Description
Teacher's Planning Sheet for Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom blm/ela/g/successp9.5 TBLM Learning happens best in a context that gives meaning to knowledge, values, and skills learning outcomes. Experiences that take students outside the classroom can be highly motivating and complement classroom-based learning. Accessing community resources provides knowledge and understanding of the broader environment and allows students to learn from the resources and expertise available in the community at large. Students also gain practical experience when they are involved in planning the purpose and logistics of the field trip. As well, teachers gain valuable insights into their students as they observe their interactions outside the classroom. Engage students in planning a field trip based on primary inquiry questions or the "W" in a KWL strategy. Teachers are encouraged to prepare students for field trips through pre-teaching or the use of anticipation guides. Many field-trip sites provide pre-trip materials for classroom use. Engage in a debriefing process after the field trip to identify further questions or misconceptions, to apply new learnings, as well as to plan follow-up activities.
