Holiday Itinerary
Monday We depart during the morning and with a suitable stop for lunch en-route we arrive at our hotel, on the outskirts of Newquay, in time for dinner and our 4-night stay. Tuesday This morning we visit Padstow, a charming working fishing port surrounded by glorious sandy beaches that has seen its popularity explode over recent years and has become one the county’s most cosmopolitan corners thanks to the celebrity chefs, including most notably Rick Stein, who have set up their award-winning restaurants alongside Padstow’s independent shops, pubs and pasty shops. It may be small but exploring the picture-postcard warren of narrow medieval lanes sloping down to the bustling harbour is a must on any trip to Cornwall and you cannot leave Padstow without getting a taste of a traditional Cornish pasty. After some time to look around and enjoy lunch we return to Newquay where the remainder of the day will be at leisure. Wednesday A scenic drive west to Penzance travelling via Marazion with views of St Michael’s Mount. In the afternoon continue to the fascinating Geevor Tin Mine Museum to discover the history of mining in Cornwall. It was Geevor where the BBC came for advice about filming Poldark on the nearby coastline. Thursday We visit the historic village of Charlestown, an amazing unspoiled example of a late Georgian working port, constructed in response to the growth of the local mining industry. Charlestown is a popular filming location with credits including the BBC’s hugely successful Poldark TV series and there are often square rigger ships in the harbour. This afternoon we travel to the fishing village of Mevagissey with its eclectic mix of shops, craft workshops, art galleries, cafés, pubs and restaurants. Friday We travel home with a convenient lunch stop en-route.

The pretty fishing town of Looe is a truly delightful and picturesque place, separated into two towns of East and West Looe by the River Looe flowing out to sea. The small harbour is still a busy fishing port and watching the hustle and bustle as the fishermen return home with their catch is a wonderful way to appreciate the town.

Holiday Itinerary
Saturday A morning departure to Cornwall arriving in the afternoon for our 5-night stay. Sunday Today we visit Mount Edgcumbe – a stunning Tudor home of the Earls of Mount Edgcumbe. The house is located on a peninsula that extends into the River Tamar, giving Edgcumbe and the surrounding grounds some spectacular views over Plymouth Sound, one of England’s finest natural harbours. Set in Grade I Cornish Gardens within 865 acres of Country Park which includes the National Camellia Collection. Monday Today we visit Port Isaac which is a traditional fishing village with a vibrant local community in north Cornwall and home to the TV series Doc Martin starring Martin Clunes. It is a truly picturesque village with steep, narrow winding streets lined with whitewashed cottages that head down to the harbour. We will then travel on to Padstow – a colourful and ancient town with old, crooked streets that slope down to the working harbour, whose produce has been made famous by Rick Stein’s television series and acclaimed Seafood Restaurant. Tuesday A morning excursion to Polperro, a coastal village that was once a thriving centre for the area’s smuggling activity. Today, in cellars where furtive smugglers once dodged the customs men’s muskets, you can see displays of local crafts and fishermen’s smocks. We return for an afternoon at leisure in Looe. Wednesday The impressive Eden Project is our destination today. Built as a global garden telling the story of man’s developing relationship with plants, the project creates three of the world’s climatic zones – our own temperate climate outside and inside, plus giant ‘covered biome’ conservatories for the humid and warm regions. Thursday After breakfast we depart on our homeward journey to the Midlands.
