Chemistry Olympiad success

Earlier this term, Sixth Form Chemistry students took part in the 2022 Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad.

This event is a gruelling twohour examination, and a true cerebral workout in which pupils are challenged at a level of chemical knowledge and understanding well beyond the boundaries of the A-level syllabus.

We left the competition victorious with two Silver Awards and a Bronze Award, won by Lower Sixth students Josh H (L6PWM), Sahit S (L6PWM) and Varun V (L6JCC)! At the best of times, it is no mean feat to win these rarely attained awards – let alone against such fierce competition from other schools’ Upper Sixth pupils. Congratulations to our three contenders for their truly remarkable performances! n

Entire year group achieve CREST Awards

We are very proud of the Year 8 cohort, who have all secured Bronze CREST Awards. CREST is the British Science Association’s scheme for STEAM project work that inspires young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers. n

Junior Mathematical Challenge

On Wednesday 27 April, our Year 7 and 8 pupils sat the UK Mathematics Trust’s Junior Mathematical Challenge.

Over 50% of the pupils achieved a gold, silver or bronze certificate, placing them in top percentiles of mathematicians in the country. Rishab S (8BG), Alexander S (8RSP) and Rishi T (8CJC) for achieving gold certificate!

At the time of writing, Amaroo has also been invited to complete the prestigious Mathematics Olympiad and Ally is to complete the Junior Kangaroo, which is a subsequent round of the challenge. n
