists specialize in magnetic resonance imaging scanners. They inject patients with contrast dyes so that the images will show up on the scanner. The scanners use magnetic fields in combination with the contrast agent to produce images that a physician can use to diagnose medical problems. Healthcare professionals who specialize in other diagnostic equipment include nuclear medicine technologists and diagnostic medical sonographers, and cardiovascular technologists and technicians, including vascular technologists.

EDUCATION

Coursework includes anatomy, pathology, patient care, radiation physics and protection, and image evaluation. The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredits programs in radiography. Completing an accredited program is required for licensure in some states. High school students who are interested in radiologic or MRI technology should take courses that focus on math and science, such as anatomy, biology, chemistry, physiology, and physics.

WORK EXPERIENCE IN A RELATED OCCUPATION

MRI technologists typically have less than 5 years of work experience as radiologic technologists.

I find that most people have made up some stories about what is and is not possible for them. The roadblocks appear too large to overcome.

You just need help figuring out what you want to do quickly, once that is done, you can move forward on your own.

A good coach can help you see past the roadblocks so that you can create a career and life that truly fits for you.

Certainly there is some overlap between counseling and coaching. Bottom line, career coaching is often a more in-depth approach than career counseling so if you are looking for a quick fix, it may not be the best fit for you. One solution might be to take an interim job that pays the bills and allows you the time to invest in creating what is right for you in the long term.

You are successful but want more passion and fulfillment in your career and are not sure what that would look like. You want to do what you are passionate about and make a good living but don’t really know if that is possible. You want a great career and a great life too – you don’t want to have to sacrifice one for the other. You know what you ideally want to do but have some fears or doubts about your ability to make it happen. You want a better understanding of your natural talents and how to best use them to have more satisfaction and earn good money.

Career coaching takes more of a whole life approach so that you can create the career that best fits for the life you desire to live.
