CANNOT THIS... (Protection & Children Priority Day) Well before the first warm rays Pierce through the eastern horizon Ushering yet another dawn on earth, And, before the drowsy eyes open Scroll newspaper for world news; Our hearts pierce with a deep pain And eyes become misty with emotion. We notice bad news about child abuse It may be physical, sexual or emotional It may be exploitation or medical neglect Or it may be verbal or violent treatment And dire threat of crime and prostitution; That apart, torn betwixt wars and conflicts; Orphaned, they become prey to intimidation They are forced to brutal torture and rape, And sucked to death in the vortex of violence, Alas ! Who’s there to enforce child safety laws? And make sure their rights are respected? Cannot this civilized world protect them? Cannot the society take-up this humane cause?
