TWENTY-FIVE WAYS TO MAKE REWARD PROGRAMS MORE FUN AND EFFECTIVE 1. Give employees “time off” to volunteer for their favorite cause. 2. Appoint an employee to do nothing but acknowledge other staff for the day. 3. Give certificates employees can redeem for a “some- thing of their choice” (a day off, extra coaching, extra lunch break, shift preference). 4. Give employees a day to job shadow any job they choose. 5. Create plaques with funny sayings on them. 6. Create “Service Pride Awards” that specifically acknowledge employees for going the extra mile for the team good. 7. Profile a staff member in an article. 8. Have employees write an article about their accomplishment and how they achieved it, then publish it. 9. Have managers “valet park” employees’ cars. 10. Give employees a day to visit another department and report back to their co-workers about the experience.
11. Leave a voicemail saying thank you or send an email. (Thank you, I noticed...) 12. Have managers bake cookies or make pizza or pancakes for staff. 13. Sketch a ladder climbing towards a goal where employee accomplishments push the marker up towards the goal. 14. Hand out ribbons or pins saying, “I helped our team reach our goals.” 15. Have a “Treasure Chest,” where employees select gift from items such as coffee mugs, pen sets and movie tickets. 16. Give employees fun things to hand out to other staff. 17. Surprise an employee with their favorite coffee and muffin at a coaching session. 18. Send a “Thank you” bouquet of flowers to an employee’s spouse. 19. Give employees the opportunity to brag about their accomplishments on a brag bulletin board, in a newsletter or during a meeting. 20. Recognize the difficult aspects of the job that the staff deals with all the time. 21. Give a group bonus and empower a team to decide what to do with the money.
22. Stand up for employees verbally in front of other staff or clients. 23. Design a “most creative way to serve a customer” award. 24. Let an employee be the “Manager on Duty” for a couple of hours. 25. Take employees to a stand-up comedy club or hire stand-up comedian.
