to the buildings and grounds of an original World War Two Prisoner of War camp, which has been developed into a unique museum depicting life in wartime Britain.

Holiday Itinerary

Monday Departing Henley-in-Arden we enjoy a leisurely drive to North Yorkshire, arriving late afternoon at the Burn Hall Hotel for our 4-night stay. Tuesday An extended half day excursion to the Eden Camp Museum. Our visit will take you back to wartime Britain, experiencing the sights, sounds and even the smells of life on the home front and the front line, all housed within 35 huts built by Italian prisoners of war in 1942. You will have the opportunity to have lunch at the WinStan’s Bunker Cafe and Officers’ Mess which is the ideal place to refresh yourselves during our visit. On-site you can also visit up to 25 Military Vehicles and Hardware as well as a 1940’s garage that houses a 1937 Austin Big 7 motorcar and replica BMW R75 motorcycle. Wednesday Into the heart of the North York Moors today we head to the ancient market town of Pickering where we join the North York Moors Railway for a nostalgic journey across the wild moorlands to the picturesque harbour town and tourist centre of Whitby. Here, there is time to explore the narrow streets, perhaps buy some Whitby jet – the ‘black-amber of the north’ and have ‘proper’ fish and chips for lunch. For the more active, perhaps you can climb the famous steps up to the ruins of Whitby Abbey – the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ which stands guard, high above the town. Thursday A full day excursion to the historic city of York. Upon arrival, we include a 60-minute open-top bus tour, so relax whilst your guide shows you all the amazing sights around York’s historic centre. In the afternoon free time for sightseeing and shopping, but there is so much to see you will have to be selective. The majestic Minster, the old Roman walls, the Shambles, the Jorvik Centre and the National Railway Museum are all worth considering. Friday Departing after breakfast we commence our journey homeward, making a suitable stop for lunch en-route.
