“A Christian liberal arts
education prepares students to serve God throughout their lives. They gain a deeper appreciation of the good things in life and a deeper concern to address the brokenness in life. They are trained to be excellent in their chosen profession, but they are also educated to speak more clearly, to write more effectively, to understand complex issues, to care more deeply.” —DR. CHIP POLLARD President of JBU since July 2004 Ph.D. in English from The University of Virginia in 1999 Master’s Degree in English from Oxford in 1990 Law Degree from Harvard Law School in 1988 Bachelor’s in English from Wheaton College in 1985
What is a liberal arts education? “Liberal” means “free” Other descriptions include broad and general. “Liberal” stands in contrast to “narrow.”
“Arts” refers to academic areas or disciplines Things like writing, history, politics, math, art, culture, biology, philosophy and so on.
It prepares students to think, work and live well Rather than exclusively studying their major, students are prepared to apply that major in the greater context of society and, in the case of JBU, God’s redemptive work in the world. 5
Get a top-notch education At JBU, you’ll get a highly-ranked, hands-on education that prepares you for a successful career and a life of purpose.

Film
Film is the universal cultural expression of our day. You’ll use the latest technology as you develop your artistic expression and ability to convey a strong narrative. You can have equipment in your hands as early as your first semester. As you master the basics, you’ll work with upperclassmen on a short film in preparation for your senior film project.
Graphic Design
From design process to logo design to corporate identity, great graphic design goes deeper than just the “look and feel.” Ultimately it’s about solving a problem for your client and meeting the needs of their audience. At JBU, we’ll equip you with both the design techniques and communication skills you need to collaborate with clients to develop unique, effective visual solutions.
