Why Sports are Important Living a life of persistence and the ultimate level of discipline as you learn how to become a great contributor and build life long relationships The Obsession I love me some Me!! But the problem with that is, there’s no ‘I’ in Team. I love sports. I love watching them. I love talking about sports, and I love playing sports. If I had to choose a sport to play, it would be Basketball. Like many people my age, I grew up a huge Kobe Bryant fan. When growing up, I took after Kobe because of his work ethic. This is why sports are important. In the Beginning When I was younger I played football, basketball, and I even played the drums. Of all of these, I played the drums more than anything. Now, I bet you’re saying: “playing the drums is not a sport!” Well, when you’re on a team of 25 percussionists, it definitely becomes a team effort. From my experience, sports have helped me build life skills and it’s taught me lessons that I still live by today. Perseverance 1/3

In sports, there is always a winner and a loser. It’s competitive out there and I don’t think there has ever been a team to win them all. Sports teaches you how to accept your loses, yet, learn from them and bounce back for the next performance. It teaches you to have humility, and understand that there is always room to grow and get better. It’s a two-way street. Whenever in competition, sports brings awareness to you that there are other people out there training just as hard as you are to reach a common goal, to win. This also brings to your attention that respect from others is earned, not given. The Gun Show Playing sports builds confidence. Whenever you get in a jam outside of your craft, you’ll often fall back into competition mode and turn up the intensity a little more. Being in sports helps you with holding yourself to a higher level of responsibility; making sure that you complete all task. The Gift When I was in drumline, I wanted to be one of the best. However, the drumline was only going to be as good as our weakest player. So, sports taught me to help those lower classmen who were once where I was when I joined. It teaches that contribution is important to building a solid community. Life’s Lessions No one like losing, right? Well, sports teach you to except things that you may not agree with. For example: what if there was a bad call, or a penalty that causes your team to lose the game at the very end. Sports teaches you to pay attention to details and never lose your cool over the small things. Conclusion Lastly, I think sports teaches you how important it is to have great relationships with people. Even after 10 years of being away from my friends in drumline, we still have that same connection and bond as we did when we went out into battle together. This is why sports are important, because it links you to people in sharing life’s greatest moments. Well, I’m going to sign off for now but I’ll be back later with more great content.
