The Weave - An Investigation Into the Intersection of Craft and 3D Printing

Intersecting Threads Where bricks from two or more threads meet, to avoid problematic flat surfaces, the intersecting area between them has to be treated somehow. We experimented with a few different surfaces before finally settling, in the production of bricks that make the prototype of the Weave, for one involving copying whilst continuously making smaller the intersection curve towards the center of the intersection. Every other curve is then moved slightly, and a surface is finally generated by the lines. The result is something similar to the wavy surface made by the plane used to treat the flat backside of each brick, but since the intersecting areas of two or more threads might be confined to a rather small area, another technique had to be used to avoid cutting away pieces of the bricks meant to be left untouched.
